In the States you miss a months rent and the Police turn up and throw you out, there is a national database for bad tenants, once your on that, no more rental properties for you, UK is so soft, no wonder so many just take the piss.

In my last property I lived in (housing association) me and my daughter was nearly killed by a nightmare tenant living above us, as well as other threats and banging on my door with a hammer and other weapons. He did criminal damage to his own flat and the landlords never pressed charges, police couldn't do anything and also wouldn't. He got away with setting fire to the flat I was moved and he was put back in. He threatened to behead a woman on the street and he was finally evicted then. We are soft, we need to toughen up. Last I heard, he's in another property

That's not true. In the US, we have to go trough an eviction process and an eviction goes on your credit report which will result in it being very difficult to rent again.

@@ek2137 sounds a bit familiar to here, but if you claim you did antisocial behaviour because of drugs, alcohol and mental health issues, they get rehoused...at least my landlord association did, for it to start again to someone else. I hope all landlords aren't that soft. Should only be rehoused imo after something like that after rehabilitation

With a lot of people ended up homeless , living in gutter these peopLe have roofs over their heads , have warm comfy beds to fight the cold so in terms of ' give and take ' law all they need to do is to pay rent on time and heLp the owner to take care of the properties it's that simpLe YET their brainless heads can't seem to grasp that idea 🥴 .
Back in my earLy teen years , in the country where i live my mum and i moved a lot . Rent one house to another in few different locations and towns , in between 6 years alone we've moved about 3 times at that time i used to wonder why my mum made so much efforts to keep the house intact like no drawings on the walls , no picture frames hanging either cuz she doesn't want the to leave marks , if there is a garden or plantations surround it we'd do some gardening once a week , why should we do all that i mean it's someone else's house snd we pay the rent but she says
" Paying the rent isn't your only responsibility u need to take care of it too bcuz well u rent it , don't u ? If anyone was to borrow something from u i'm sure u want them to return it to u exactly the way it was before ,so it's the same thing with renting a house cuz u basically borrow it from them " and we never had any issues with any landlords of the houses where we rent , i carried that advice till today in my adulthood and one of the owners of a flat i used to rent when i was 23 and worked outside of town even try to persuade me to stay Longer few weeks in advance before i was moving out saying that she Liked the way i took good care of it , i missed her homemade cookies though .

In England squatting in private residential property became a criminal offence in about 2012 so squatters often turn to commercial properties instead as on the one with the solicitor helping get them squatters out. It is appalling people don't pay rent. Many landlords earn less than their tenants even and have to pay their own mortgage. They should start by removing the iphones some of these tenants have to sell them for say £800 towards £11,000 of rent owed. Then move to their jewellery and car if they own one and other possessions, but instead they seem to disappear and never pay.
