Full replay from the Wembley Arena as China's Lin Dan defeats Korea's Lee Hyun Il to advance to the final of the men's badminton singles event at the London 2012 Olympic Games (3 August 2012).
Badminton made its debut as a demonstration sport at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. It was not until the 1992 Games in Barcelona that it was officially included on the Olympic programme, with men's and women's singles and doubles events. The mixed doubles event made its debut in 1996 at the Atlanta Olympic Games. Since then, the number of events has remained unchanged.

Lee Hyun-il, two time Olympic semi-finalist, was no pushover. Just shows how untouchable prime Lin Dan was.

@@sebribo1873 Not to take any credit away from Axelsen, Lin Dan was alrdy past his prime by 2016. Lin Dan was still a quality player, but nowhere near the days when he reigned as Super Dan.

@@sebribo1873 it doesn’t deny the fact that Axelsen’s prime doesn’t even come close to Lin Dan’s prime. Not just about results, Lin Dan and Lee Chong Wei’s skill value as a player is something we’ll never see anymore, they’re on a whole different league than others

From 2008-2012, it didn’t matter who you were, if you were matched against lcw or Lin Dan, it’s a death sentence.
It’s not just their peaks but also their consistency and longevity. Between these two legends, they won 130 super series titles (this doesn’t include titles like Asian games and they didn’t have as many super series tournaments as now).

What? Chen Jin lost because he was outplayed by Lee Hyun Il. Check out the video. Lee Hyun Il earned his win. Besides, if Chen Jin wins out, then Chen Jin will play against Lin Dan. This way, China would be guaranteed 2 medals.
Honestly, Chen Jin is not even in the same class as the current Lin Dan. Even if Lin Dan played him in semi's, it wouldn't be super tough of a match.
So no, China did not rig the singles at all.
