Is getting a credit card for everyday expenses a good idea? Like paying off bills using the card and then paying the card with the money you already would have paid the bill with cash instead?

The next thing you have to do is to stop wasting money on things that cost a lot so if you have bikes - use them instead of your car ( especially if you are a city dweller . Sell your car ! It is depreciating in value and unless you absolutely need one you are loosing 1000’s in value every year road tax, and insurances ! If living and working in the city - workout if you need your car !!! Parking fees and fines are heavy. If you do need a car why not join forces with a friend and ask them to take you shopping ( paying them money for their fuel etc parking) car sharing will half the cost of your use of a car (and help the car owner in that they too can go to the shops and buy their shopping as well)

For me it’s prioritising sleep. Sleep well and you won’t have to spend money on caffeinated drinks, and you’ll be healthier (which means less medical bills!)

Jake Muga Having observed people who I have traveled with who can't function without their coffee, I never thought about the money I save. I never developed the substance addiction to coffee, nicotine or caffeine. When I asked others who do one or both of these, it made me realize how much money I save. All I need each morning, after brushing my teeth is 16 oz of water. I won't walk around in a fog if I don't have it similar to people who can't think straight before coffee. I do, however, enjoy my morning water!
I did invest in a good filtration system to enjoy my water drinking habit even more!

Big tip for others and way I've saved money is learning how to fix your own things. From car maintenance, bike maintenance, clothing and furniture repair, learning how to be more self-sustainable has saved me tons of money in expenses and helped me pick up new skill sets as well. Also, when I do finally need to buy something, I lean more toward thee buy once cry once category in that I'd rather pay a bit more for something that will last me for years instead of paying less for something I'll have to replace in a few months. TL;DR learn to DIY, purchase things mindfully

Yeah, agree. I actually just made a video on this same topic and that is one of the points I put on the list. Really important to learn how to fix your own stuff especially items like large appliances (dish washers, ovens, refrigerators, microwaves, etc...). Cars are getting harder due to all the computer control, but you can still do some things.

I've done a lot of what you recommended already. I got rid of cable TV four years ago ($298/month)...that's $14,304 saved, and I don't miss it at all since I've filled my time with more productive endeavors. I just saved $800/year on my car and home insurance by switching at the end of 2021. Same coverage, less money! I regularly check the available rates for electric/gas and just cut my electric supply charge by 40% last month. I put the savings toward paying off debt. I also started growing my own herbs two years ago, and have enough for my personal use and to give as gifts. I make my own BBQ sauce, rubs, vanilla extract and mayonnaise so I save at the grocery store. I really appreciate your insight. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience; it's valuable, enlightening and entertaining. As for social media...the biggest time waster ever invented. I don't have Instagram, Snapchat, TicTok, Twitter, Facebook...TH-cam is the only platform I use.

Its sad that most dont think of these things as good future holds instead of being out of the market and bottom hunting. My kids are tired of hearing me telling them
"You can only spend a dollar once"
It took a while to understand what it meant, but when they realized that after they spent what money they had on some shiny junk they didn't need, and had a real need later on, it finally made sense to them. Some of them are learning this a little faster/slower than the others, but they are learning.

  • @Dramaican88
    @Dramaican88 2 ปีที่แล้ว +82

One thing is either complete or cancel the open projects/ideas/dreams that ended up not being high priority. This is especially important for creative people that have a lot of ideas and have a lot of open projects at the same time. For any project you have invested in some gear/tools/resources and/or time and if it stays in progress for very long you have the resources sitting idle and not invested in a better way. You have to either complete the project as fast as possible to see the return and reward on the investment you made starting the project or cancel the project and free the resources (example sell the tools and gear that you no longer need). If you started 12 months ago to build a greenhouse, a pizza oven and a garden table, you bought tools, materials and everything you needed and in theory you could have built them in 2 months, but you haven't after a year, then face your decisions and responsibility and accept that you will not build them, so sell the tools and materials and invest your time and money in something else. Having resources sitting idle, because "I will one day complete that project" is not a good mindset for saving money.

Changing mentality about purchasing things is the key! We often think that buying things, coffee and going out are doing therapy which they do from time to time but not always. The other point is that when you don’t make much money you tend to purchase these little things to make your subconscious think you can afford and OTHERS think that you are wealthy. Rich people do the opposite they know they are rich and don’t care what others think so they don’t waste it on invaluable things.

Excellent suggestions! I love your philosophy of life! May I please add one idea? Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full-pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back. My wife and I have been giving 10% of our gross income (yep, before taxes) for over forty years. I've never earned the big "six-figure-income" and yet our lifestyle is such that my wife has only worked when she's wanted to. (She owned a travel franchise for quite a while so we've traveled to some AMAZING places.) We have no debt except our mortgage; we decided to remodel and add an apartment to our basement so we receive enough passive income to pay the mortgage. We have two nice paid-for cars. We put one of our two kids through a very expensive private college; the other joined the Navy. I could go on and on but the bottom line is that God loves a cheerful giver and if God loves it, you're GOOD! If I sound like I'm bragging, I am. I'm bragging about how God gives way more than I ever can.

My top tip would be - make your meals plant based. Doesn't need to be totally vegan, my partner adds meat to what I cook, but I can eat for pennies. Much cheaper to buy veggies, grains, even dried beans, rice, noodles than meat, or processed vegan substitutes. Plus the dried stuff lasts longer, which means you aren't throwing out spolied food (indirectly, money)

Amazing stream, as always. I commend the approach you take to the news and the markets. A lot has changed lately but the truth is I don't even care much about how bullish or bearish the market is anymore because LIBERTONCORP has got me covered as I am comfortably making 3.1B T C monthly.

