Kaboom! The sound that engine will make 20 miles after the power train warranty expires.
You ever heard of the leaning tower of power? You can run a slant 6 without any oil for a couple hours. Don’t count dodge out.
@@86_Bullnose You can’t compare the old inline sixes to these new engines with turbos. Not even close.
Well it's going to be in trucks SUVs and jeeps for decades to come so I hope Dodge did their due diligence when it came to R&D
@@conan6267 Pretty sure Carlos fired everyone in research & development and quality control.
Just traded a ‘19 for a ‘23 so I could have a newer Hemi to last me many more years.
How did you make out on your 19? I’m in the same situation and can’t decide what I’m going to do 🤔
@@superfanbill89 part of the reason I traded was what they gave me. I got 27k on trade in August. Big Horn long box 55k miles. Paid 29.5k in 2019. Used lots were still pretty bare and the new lot was filling back up so timing was great. They sold my 19 for 32k three days later.
Ya and you’re the reason they think they can keep charging though prices. 19 is old? Ha
@@shiningstaer I didn’t ever say 19 was old. I said I wanted a newer Hemi. I just happened to buy at the right time and had the opportunity to upgrade at a great time. You’re telling me you wouldn’t do the same? Ha
Great truck!! How about we stop buying new vehicles until they lower prices. New vehicle prices are out of control.
Can’t beat an I6. Perfectly balanced, lots of torques, super realiable. Look at the old fords with the 300 i6 most are still on the road. BMW I6 are pulling over 300,000 miles ( everything else fails, engines are solid lol) Cummins 5.9 and 6.7, super reliable, dodges old slant 6, super reliable, jeeps 4.0 i6 super reliable. I’ve been waiting years for one of the Big 3 to bring back an I6 with all the modern tech, RAM has done it. Now I just need to wait 20 years to be able to afford a used one lol
I drove the new 25 Ram with this hurricane emfi and it felt very responsive and quick but the truck also felt very light and the sound wasn't as deep as I'm used to on the v8 5.7 Hemi. The interior and quality seemed a bit off to me compared to my 21 Laramie so I don't know
Chevy has offered the 3.0l duramax for a few years now and they seem to be a solid motor so far. Looking forward to seeing how these hurricane engines hold up.
No one will bag on an i6 engine as a xesign. It's the fact that there's no replacement for displacement when it comes to towing.
Now that’s a valuable information im more optimistic and excited for the RHO !
you're so right. straight 6's are my favorite. noise is better than a v6 in my opinion. I had the 335i and I loved that engine. you're spot on about everything else failing though lol
with all these manufactures going turbo I sticking to the old school V8 .
Good for you, I'm sticking with the steam enegine
Something tells me the turbo will put too much stress on this gasoline engine.
I don't care for over-stressed small=displacement engines.
@@claiborneeastjr4129
What is your source for asserting those engine are over-stressed?
You people act like your fireman will shrink without those two extra cylinders.

RAM Trucks .
Bring back the Legend.
Bring back the Hemi V8
The V8 is the best engine for a RAM . And no infladet 3l
My Suggestion
RAM 1500 = 6.4L V8 450 HP
RAM 2500/3500 = 6.2l compressor V8 530 HP
RAM TRX with 6.2 V8 750 HP
develop a new V8 to replace the old ones
3500
I mean I’m gonna miss the v8s too, but it does cost a lot of time and money to develop a motor
This engine seems very promising to me. Its difficult to let the hemi go but people had difficulty letting the 318 and 360 go. After a few mfg hiccups, I hope this thing will be great.
Any word on mileage??
It "seems" promising. As you said it.
But only time will tell if this design is rugged/resistant enough for daily use.
We know Stellantis for something else than reliability.
My 318 is still going 40 years later I would say strong but it never really was lol
One of the biggest reasons people buy Ram trucks is for the Hemi. It’s a well proven, reliable workhorse of an engine. The Hurricane may be a good engine, but it will have to prove itself like the Hemi has. I’m not against innovation at all, but I wouldn’t touch one of these until they’ve been around for at least a couple of years, so there’s time to see if it’s going to be reliable.
Yeah hemi takes a licken and keeps on ticken 😮I mean still running
2024 yes sir
I6 is one of the best engine designs out there, the problem is that high specific output and turbocharging usually makes for a less reliable engine. Understressed, large displacement mills last longer with less maintenance, that's just a mechanical truth.
I'm sure it will be a great engine, I'm just not sure it will be a reliable one. But I have no qualms about the I6 architecture, I6s are great.
YES - Understressed, large displacement mills last longer with less maintenance, that's just a mechanical truth.
