- NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC is a descendant of the original NBA Jam, and is created by some of the key team members.
The game follows in the footsteps of NFL Blitz, featuring the option to save personal records and a cheat code system operated by pressing a sequence of buttons.
It also features unlockable characters, including NBA team mascots, and the "On-Fire" option that defines Midway's sports games.
Players are able to perform special moves such as the alley-oop, the spin move, and the double dunk. The game also features a Create-a-Player mode that allows custom players to have tweaked abilities by winning matches.

The fact that this is the only game to have the official NBA on NBC license is both a blessing and a curse.

NBA Showtime: NBA on NBC is the final arcade release in the NBA Jam series of titles developed and released by Midway for Midway Vegas Hardware in 2000, NBA Showtime features a roster of players that was up-to-date for the time (1999 season) with 160 players while providing a full 3D experience to the NBA Jam style of play. You can also improve on player stats and enjoy superstar moves.
The NBA on NBC jingle is still the best the league has ever had. And this game is so GOATED.
This game style needs to be brought back. Such a fun departure from 2k.
2k sucks. NBA street 1 and 2 are the best basketball games ever imo. I want that fantasy arcade style gameplay if I'm gonna play a basketball videogame, not some supposedly realistic shit so you can pretend like you know basketball.
In general, arcade style sports games need to come back, Fifa Street 2 (only that one btw), NFL Blitz. Heck I'm waiting for arcade 1up to release this game in a mini cabinet

This is still to me, the best basketball game ever created and a good contender for all time greatest sports game. Midway completely nailed that 3D transition.

Now this game must be 25 years old even since Midway defunct. EA Sports takes over this game with NFL Blitz showing why I love using all their excellent powerups and no CPU advantage catching up.

The Gold Edition is a step up from the console ports. For example, Pippen is still on the Rockets in the console ports. The Gold Edition he's on the Blazers(Best team in the game with 3/4 of the roster available imo) @2:39

I had this game on console. While i always thought it was just as good as NBA jam i always kinda wish it would have been a 5-on-5 style game. But being the nba jam style i understand why it wasn't
It's weird how they followed this up with NBA Hoopz (at least on Dreamcast) which should have been better but somehow completely broke it by making it 3 on 3. Sold it almost as soon as I got it, which never happened before.
