🤩 Sleeping on it, without a doubt. Almost all marketing leading to sales is based on an emotional response, which in turn results in very impulsive decisions. Marketers thrive on that. Sleeping on it, even for 1 night if not 30 lulls the emotion to the point where logic now has a bit of a chance. Happy Tuesday peeps. 🙂

I have been using the 10% rule, learnt it from the Richest man in Babylon. I'm actually using the same rule so I can pay my taxes. As soon as I earn something I put aside 40% for taxes, 10% for savings and the rest is for every day life expenses. I have been learning about the "sit on it rule" lately. I have bought my latest camera after waiting for almost a year and it turns out it was the right choice.
Definitely going to write 50 - 100 pros and cons regarding pros and cons of savings. Definitely going to make saving a habit: I've already begun to build a budget according to previous suggestions of yours. Applying the #konmarie method to my finances is GENIUS and I'm so excited to apply it to my finances!
I don’t fully agree with attaching an emotional connection to saving I feel it should be as detached as much possible but keep a practical goal and process driven approach to saving
A combination of 1.5 years of lockdown along with a lot of overtime at work and an investing mindset has allowed me to save 85% of my weekly pay. Now my investments are beginning to generate additional wealth which is far more satisfying to see than any gadget or item of clothing I don't need.
If you have seen the movie "In Time" you have to think about currency the same way. As long as you work a 9 - 5 you are trading your time for money and then you spend that money on things which means that you are trading time off of your life for things.
#5 is so true! i recently got a 25% pay increase and couldn’t afford to save much before but now i’m saving 25% a month since i didn’t increase my spending

I've watched so many videos about money and finances but never have I watched a single video with so much valuable information as you provide on your channel! Thank you so much for sharing all of your wisdom with us, Sorelle❤️
What impacted me the most from this video is viewing money as your hard earned TIME and not money. Also, as an American, I would for sure say us younger generations DEFINITELY value our time and having more life experiences in terms of travel much more than older generations. BUT, that doesn’t mean that corporate America has changed in terms of “allowed vacation time” I went to college and got a bachelors in Sociology to just come out of college unable to find a job in time to pay rent and my new lovely student loans. So I went back to nannying (which I had done all though college because it pays well) and could NEVER go back to working as an employee in the US. I always thought that it was strange that most other countries allow a whole months worth of vacation time. And that here your lucky to get 2 weeks s maybe even use your sick leave for some extra time off. It’s insanity here in the states because there is ZERO work life balance. It’s just go go go go. One thing I admired SO much in Europe when my fiancé and I went after I graduated (both of our first times out of the country) was that you see families and friends taking like 2-3 hours to sit and have lunch. Everything was so slow paced and people took their time to enjoy life and company with others. I really hope the US can achieve this one day.
SELL THE COUCH 😆 had same exact experience with a vintage chair I bought. The moment it was home, in the corner where it was planned to be, I started disliking it. 4 months later decided to sell it and was glad the chair was gone, along with frustration of impluse buying. And I got all my money back 🔥
My problem with spending is i spend impulsively on snacks and food. I'm very emotionally driven, and my head is really crowded and messy place. I feel the ease to say this "out loud". Thank you for providing so much value
Thanks for this video Sorelle! I used to on days when I was feeling the urge to spend, go into a shop, walk around mindlessly pilling things into my basket, and then when I thought I was done, walk back around and put everything back where they belong and walk out of the shop, it used to give me the 'spending' satisfaction, without actually getting anything.
Really feel the saving thing. Even when I made 30k a year and was paying student loans, I saved. I didn't save much, but I saved some, and it let me travel (not much, but some. and I had a really good time on those travels). Now that I make more I save more. Once you get into the habit of saving and living below your means, it is easy to keep up. But you have to build the habit.