When you make everything forged in an engine it will take more boost without more wear. The internals can probably go up to 800-900 hp, like bmw b58. If you have low-mid hp on crazy internals it's bulletproof
They're making lotus hand grenade engines in trucks now 😂
I had the inline 6 on my 09' 335i and it was an amazing engine. Never had a problem with the engine itself. It was all the other parts that were failing on me. Water pump, electrical work, battery problems. But the engine itself was awesome.
@@jjpark1989 n54 is pretty amazing a lot of bmw i6 are amazing, but unless it's a big displacement diesel, it's not for towing.
Looks like I'll be buying used trucks for awhile.
I'll be running my 4th gen into the ground
why because you’re so obsessed with having 2 extra cylinders 🤦🏻♂️
@zBPS no, the I6 is a fine engine - the new trucks are not going to be cheap even base, so I'll be hanging on to my Hemi until I'm in the market for newer. Even so I just prefer the body style of mine so I will wait to see what happens to the Classic in the future and also looking forward to seeing what's next for Heavy Duty. Overall really liking the lineup, but trucks are getting pricey.
@@PeteValence Ah got it, I see what you mean
Why what’s wrong with turbo charging
If RAM pokes one in a regular cab I'll continue to be a customer!
regular cab and 2 wheel drive and make it look old-school with some fattie tires on the rear.
Single cab short bed 4x4. Something to compete against the Ford with the coyote for an off the assembly line race truck
Wish it had port injection as well to keep the valves clean.
If you DRIVE your car every now and then and get the RPMs up the valves won't get coated with gunk
And a dipstick for the oil.
I just took delivery of a brand new ram rebel (company truck) and drove from Tampa, FL to Atlanta, GA, average mpg 18.1. I did 75 mph, all interstate, on cruise. My past trucks could of pulled this trip while averaging 21-22 mpg in same conditions with v8 and well over 100k on the odometer.
Kudos to yall for doing something different love the inline 6.always make great power with boost.Just appease your regular crowd and put the v8 as an option in everything.
This is cool but I am concerned about the longevity of a turbo engine.
You’d be lucky to get over 100k miles on one without any serious and expensive issues occurring. Much less 200k miles. Especially in any full sized vehicle. The Hellcat can get 400k-500k miles relatively easily if not beat on super hard all the time and routine maintenance is done. They are pretty much bulletproof motors.

I would love to see the dislikes counter on this video
if it can last as long as a 5.7 im all for it
Agreed but there's no way
Basically a S58. The power bump is great, but if you are concerned about horsepower you might as well get an electric truck. You can’t make up for the rumble of the iconic hemi.
You expect an I6 to sound like a v8? 🤦🏾♂️😂
The hemi had soooo many reliability issues. Our fleet at work is all hemis and they get this ticking knocking noise which becomes a death sentence for it. We had probably 25% of our fleet engines replaced because of this and they are between 30k-75k when it happens. Pricey repair and takes a while which is a big inconvenience. Something to do with the lifter being out of place idk exactly but I wouldn’t own one.
@@evanl889the hemi tick exists in all models and generations you can get a brand new hemi and withing a few weeks it will start ticking
@evanl889 the MDS is they problem if the stop using that in them it wouldn't be a problem I have a 05 without it and have not had the hemi tick.
Imagine how dope it would be if they used the new engine design principles on 8 cylinders
How about putting a twin turbo on the Hemi instead? Or at least give us the option to still be able to buy the Hemis!!!
Good thing I have my hemi challenger and my cummins rams 5.9 and 6.7 so I'm set for a good 20 years or so
And about one million miles a piece
Cummins is an I6 too
The HO engine will probably be available only in the top trims.
its from the rebel up but standard on the limiteds
Not available on the Rebel
It's amazing what they're getting out of 2 L inline fours and something like this which is absolutely mind-boggling! I love technology
Well if they had to replace the v8 with any other engine I think the I6 is the best option. Great platform
3l is a little disappointing though. 4.0 would’ve been awesome barra competitor
Agreed but in the world market 3.0 L is a cap.
@@user-rg4wp7xw9n It has a turbo. That is called replacement for displacement.
@@TheWeavingBagel it has 2 turbos that are pushing 22psi onto the (aluminum) block. It will not be as reliable as the hemi, they should have made the displacement a little larger and used lower pressure turbo/s
@@user-rg4wp7xw9n Good point. I'm assuming the displacement and turbo setup is for efficiency reasons. I have seen some reliable engines that have cast aluminum blocks and forged aluminum internals.
On a different note, after seeing what the S58 and B58 were capable of, I am interested to see what the tuning world will find of this engine.
