A note for everyone When creating or coverting a texture to vtf
Don't forget to edit your VMT file.
Replace the "LightmappedGeneric" with "VertexLitGeneric"
correct!

How exactly can I do this with *FBX* files? Crowbar seems to have no way of decompiling them as nothing from a model that is FBX appears when I attempt to do so. I read somewhere that Blender Source Tools can covert them to "SMD or DMX" files but I clearly don't know how.

For everyone who want to create a texture for their models
To tackle with "Grab a programmer!" error
First replace "LightmappedGeneric" with"VertixLitGeneric"
The "$basetexture"'s folder path should be written that should be approriate with the smd's texture path & name
Example:
"VertexLitGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "models\zhaohuang\aov\hero\elsu\thesoaringfalcon\elsu\body.vtf"
}
Template:
"VertexLitGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "your\modelstexturename"
}

yes it does work but it's only for sfm to blender and back as i didn't teach you guys how to assign textures and apply them after porting.

use sourceio master addon for blender. it directly imports source models and doesn't require crowbar

@@Spring_Studios_SFM you can still port them into sfm without crowbar. it's porting into blender that needed it. also if you're having issues use blender 3.6.5 for the addons to work

if you have a mdl file you'll need to decompile it using crowbar to create smd files

the latest version of blender (4.0) has not been optimized for the addons. downgrade blender back to version 3.6 LTS
Don't mean to be a bother, but whenever I port my model to SFM the shaders for the textures aren't there. How would you also port shaders or is that not possible? I'm completely new to shaders and don't fully understand them.
this tutorial is meant for sfm to blender and back and thus it didn't explain how to port the textures. contact me on discord and i'll explain how to do it.

i don't know but from what little i understand the hammer is the best software for porting maps
how to port Blender to XPS / XNALara ? any tips at all ? the script thing is outdated and dont work, i heard something about maya
if the script doesn't work you need to downgrade blender to like 3.6

make sure that it's updated to the latest version, check file integrity if you're using steam. and reinstall the addons in preference
It says chrome blocked the download of Blender Source Tools and it's an insecure file? Do I download it still? Still safe?
i checked the files again and i was able to download it safely. not sure why but i myself am using the tool on a weekly bases.

@@mausersfm generally speaking dmx format is better. it supports more engine features and is of higher quality
it gives me a long-ass complicated error message with the message

The model wont become a dmx file, it just freezes blender
two things. one you should use blender 3.6. two make sure to delete the collections before exporting

crowbar isn't working, is there any other program for decompiling sfm models?
source io is a blender addon that you can use. it imports the models directly, it doesn't require decompiling.
note: it only works on blender 3.6

the blender 4.1 is not suitable for the addons shown in this video. use the 3.6 instead.

there's another addon for blender called 'SourceIO-master'. you can port sfm models directly to the blender using that addon :D
