    yes it is, you can also use weird fx like the line 6 fm4, a ring modulator or equalisers. just to make a special sound

    6:55 yeah I caught that too. "it gives you a nice irritating sound for ballads.". Haha. No argument here.

    The true bypass sold it for me. I've had a lot of digitech effects through the years, but I hate the DSP bypass, which is why I quit using them. Great Demonstration.

    I'm in a progressive rock/ alternative band and we are looking for pedals which will give us strange sounds in our songs/ solos, do you think this pedal is good for that?

    I probably should have bought this instead of the Whammy 4. Love the sub-octave feature in drop tune section.

    Hi! Thanks for the video! The best I've found so far about this pedal.
    Just 1 question: The numbers shown on the right (drop down/up) are SEMI-TONES and not full TONES? Am I right?
    Which means, if you're tuned standard (EADGBE) and detune 1 step down on the pedal, then it tunes you into Eb-Ab-Db-Gb-Bb-Eb, right? That's what I hear when you play (and about the 5 on Van Halen), but I just want to make sure...
    Thanks again!

    • @kevinmcguinness1113
      @kevinmcguinness1113 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Michael - yes, half steps/semi-tones. There's another video here on YT that states it's in whole steps - that's wrong.

    When I bought a Digitech Drop Pedal, I sent it back. Just because I experimented a noticeable latency, which to me was a little bit annoying! Does that pedal have the same issue?

    • @ralfjung
      @ralfjung  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The DT has according to the engineers the same processor but it is cleaner in tracking and to my ears also quicker. But - I am afraid you will still feel a latency. Problem is that it is the only product out there that does Pitchshifts and Whammy effects

    It truly is a great pedal and a great demo video. Congratulations! Your English is also very good, don't feel awkward about fumbling the word "sixth!" Also, your German accent is very metal; good on ya! ;)

    So with the Whammy 5 there's no way to use it as a drop tune (or up tune) pedal without getting a harmony or whammy effect?

    • @musefan12345
      @musefan12345 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      There is. Just set it to -1 octave (or however far you want to drop tune) and adjust the treadle to the correct position. Granted, it takes a little bit longer to set up and make sure it's perfectly in tune, but it still works. I have a whammy 4 but it works the same in a whammy 5.

    • @musefan12345
      @musefan12345 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Alternatively the drop tune function on the whammy 4 drops you down a full tone (going on memory here) so you can use this function and set the treadle half way.

  • @hienvu1714
    @hienvu1714 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I really appreciate your video!
    I'm interested in the Whammy DT mostly for the +/- tuning and have read many bad reviews about problems with tracking or unnatural guitar sound when on clean channel. I understand the problem when you can hear the straight guitar sound mixed with the processed sound in a different key but besides that, does the processed sound OK by itself when you go + or - half or whole step on the clean electric or acoustic guitar? Thank you!

    • @ralfjung
      @ralfjung  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you just need to detune your guitar you do not need the Whammy DT. There is a product which is called Drop Tune by Digitech which festures just the +/- part of the Whammy DT. Same processor but smaller pedal…check that out. I believe Petteri Sariola uses it for his acoustical work

    • @hienvu1714
      @hienvu1714 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ralfjung thank you for your reply. I believe the Drop only transpose down and not up;; the Ricochet also transposed but skips Eb. Yes, the DT is huge, heavy and I probably won't use most of the more insane whammy functions but the chorus effect is nice, some of the basic whammy functions can come in handy and the ability to transpose both up and down is great as long as they sound natural on clean or acoustic guitar.

  • @0013619511
    @0013619511 ปีที่แล้ว

    how do you set pedal for open G tuning

    • @ralfjung
      @ralfjung  ปีที่แล้ว

      The Whammy is not an intelligent pitch shifter which detects intervalls. Although you can change i.g between major and minor third determined through the pedal position, but it works the same for every tuning. So there is no particular setting or trick or preset for an open tuning….

      +ibrahim alattas This might be a bit late to tell you but perhaps it just needed to be calibrated? If you don't use it for a while, you have to recalibrate it. It's in the manual.

    What does true bypass mean?

    • @CKC411
      @CKC411 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      7 years too late, but I think it means effect is 100% bypassed, meaning it is as if the signal chains pure straight through as if the pedal being bypassed never existed. So no wonky signal interference or artifacts sneaking into or remaining in spite of allegedly "bypassing" the signal.

    I was totally wondering the same thing! I betcha it can, as it can Whammy the DT section! It would be great to kill two birds with one stone and take care of my needs for an octave and whammy effect with one pedal!