Every inline 6 has the same firing order....lol
Just like Toyotas new Twin Turbo V6 in the Tundra's and Lexus' that have main bearing issue, this motor may have issues. There is no replacement for displacement. I6 may be different design, but asking a smaller motor to do the work of a V8 is iffy. I do hope the Hurricane does what they say it will do, particularly for reliability and longevity.
When dodge released the demon they said no replacement for displacement. Now they say more horse power per litter.
Will miss the Hemi but it is evolution in will miss the sound of the Hemi! Period
All of a sudden I love my 5.7
I had one of the DOHC Neons when I was younger and that engine could take a serious thrashing! I wondered back then what it might be like with 2 more cylinders inline. Now I know 😊. I bet a N/A version of this could outlast the classic SLANT 6 but I cant see those turbos lasting that long.
This will be the dumbest mistake. I predict the quality won't be that great either. New design will likely have issues. You guys never really got the HEMI or the ECO diesel totally perfected, so why should we trust this?
It's been out for 2 years already and I haven't heard of issues
I6 is wayyyyy wayyy more reliable than the ecodiesel, only reliabilty issues youll have possibly have in the long run , this applies to turbo engines are the turbos itself
But how many have really sold if it's only in the Wagoneer which is like $100k@@RAM-KINGOFTRUCKS
It should be yes, but this is aluminum and under high pressure turbo and probably GDI and not all that big at 3.0L I'll still wait and see@@TommGunzz
@chickenfarm09 sold 37,000 last year in 22 this year don't no yet but lots out there and no issues with motor..👌👍
Until you show me that engine can consistently last 250k plus miles without major repair, count me out. I bought a 2014 hemi brand new, all maintenance on time, got 320k on it now and it’s just now starting to use oil
Toyota Tundra's biggest selling asset was the reliability of their 5.7 V8. Once Toyota changed over to small displacement 6 cyl turbo motors their reliability went to pot. Fifth generation RAM's 5.7 V8 backed by their 8 speed transmission has proven to be a great and reliable combo. I sincerely hope they don't suffer the same adverse outcome that Toyota fell into with these small displacement turbo engines in a half ton pickup. I will keep my 2019 RAM Rebel 5.7 for awhile and let everybody else be the guinea pig owner of these turbo 6 motors.
Do we still get broken manifold bolts standard?
Tick tick the studs broke
The unbroken manifold bolts is a $295 option…
I hope it has more than 4 head bolts/cylinder and that somebody smarter than the guys at Ford and Audi ran the timing chains!! Lots of potential if it was done right!
Underrated comment. Heck even Toyota can't build a reliable turbocharged truck engine. Those 2022+ Tundra engines are eating crank bearings and pistons faster than an ecodiesel LOL
I did some digging and I can't recall how many head bolts but I can tell you it's a Closed Deck Block which means it's going to have much less
issues with head gaskets than all of these open deck blocks.
This engine is made by Chrysler corp it's a stellantis engine
@@fxrsniper1 No one said otherwise.
Is that usable HP and Torque or peak HP and Torque?
Likely peak
Turbo engine torque typically peaks at a much lower RPM, so more “usable” vs. an engine that has to be revved to the moon for peak power.
Be good to see what rpm peak hp and torque are made
When they will start coming to showrooms, I am getting a 2 years old, cert, low miles Ram 1500, Limited, HEMI. Overall, the best block out there. Perfect, NOPE, but had done well on American roads. If the new block will be reliable as the HEMI, Dodge/Jeep will do very well and sales will be fantastic.
Yes it has more power.. but it doesn't have that V8 rumble that we all love..
No rumble is a fumble for RAM.
You mean the lifter tick?
I smell 0W-5 oil, spun bearings, parts shortages, and blown engines before 80,000 miles.
This is definitely going to drive up the price of used trucks, lovely.
No v8 option=death wish
I usually buy a new Ram every 4 years or so. I find lately they are offering less for more money these days... I have a 2021 built to serve edition right now, I am really not too sure I want to part with it. This is by far my favorite over many years, so unless the 2025 really impresses me I will stick with what I got...
I have a feeling that the in-line six will not disappoint!
Good move! Don’t get a Hurricane Ram. That HO Hurricane has a very complicated cooling system that is fragile, and the SO Hurricane is barely more powerful than the 5.7. If you want a new Ram, I’d get a 2024 Hemi. Trucks should sound like trucks…not Honda Civics!!
@@applianceman6009 lol trucks have had inline/ slant 6s in them for over 50 years. The ford barra is the most bulletproof engine ford ever made. The slant six from dodge was in production for over 25 years and is legendary. U don’t know what you’re talking about.