Living a back packer lifestyle the past 2 years has really helped saving and keeping it minimal! You have to CARRY everything you buy! So it was easy to resist buying things if I asked myself "Do I really want to carry that?" If I ever have to buy anything, I always try to buy second hand first when it comes to clothing, better for the wallet and environment. The exemption to this is shoes. Always buy good shoes, since it saves in the long by not having to replace them as frequently.
just wanted to say THANK YOU with a deep gratitude. you have impacted my mental health profoundly over the last couple of years - and you still do so. you're such an authentic, intelligent, brave, inspiring human and woman. thank you for being you (all of you) and sharing that with the world. you always bring hope, joy and motivation. and damn, you are such a great speaker!!! love to u
Sending you the biggest hug! This message speaks to my heart so much! I love saving. I'm a natural saver, so #1 is my favorite! To keep a long story short, I've recently given myself a raise by taking on a second job for fun versus necessity. My husband and I have big dreams and each month, that extra money goes directly towards them. Every time I drive my school bus, I'm not just thinking about the kids I'm driving to and from school, but also how each trip is one step closer to making my dreams come true. I personally love knowing where my time and effort are going. It drives me to do my best.
Wow, this video just affirmed how much I love finances and learning about them. You have completely instilled the love of financial freedom within me, Sorelle, and I am so so SO appreciative.
Bang On Sorelle ! You have a unique, intelligent, common sense, disciplined mind set. Don't worry about the couch because a warm hearted person like you deserves a break sometime. Snuggle on your couch and listen to your favourite music. A famous billionaire once told his impulse buying story. He purchased a yacht and said honestly the two best days of boating was the day I bought it and the day I sold the Damm thing! Peace and stay healthy.
I'm listening to this audiobook "breaking the habit of being yourself" and it talks a lot about what you talked, rewiring your brain. Even if you dont believe in manifestation, it stills slaps you.
We're definitely being programmed to spend by commercials and it's been going on from our childhood. These tips are really helpful! I especially like the second and fourth hack. Thanks for sharing. 🙏
Sijambo, the way you start off with greetings from different languages, it's really cool and it captures one's attention to the contents of the video.👍
Hey girl, love your content! side note; Don't feel bad about the couch! Sometimes a reactional buy like that can also be a good thing, especially if you don't do them often. Something in you really liked it, and there's nothing wrong with wanting to make your home feel nice - it's where you spend your time! so what if you felt a little boujee? Enjoy it! Worst case, check if you can buy new covers, and change it to the colours you want 👏🏼 but if you really don't want it, you can consider reselling it to someone locally, since you bought it in your city, someone else might be looking to get one too 😊

This is such important information! I read the book “Your money or your life” when I was struggling with my finances and it was a game changer! It has a lot of this information in addition to tracking where your money is going so you can stick to your plan and clearly see where you may be overspending. Great video!
ty sorelle! These videos are really helping me reform how I think about money and finances and create a healthier relationship with how I care for myself
Hi Sorelle, just wanna say, I'm so glad you made the financial channel! Been a watcher of your photography/travel channel for years and getting to hear your financial side of things (something I've been striving towards in order to live a travel lifestyle that I want to) has been so inspiring because of the same lifestyle! I barely see this sort of background and while I want to grow rich and am astounded by the financial and wealth books, a lot of them come from a business background and one I don't feel too connected with. None of my friends also share the same type of enthusiasm as I grow upon this financial journey and I respect you so much for making this, teaching us, and inspiring us ❤️
I want to be better at believing in myself to start my business. So seeing your huge notebook with reasons why you want to be financially free made my heart jump!
Additional tips: monitor your financial health by the balance in your bank account immediately before your pay goes in. Also keep one savings account dedicated to your spending within the year (birthdays, holidays, car maintenance, etc.) and another for long-term spending (next car, new kitchen, air conditioning repairs, etc.). Have a plan for each so you know how much you need to contribute from each pay. Reduces the nasty surprises and avoids buying things on credit.