Great vid again, Sorelle. Here's my tip (and it's soooo satisfying: If I like and use a product often, say shampoo, (mine is bio friendly and a bit more expensive than your regular drugstore shampoo) and it's on sale (online shops often have great discounts on top of the product that's on sale and free shipping if spent an x amount): I buy in bulk. It's odd maybe, but I have a 3 or 4 year supply of my favourite mascara, for example. It is satisfying to know I saved so much money and I love the tranquility of just having to go to my stock cabinet and pull out a fresh whatever it is when something is finished. It also saves me so much time and headspace of not having to go to the shops because I ran out on my fave product. So this is a great way to save money, time áaand energy. So: more joy. Freeedóoooommm, haha. Thanks for the awesome tips!

Thank you for another great video! I implemented this for the year 2022: when ever I buy something I don't need but I want it, say, cookies that cost 2€, or a decoration item that costs 30€, I put the same amount of money into my savings account. After a year I'll se what to do with that money.

I have lived by the majority of those things you mention my entire life ,before the internet it was no different and my parents lived a very fragile life and had a wonderful fulfilling life living the same way budgeting and knowing where every dollar went and not being reckless with spending, they retired and had a easy life thru retirement with plenty no matter what happens, I am doing the same and I have always remained debt free thru life buying new cars with cash and if I couldn't buy something with cash I waited until I could. Absolutely loved this video!!! I have my own business so I have the luxury to be flexible but I try t see people during the day when I am socialising, this has several benefits in that it means that I am not out too late in the evening but also It is much cheaper to socialise during the day, grab a cup of coffee and go for a walk, rather than spend a lot of money for dinner. I also moved out of London and now live on the Coast in the UK which is at once so beautiful and a really inspiring place to live but so so much cheaper than living in the capital.

Nice one, Sorelle. A good reminder for economies. I would like to add one thing: for the second hand clothes, the best for us, if we decide to buy 2nd hand, is to do an energetical cleaning after buying to be sure they are free of the emotions & feelings of the previous owner/s. This is actually very important for our health, but very very few people know it.
Now, that I think about it, maybe we should do that even with the new clothes...better safe than sorry, right? 😁
Big hug & thx for the tips. 😘

With the exceptions of the gym (I go three times a week and it's free for me) and prioritizing money, I'm pretty sure I have all of these covered. It's taken years of being single (when I was married, we spent money like it was going out of style), making my own food, staying away from mass media and television, and so on, to work all of these things out myself.
Another major exception, I think, is buying clothes at the thrift store. I buy a lot of computers, parts, sporting goods and other interesting things from the thrift store, but I need my clothing to be new. Shoes, especially.
Savings: I let my savings build until I need to put it into something that grows (no more than $500).
I hate paying interest. It's like throwing money down the drain, so credit cards are paid-in-full before the next billing cycle. You do have to keep track of the billing cycle and the dates, otherwise you'll pay hefty interest charges.
I hate paying fees - for anything. Late fees are especially stupid. Bank overdraft fees are probably the #1 stupid things to pay, but then it's only stupid people who don't learn how to count their money early on who end up paying these. I hear it's about 9% of most people who pay overdraft fees.
I can get all kinds of free books on the internet for whatever currently interests me, but eventually, I buy the book (usually by the inventor of the new tech or insight). Sometimes I buy books that turn out to be less useful (or useless), but it doesn't stop me from buying a book that might lend me insight into the world, and most of the time, I'm not disappointed.
I've been tempted to sign up for streaming services, but in the end, I always manage to resist the urge, reminding myself that these are not necessary, I can live without them, and there are better things to do with my time. On the other hand, I recognize my need to mentally "coast", and simply immerse myself in some sort of escapism. Usually it's youtube.

I do a lot of this already, and I agree they are wonderful points especially for people who haven't realized how much they're spending, but we have now entered a year where inflation and hyperinflation are a real thing (I live in Istanbul and hyperinflation has definitely started). What I'm trying to say is, how do we find a way around that? I have investments in gold, crypto, stocks etc, exercise, sleep well, cook at home so eat well and am thankful it has improved my health drastically, but seems that we are always behind in the race for financial freedom because there is a system issue that has magnified in the past two years. Does anyone have any advice on how to start getting ahead of this great transfer of wealth to massive corporations and billionaires, or do you think we'll have to struggle for a few more years? Will it have to get worse before it gets better? Thanks for the great video!

I moved to the US 25 years ago. I always loved going to Thrift stores and finding quality items. I would rather pay $ 10 - $ 15 in a quality item ( i like cashmere sweaters), than spend that amount in a cheap store where the items look bad after a few washes. I learned to sew from my grandmother. It surprises me how many people don't know how to hem a skirt or put a button. I have an amazing wardrobe: lots of linen, merino wool and cashmere, silk. Last time I bought new sweaters was christmas 2022. J. Crew and Ann Taylor Loft. Great colors and cuts but the sweaters looked bad after just a few months. (I used to teach Fashion History). In my family we cook almos all meals at home. I buy lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, or sodas. Your video made me realize that there are many other ways I could save my money and time. I confess that I use Netflix a lot. I have been improving my German and French language skills thanks to YOu tube and some great teachers there. It can be time-consuming finding the right material. Thanks Sorelle
