    2:00 I was experiencing pain in this region from prolonged sitting in an old 1950s era desk chair I was using at the start of the pandemic telecommuting from home. I realized the pain was from the sitting position in that chair which before the pandemic I would sit in for no more than an hour most, but when telecommuting I was in it for my 9 hr shift, not continually as I would get up to walk around but the damage was still being done cumulatively. I finally went out an bought a modern ergonomic desk chair, and within a month the pain went away, so choice of chair is also a huge factor in how to avoid issues listed here.

    The overlap of the vertebrae transforms the spine into an active tower, whose stability must be achieved with dynamic anchors. A rigid seat does not give the legs the role of dynamic anchors and when you get tired, the back looks for support points and collapses in the backrest.

      What helps me a lot is having a bike and also doing that stretch where you bend your knee and grab your foot with your hand to stretch the top part of your leg (the muscle right above your knee). You can also use your bed instead of your hand if its difficult. Trust me, it helps. Also if you lay flat on your bed and bring your legs up and pull on the area behind your knees, youll feel relief in your lower back. Also any standing hip stretch. All those help you fight the problem.

    The trick to sitting well is to get rid of comfortable, cushy chairs and sit on a firm surface. Doing so will give your body kinaesthetic information about where the ground is, which stimulates your anti-gravity reflexes. Think your head towards the ceiling and your sit bones into the chair.
    Slide up toward the front of the chair and slip your hands under your sit bones so you can feel where they are. Your sit bones are rockers so you can easily rock forward and back, but perched on the bottom of the rockers will be most efficient. Relax your legs by moving them in and out so the are not held into your body and plant them firmly on the floor.
    It takes some time for the muscles to adapt to a change in use, bit ultimately sitting at the edge of a firm chair with your legs as secondary support becomes second nature and you can sit that way all day long with ease.
    Why? Because the vertical position allows each vertebra to stack on top of the next, requiring very liittle muscular effort, and the legs provide balance and a little support as well.
    It is difficult to do this when a chair is too too high, too low or tilted backwards. You hips should be at the same level as your knees or a little higher. If you only have squishy chairs, grab a large hardcover or something firm and put it on the chair.

    My wife has been diagnosed with Early Onset Dementia...
    A couple years ago she broke her hip...I can't get her to do anything...she just sits in the chair all day, between trips to the bathroom...
    She crosses her broken hip leg over the other...
    A couple weeks ago I was putting on here socks and noticed that one of her feet were puffy...when I push on it, it stays indented...I was told that it could be a symptom of liver or kidney problems...but it goes away when she lays down; it's only after sitting, with her legs crossed, that it happens...
    I have been trying to troubleshoot the problem by making her sit up straight and not cross her legs (before she started getting sick she had excellent posture)...
    I can't get her to cooperate...yesterday and today I told her that if she keeps crossing her legs that I would tie them to the legs of the chair...

      If my belt is too tight or I press the abdomen area, it might happen, so check your posture if you lean forward. Also try to keep abdominal breathing and check what you eat. If I eat pure bread, it might happen also.

    You missed out that the ligaments between pelvis and the genius is not made to be in a 90° angle, they can comfortable do 60° (standing being 0°), but everything above turns into stress:
    1. Either your muscles in the back start cramping from constant oulling to keep 90°
    Or
    2. You relax, turn your pelvis back and then get the problems you described.
    Thats why the popular "ergonomic" position is not helping.

    I had been experiencing body aches for months. It was extremely difficult to get up and move around. Despite being a man in my 40s, my movements resembled those of an 80-year-old. I had no idea what was causing it. However, when I happened to move to a new place and purchased a new extra firm mattress, it miraculously alleviated all my pain.

    Well many of us already know the reasons. Can you give us any solutions, instead of the reasons, which we already know? Shall we not sit? How should we work or sit or not sit? Which exercises should we do and how often? These kind of things would be more helpful in my opinion.

    • @katashley1031
      @katashley1031 ปีที่แล้ว

      OK, this can be resolved, so that's the good news. But you need to do some stretching before you get in the car. Takes 5 minutes and would make all the difference in the world. Long holds of a lunge, quad stretch, hamstring stretch and hip stretch. You interested?

  • @MegaNandoXZ

    I know many people (colleagues etc) that use exactly the "slumber posture", even in cars (driver seat all retracted and back); I usually try to explain them that's bad for posture and that they must use a better one, like back "parallel" to the seat and such. Sometimes it happens to me too when I'm overthinking or... I'm playing online against a good driver xD

    • @tobiasschulz1800
      @tobiasschulz1800 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The position itself it not much of a problem and so sitting in another position is not a complete solution. Usually it is important not to stay in a fixed sitting position for too long. Try to sit "dynamically". The slumber posture is no porblem, but change it after 20 Minutes. And no position will help you as much as just trying to stand up for a few minutes every hour.

    I'm in high school, and sometimes it really does feel like the chairs are literally designed to help you slump over. It's literally impossible to sit up straight comfortably in those chairs.

  • @toroddlnning6806

    I dont think prolonged sitting in a flexed posstion is the problem. I think lack of workout is the problem. I have a chair with adjustable angles. Im sitting in a flexed possition because it is more comfortable, but im changing the angle of my possition to get variation and not sitt for to loong in the exact same angle. I dont think standing up and down is for too loong without walking is too good either.

  • @NamelessUsers
    @NamelessUsers ปีที่แล้ว +2

    This just nailed my issues 100%, and in the exact problem areas. I have short legs too. This puts extra strain on my lower back because sitting in chairs tilts my pelvis forward due to my feet not properly reaching the floor to provide support. I dont know what treatment might provide some relief.
