Welcome back to ProGuitarShop and ToneReport.com. Today we're rallying around the Ricochet, from DigiTech. Taking the same guts from DigiTech's game-changing Whammy pedal, the Ricochet removes the foot pedal, allowing space-strapped guitarists to experience the pitch-perfect Whammy experience in a much smaller enclosure. To replicate the foot pedal in real time, the Whammy Ricochet relies on a momentary switch, with controls that dictate the rise and fall times of the shift, to simulate a foot sweeping the effect. Players can use this momentary setting to replicate the use of a whammy bar, instantly switch to a bass guitar setting or to explore the outer limits of what a guitar can sound like. The momentary option can be changed to latching for players who have relied upon the Whammy's crystalline pitch shifting technology to play in different pitches. This is a boon for players who also use loopers, as it allows them to create intricate harmonies on the fly. Plus, holding the footswitch gives you acces to two Whammy mode: Classic and Chord for original computer glitch or smooth polyphonic tracking. A LED ladder occupies the left side of the Ricochet, for exact measurement of where your tone sits in the pitch shift, allowing visual players to make precision adjustments mid-shift. Best of all, since the Ricochet contains the same pitch-shifting algorithm as its bigger brother, the transition to the smaller box is seamless.

Only thing I would change is moving the knobs a bit further away from the bypass switch. They’re a bit close to each other and might cause some of the knobs to get kicked accidentally, especially mid song, when running on adrenaline on stage. Notice how his shoe gets very close, hovering over the the “range” and “pitch” knobs. A minor thing, but would bug me when playing on a dark stage. Something I don’t want to think about when playing live.

That was going to be my question: How does the unit compare to the Electro-Harmonix Pitch Fork, sound, and tracking-wise. Are they both equally responsive? I've been wanting the Pitch Fork, for a while, but, so far, prefer that, over this unit, because of the flexibility of use with an expression pedal (which I already own).

If you want a Ricochet or PitchFork with expression pedal, but smaller than a Whammy, try an EHX Slammi Plus. And I like to use the PitchFork to transpose. But I think there's some uniqueness to this pedal that's overlooked by some. I'm curious to try this out the next time I'm at a music store. Especially on bass. It seems like a pedal you have to experience, rather than listen to.

megaman13able I can't agree at all. For example, if you hear the original "like a stone" solo, you can hear that the pitch climb is sometimes slower, what makes the solo more expressive. Using a Whammy is not just pushing up and down like an idiot. Believe me, for the real Whammy addicts, this model is a piece of garbage

Awesome pedal, but should have an optional exp pedal input. Kind of defeats the purpose of getting rid of the pedal, but it would be nice to be able to use either a smaller controller or separate the pedal and controller in order to better fit boards and such. The Pitch Fork doesn't track as well, but I would definitely go with the Pitch Fork just because it has the expression and momentary latching switch.