@@isaacwykes636 They weren’t turbocharged, so they did not need an advanced liquid cooling system. This is a completely exotic and new inline 6 design. The old 4.0 Chrysler I6, which was developed by American Motors prior to the Chrysler Jeep buyout due to bankruptcy, was one of the most bulletproof engines I have ever seen. I wonder if the cam/lifter issue will carry over...But then again they did build the slant 6 which was a great one
Such a shame, Ford is going to eat your lunch in the muscle car segment with the 5.0L V8. Fords route of a more advanced DOHC high compression V8 architecture w/ dual PFDI fuel injection is much more fitting to the American market. Aren’t you also paying Ford to use the 5.0 Coyotes patented plasma cylinder lining process for this “Hurricane”? I’ll take a V8 thanks.
Hope it's better than the Turbomax(4 cyl) in the GM's I rented a sierra and it didn't seem right driving . Lifted the hood and ughhhh
Not a turbo fan, reliability should be #1 not power. Give me a non turbo version with 300hp and 350tq.The old 300ci ford sixes were an example of reliability, still powering many UPS trucks to this day!
At the end of the day it's all about charging more for less manufacturing costs. Raw displacement will always win over technology. The inline six seems interesting but doesn't rub me the right way in a Ram.
No thanks. I want a Hellcat. Not a squeaky toy.
More HP and torque, but at what RPM? Not at all sold on a 3.0L twin turbo for a light truck application.
6100 rpm is max power
Yeah, but turbo engine torque peak is typically at a lower rpm than NA engine. My twin turbo V8 puts out max torque at 1800 rpm & stays there thru 4K rpm. My old Hemi torque peaked north of 3500 rpm.
At least its not V6.
Holy Jesus lol wow that’s gonna be lit 😆
This had to be the test vehicle they used for the hurricane
How about a 5 liter version twin charged with a single turbo and supercharger? With around 700-900 horsepower.
Bring back the ACTUAL RAMCHARGER!
This seems like a really good option for the Wrangler/Gladiator, Grand Cherokee and maybe the Chargers (which it will be offered on next year) Not 100% sure about Truck use. IF they can make them not burst into flame like the Ecodiesel, might be a good option for half tons
Hard-working engines fail sooner.
In my opinion I think an inline 6 motor is the best configuration… gas or diesel…. To be fair, my 5.7 hemi has 290,000 on it and I’ve only done spark plugs and oil changes… if this motor can be just as reliable I would buy one…. ( chances are with twin turbos probably won’t be… maybe a single turbo would be good )
YES
GREAT JOB TIM!
Kinda sad Ram. Trucks aren't BMWs.
It will be years before this is reliable and lasts 300k miles. Have a 2020 hemi and will try for a late 2024 if possible.
At that power level to displacement it will NEVER last 300K miles.
@jfdb59 yeah just like the ecoboosts, Ford dealer told me they are built to last 5 years or 150k miles. Planned obsolescence
They're comparing horsepower per litter to the Demon 170 because they think you're dumb
Don't you wish you had a V8? 💜💜💜
Why not twin turbo the Hemi. Now thats way more horses than the I-6
And way less mpg so they have to pay millions in fines. Mpg must go up and emissions have to go down to stay in business.
Yeah dude. Just twin turbo it 🤦🏻♂️
Would you like em sticking out of the fenders or hood ? Only so much real estate and cost comes to mind.
A twin turbo HeMi wouldn’t pass emissions that’s not how that works,,, and plus they would get worse mpg than the I6… stop tryna find solutions we already got one
It's rammin time
Please give it dual injection so (hopefully) the intake valves get cleaned from buildup. I'm still excited as long as it holds up reliably.
I6 has potential if manufacturered right. Can dodge deliver?
I ain't buying this I'll buy used v8's and rebuild if needed
I dont think the V8 should be replaced but I would like to see these as options too

Inline 6 cranks are so much easier to balance. Should last longer. Hopefully they put a higher volume oil pump to save the lifters and cam at idling unlike the current hemi.

It's probably about the same as the HEMI.
I'm just stuck on the sound, the power, and the simplicity of a V8. Sorry dude's
An inline 6 is simpler... only one cylinder head...
I like it. What’s the MPG’s?
An slt ram here in Canada starts at $65k. I wonder what these will start at.
Twin turbo inline 6 this could be a great motor.
Ironically, the turbos are better for towing applications and high altitude driving they don’t lose horsepower like naturally aspirated engines do well in high altitude and the Turbo work best while Towing
What is the sound like though?
