The song is a tribute to the loved ones we have lost. Tuomas wrote this after his father died. The whole album 'Yesterwynde' deals with the concept of time. 'Wynde' can be see as wind (sailing the ocean of life) but also as winding a clock (the watch in the snow).
What's truly wonderful about this song is that, for those of us who have been with Nightwish for decades, we can read between the lines of how truly deep this song goes. This song makes so many connections to many of their previous songs in this album, as well as past albums. Then there's the easter eggs that Nightwish fans just recognize. It's like we almost KNOW the exact language Tuomas speaks, and I do not mean Finnish, or English. It's an emotion. This song is about our parents, it's about our children, it's about our decades in the sun, it's about our predestination... our endlessness in the ancient unseen stream of life. An incomplete weave...
The song is about the loss of those who have brought light to our lives, who have held the lantern to light us on our way. Floor sings with all the emotion and artistry that she is so eminently capable of. This, IMO, is the gem in a solid album.
Any song is fitting for Floor, because of her BRILLIANT TALENT she can sing any genre of music that is written for her by Tuomas. This song was written by Tuomas not long after his father died
My Song of 2024. And in this year find Heilung and Eivor. What awesome Music. But Lanternlight, ❤i loss my Mum 4 y ago.And this Sing, when Tuomas and Floor are together. For me, it is a Masterpiece
Lovely reaction. Final song from the final album of the trilogy. It feels to me like someone saying goodbye to family and friends as their life comes to the end. Loads of beautiful imagery in the lyrics of seeing the end, of reminding those we love that we will always be present, of lamenting the unfinished things we leave behind (as is always the case), and then walking "to the trees". Since Tyomas is famous for writing lyrics for multiple interpretations I could also see this song where the narrator is death personified, much like the way the lyrics in Music were. A third way I see it is that the lyrics aren't necessarily about a person but are instead a metaphor for humanity and our walk through the eons of our existence which would fit well with the themes of the album trilogy. For me the line "I am you who climbed off your back" gives me Decades in the Sun vibes and of course "To the meadows I go" is tapping into the same symbolism and meaning as Meadows of Heaven. Heartachingly beautiful song and a perfect bookend to the album and trilogy.
As the other commenter said, YW is about time. As this is the album closer, how fitting is it (in every respect) to end this timeline with Tuomas' father singing from the great beyond, via Floor. Notice the doubling of Floor's face throughout the video. Might be just me but I'm reminded there of Janus, the Roman god with the two faces looking into the past/future simultaneously, representing transition & the passage of time. Perhaps in this context even the transition of being in and out of time. Just a wild guess, but it would perfectly fit the overall message/vibe.

Floor recorded all her parts to this record at her home 6 weeks after giving birth to her second child.
The song was written by Tuomas, so Floor as an empath IS tuomas here.
Very insightful first impressions and interpretations of the song - thank you!
🤗🍒🤘🏻😘 Great Job as always and what an amazing song huh 🎶🎼You say that Floor's voice is so good for this song but her voice is great above all!!