I almost cry at the end of the video. You are right. Material things doesn't matter at all. It's about what and who we are and what brings us joy ❣️🥰❤️💖 thanks for this channel, is changing my mindset and my life ✨💪🏼
I've been preaching all of these to my friends since I graduated college, And even more once I discovered the FIRE community. Thank you for sharing! I'm going to be sending this video to everybody 😆
Girl I have started watching your videos for a month now and seeing how beautiful you were inside and outside made me feel like I certainly want to reach that balance of being fashionable whilst being fiercely engaged in the flow of my work. Right now I knew it was an impossibility but wanted to see if I could make it work until you told us about you sacrificing the latest fashion trends so you can travel which is spot on with how I want to operate. You just made me feel so much better about my sacrifices and that advice you gave about writing things down is something my therapist implemented in many areas of my life. I'm impressed and it's a solid piece of advice that I never thought to use for financial goals which is a large portion of emotional influence in one's life. It just makes sense. You're a wonderful mentor. I'll continue studying the way you've lived since I can tell you're the kind of soul I wish to align with. 🥰
Thank you for this video! Extremely agree on sleeping on it, it can be beneficial not only on the financial side but also on the planning side. I slept for almost a year on the creative writing course. I wanted to buy it straight ahead, but finally, after sleeping on it I decided to postpone it, as I was sure not to have enough time. Well, this year I paid 60 euros more, than I have paid last year, but now I am sure that I have no other things that can prevent me from assisting classes on Wednesday and Friday evenings. And I am extremely happy with the purchase
I allways was 1 month behind my expenses, and depleting my wage a bit before month end. Very stressfull. Said that was enough, and became mega frugal for a while to have 1 month salary put aside to end the stress. That 1 month buffer was really calming for my life. And after that i became to "pay me first" after i received
I love your video. As a stylist and desigber growing up with littld money I am now showing even well- earning women how to style themselves extraordinary and uplevel thrir look without buying a lot. Actually, I felt a bit mimor about it, struggling with this focus, because I was afraid of attracting the wrong people. Now your video shows me that also the rich people love to buy smart and save money. Thank you so much, this inspires me to rethink my wording.
I like the goal and reward system. I normally set my savings goal for the month and if I reach it I reward myself with a free low cost experience or a low cost digital product like an audiobook! It makes me really excited and I tend to avoid overspending (especially if the reward is something i really want to buy) and it gives me a month to think about if i really want that experience or item.
Ya'll... I lived in Hawai'i with two small children for a year on $18,000 for that entire year. Our sleeping situation was not very comfortable but almost all our time there was Free time. I never had childcare because I couldnt find work which paid enough to justify the time away from them doing something I may not enjoy. I wasnt able to save. I find it harder to do in the states. 1 year mainland bound I am in ALOT of debt and glad I found this channel
Nice to see I totally have even using these strategies for years. It allowed me to quit my job and start practice when covid started. Without being worried of money
Ignoring income increases has definitely been the best way for me to save. When I was studying I was working part-time to support myself and made only enough to pay my expenses and maybe put $20 a week into savings. Now, my income has quadrupled but I still spend the same amount on expenses which allows me to save and invest 65% of my after deductions income while also giving me some extra money to treat myself. Another mindset hack I use is to carefully choose which accounts I follow on social media - I make sure that whoever I follow has the same priorities in terms of what money should be spent on. For me, it's travel so I avoid following style influencers even though style is an interest of mine - it's just not what I want to spend most of my money on.
Sorelle, the couch is an example that you are still a Perfectly Imperfect Human. Couldn't you look at it more like a lesson than regret? If you would've not done that, you would've not had a story to tell us. Your story makes you very relatable.
The 5th advice is what I rarely see being mentioned in other similar vids. I'm so happy you added that. Amazing content, as always! Keep these videos coming! :)
This is so helpful. At the end I was thinking like "nah, never had that urge to wanting to impress people" heheh I never even followed so called trends or whatever. I love your videos Sorelle!
I use the 'think of price in time' tip alot. A video game costs me a couple hours of work but I get dozens of hours of enjoyment out of it. Net profit! :)
Haha, yep! When you think about it, video games can have a pretty high ROI on entertainment. Some games can cost the same price as going out to the movies, where you're entertained at best for 2 hours. A game? Much longer.
I fucking love you. Exactly when i started researching finance, you started this channel and every week you are an amazing reminder of my goals. Finally I started to save money and centralizing my finance and I feel amazing. Freedom and travels is what I dream for, I educated myself to be imune to buying stuff and be a minimalist, and i entered the next level of becoming free, with you. Thank you sooo much for that!!! Kisses!
The hardest one is thinking of items in terms of time spent working. I always felt guilty when I worked it out... Made me hate everything I'd buy. Much better now at it!
