    I do love that RamCharger. They are going the Gas-Electric vehicle route and I’m a huge nerd of the way Diesel-Electric trains work. You still get the awesome torque and instant response of an electric powertrain but the ease, fast, range and reliability of an engine powering it.

    • @StressLessCamping
      @StressLessCamping ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I'm with you 100%. A locomotive is just an electric vehicle with its own generator and this makes sense in a pickup as well. And for we RVers having a generator and the torque from a dead stop is yet another huge plus.

      It’s a matter of time before they go diesel/electric in HD pickups I think. Right now we have the HO Powerjoke at 500/1200, can you imagine a diesel/electric? If they did it right, we’re talking north of 1500ft-lbs and over 1000 mile range probably. A towing SOB

    Wow, the RAMCharger is the PHEV / BEV truck owners like me need. This solution is PERFECT. I do own a PHEV SUV and 95% of the time, the battery capacity is more than enough to cover daily use and for the long WE hauls with a trailer, the onboard ICE generator will top off the batteries on the way. This is not for range anxiety owners, this is for users that need to use their trucks as a daily drive and tow large trailers on the WE where a pure BEV is just not the right tool for the job. Well done RAM. I just can't wait to trade in my Rebel for this wonder, if the pricing is reasonable 😀

    @glacius331 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I'm not expecting it to be cheap, but it won't be TRX prices either. The battery is relatively small compared to other truck offerings (which is fine in this configuration). The engine driving the generator is the pentastar v6 that they've had for absolutely ages, and it's a relatively low output because again, it doesn't need to be a monster in this configuration. A sub 300hp motor that can store that energy into the battery for when more is needed is everything I ever wanted from a hybrid.
    The Ramchargers will be available in multiple trims from what I've read, from a tradesman all the way up to a tungsten. If I had to put an educated guess on this, I'd say ramcharger will be a $10k-$14k premium over the standard model. Big Horns will still be readily affordable, as will lower optioned laramies. A tungsten is easily going to crest the 6 figure mark I'd guess. Anything less then $10k over a hurricane powered truck is an absolute no brainer.
    And most importantly, this is a "1500" that could EASILY be classified as a 2500. 14k towing is nuts, It's probably going to weigh in the 7-8k range which will also help with stability when towing that much. I didn't want to deal with diesels so I was really looking at f-250's with the godzilla motor because I regularly tow 8k to 10k. I will now be holding out to see how this thing fairs before I ever consider dropping the money on a 3/4 ton truck now.
    Ram, you want someone to put it through it's paces when they're ready, holla at ya boi here lol

The Hurricane will do most of what they need, but something tells me the Hemi will still be made for decades, just in fewer vehicles. I personally will only miss the hemi in 6.2 and 6.4 form. Dont really care about it in something like a Durango or Cherokee if the L6 has 100 more hp, better mileage, and lower cost.

    Now make the RAMCHARGER "light-duty" option with a less expensive I4 generator. No turbo, VVT, or direct injection. Just like 50-60kW. You should still be able to meet emissions by having the engine only run at it's most efficient RPM during charging/range-extend mode with a specific RPM cam and ignition timing.
    Towing a boat or smaller travel trailer only needs about that much power going down the highway anyway. Would still easily give you a few hundred miles of towing for the folk like me that don't do it very often, or go to really remote areas with no charging around. And the ~150+ miles of electric range this should get will cover almost all of my normal daily and weekend commutes.
