- Gameplay footage of NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC running in MAME 0.209. It was officially promoted to working in MAME 0.223 where the digital inputs were also fixed. There is a resolution dip switch that can be set to low to speed it up. This is considered the final arcade game in the NBA Jam series as Midway lost the rights to the name.

lmfao i was waiting on this for the longest and still managed to miss it by almost two years. i saw an arcade trailer with those special effects i didn't see on my playstation and knew i had to get it
There wasn't a big hoopla when it became playable. If I recall it wasn't listed as playable for some time after I made this video.
@@DarthMarino I'm surprised at that u figure as soon as we got the green light for it to be playable everybody would jump at the chance to get it going
Good news! MAME 0.223 just recently came out and this game has been officially promoted to working thanks to Ted Green!
Yeah, he fixed the digital inputs a few weeks back.

I get all green to play on MAME , but an error tells me I lack the CHD file. Do you know what I’m doing wrong?

FYI the new mame .234 made big NBA Showtime improvements and eliminates the slowdowns that occur at specific points of the game, such as the transition just before tipoff.
Yeah, I was playing it this past weekend on medium res. Works great. I was thinking of doing a video showing some of the games benefiting from it but in the meantime I did the CART Fury video which works great now.
@@DarthMarino awesome, I heard gauntlet legends improved, too. Unfortunately, Golden Tee Fore Complete did not. Amy other ones you noticed?
@@cor094 I was disappointed with Golden Tee as well. It's basically perfect on low res so I'll just stick with that for now. Gauntlet is weird to me. I don't know if this is only on Dark Legacy, but I get some nasty screen tearing that seems to be built into the emulation. I have a weird workaround on low res but the new changes didn't fix that for me. I can now play Blitz on medium res as well. Rush 2049 seems better. Not sure if Rush the Rock is part of this. Road Burners seems better.

One day before I turn 50 gonna build me a PC that can run the tri fecta of NBA showtime , NFL blitz series and Golden tee complete in medium resolution no audio issues lol !!
Those three games drive me batty.
I can play them on Dreamcast in HD just something different about the arcade version. Especially NBa showtime with the crowd, the sound, the on fire effects the off back board passes, crowd density etc.
Where do I find working roms for mame .209
The game has had several improvements since this video including running faster so it's best to run it in the latest MAME.

Hey darthmarino, where did you purchase your controller setup to play NBA Showtime? I'm thinking about getting one myself after setting up MAME on my laptop & making sure the games are playable for it.
That's just an X-Arcade controller. It's a pretty common standalone controller in this hobby.

Did you have any problems with the game speed or something?
Aaron Switzer Kinda but I made it run better by lowering the resolution in the dip switch settings, enabled auto frameskip and turned bilinear filtering off, I have a Core i7 3.40 GHz
@@boxMAN29 oh I should turn bilnear filtering off too that could help with the game i did the auto frame skip and it didn't work well might had some audio skips while doing that
Aaron Switzer yes it’s recommended to turn it off and to access dip switch settings, press tab on your keyboard when the game is running
I’m hearing double speak by the announcer. Kind of an echo. Is your audio clear on yours? Any tips?
It sounds like it does in the video. It's probably struggling to stay at full speed. Press F11 and you'll see the speed at the top corner. Don't forget to change the resolution dip switch to Low Res to see if it helps with the speed. It's a very demanding game.
Ay btw how did you get it to not have frame dips when on fire?
Gtx 1080 i7 6700k @4.5 ghz. Still get frame dips whether on fire or at logo splashes. Nothing game changing though. And not during gameplay but still, curious
I set the resolution dip switch to low, turned off bilinear filtering and set frame skip to auto.
@@DarthMarino whats weird is putting it to best resolution has it running full. And bilinear filtering on has no affect as well. 120hz screen was what was slowing it down. As well as syncing is to monitor.
Also forgot on the original hardware being on fire slowed the game down as well lol.

@@j.d.prophecy43 I figured something kind of strange in regards to the speed. If I start the game up and jump right into the game, the slowdown is much worse than what you see in the video. If I let the attract mode run for a little bit, it's much better like it is here.

i7-7700k. You will need a very good CPU to run this.

This is amazing. I used to have a Showtime/Blitz cabinet and ended up selling about a year ago.
What type of CPU is needed for this?
I have an i7-7700K and it's pretty decent though it still slows down at times, especially during the tip off.
@@DarthMarino thanks for the quick reply. The motherboard I have now can support up to an i7 3770k which I'm assuming won't get the job done. I have an i5 in there now and it stutters like crazy.
I'm likely going to sell what I have and upgrade. What motherboard and CPU do you recommend? I'm wondering if the slow downs you're seeing will improve in Mame updates.
@@savj14 I'm no expert on chips and motherboards. Certainly the fastest single core speed Intel is your best bet. AMD's won't get you the same performance even if the GHz are the same. Did you switch the resolution dip switch to low?

Not really. Maybe an occasional stutter but nothing worth noting.

Whats the best revision of the NBA showtime series to get for Mame ? Theres NBA showtime NBA on NBC revision 2.0, Showtime revision 2.1, and revision 3.0 which would you recommend ? Its going to run on a PS3/Modded
@@rebranded1248 They are all pretty much the same from what I can tell. I play the "Gold" version which is the combo with NFL Blitz 2000 Gold which was the final release in the arcade series. I think they just updated the rosters.

I’m running 2.1 and it is nowhere near this smooth, can you share where to get 3.0? I’m running a GTX 1050ti and it even on low res is very buggy with slowdowns and God awful sound
I'm pretty sure the new laptop i'm getting that is i7-9750h and has a nvidia gtx 1660ti graphics card should play showtime at decent speed also that shot at 2:36 was straight luck
You'll probably have to overclock it. The computer gets lucky quite often with those shots.

@@aaronswitzer2423 My processor is 4.2 GHz out of the box. It says it can be overclocked to 4.5 but I never have.

@@aaronswitzer2423 Overclocking scares me because you have to worry about overheating. People who do it usually have fancy cooling systems. Liquid cooled, etc.

I really stink at the NBA Jam games. I usually get knocked over before I can get to half-court :-)
I think this one is a little more accessible. The greatly increased shooting accuracy makes it a little mindless but I still think it's a ton of fun.

@@djm2373 I have a GeForce GTX 1060 6G OCV1 6GB GDDR5. The higher the speed, the more games you can run. Historically, Intel chips would work much better than AMD at the same speed however I have heard good things about Ryzen.

No. They are no different than any MAME game with a CHD.

@@eric9385 You should have the ROM in your ROM folder and have a folder for the CHD. That folder should be named the same thing as the ROM.

The only thing that might help is the change the resolution dip switch to low. If I recall, this the Gold version which is only part of the Sportsstation with NFL Blitz Gold.