Wooow this was one of the best financial videos I’ve ever watched!!! Exactly what I needed right now. I’ll definitely do all the hacks. I don’t struggle with impulse buying so I’m not concerned with having to wait 30 days to buy something. 😩thank you thank you thank you.
Love the couch story hahaha and your personality is just beautiful! What helps the most to consistently save is to send the money away at the end of the month to different bank accounts + investments. And the reward of spending that 10% on books and growth-focus courses?? Of course, having a partner that agrees with that vision is a great hack! Thank you for another great video!
1. Attach emotional reason to saving. When you want to spend, Write 100 reasons why is it beneficial to save now. 2. Think of time in terms of hours. When you want to spend, think is it worth to sacrifice 2 hours of your life for. 3. Dont buy on reaction to pretty stuff on discounts. Reaction buying sucks. Big companies have way to hijack your psychologies. Keep your mind focus on reasons for saving. 4. MAKE THE HABIT OF SAVING. Take 10% straight off to emergency account. First time. Before anything. Hide your emergency n travel accounts. Just see the daily accounts. Seeing that you only have small amounts to spend is a great help. 5. IGNORE YOUR INCOME INCREASES. Put it straight into savings. 6. BE AWARE OF CHANGING NARRATIVES. Minimalism.
This is excellent! Thank you so much! I was wondering if you could speak more on saving with a partner? Do you recommend shared accounts you both contribute to or just focus on your own? Or maybe both? Love these videos ❤️ Can’t wait for the next one!!
Thank you for these videos and for sharing your wisdom and advice. I’m in a bad situation with my finances and I am having to go into a debt repayment scheme. I’m subsequently limited to what I can do with my money over the next 4 years but when this ends I’m determined to turn my life around and be financially free. Your videos are keeping me positive and motivated in what’s frankly a sh*t situation. Thank you so much.
Sell the couch for the price you bought it for, its still a 30% less than the full price so whoever buys it is still getting a bargain, and maybe they will absolutely love it!. You have made your money back, and whilst you are selling it, buy one second hand that you are in love with. Moving on, I'm really loving your videos. I remember you from your selfie videos. Well done you for doing so well for yourself!!! SO great that you are inspiring so many people
Thank you so much for another amazing video! Such good topics, especially number one got to me! To me the biggest drive for saving money, as you've spoke about, is just what I want so much more instead. The freedom, the security, ability to do whatever I want, to help family, all that :D That motivation just has to be bigger, and that's what I always tell people who complain about no being able to save. That "you just have to find the motivation" for it to be worth it
Thank you so much Sorelle, you speak so eloquently in all your videos about the reality of money saving and finance, I just cant thank you enough for such valuable information. Looking forward to grow in this mentality and apply this wisdom.
I absolutely love being a rebel against the consumer mindset!! I do make the list Sorelle said not to make (haha!) of material things I want to buy. But it's really helpful for me because I don't buy anything else... and I wait to find the perfect one before making a purchase. Every purchase is very conscious. I say that Sorelle should enjoy her big, beautiful couch! It's something you'll use for years and years to come. I hope good memories on the couch can help you forget about the impulse purchase haha. Also, the hair is lookin noice!
#3 has been super powerful for me! Slight twist- after I came back from India I looked at purchases in terms of "how many thali meals could I buy for this much?" 🤣🤤
Thanks to the Universe i found you Sorelle😌. You add so much value to our lives. I just learn so much from you. Grateful 🙏❤️. More power to you. And you look soooo beautiful in long hairs🥰
😁 so in love with this information vibration (your channels) in my life right now! So is my partner. Every time I see a new video is up I get so amped because I know that I'm going to come away from it more expanded than I was when I saw the notification. Do you have a podcast at all? As always, thank you
Hey beautiful lady. Just the right person to come by with the perfect content to get me back in the right mind set. I needed a restart and to navigate into a new direction with money. I feel so inspired. Thankyou! Takes aways: Pay yourself first to show the universe you are worthy. Untouchable accounts. Been doing this for a while. Be can reassess and commit to this again with more direction. Just to rethink spending. Is this thing useful. Is this thing necessary? Can I do with out it?

You are a fountain of kindness, wisdom, and encouraging Thank you...
This was such a great video, I love all these tips. Especially the thinking of reasons why not to buy something. Thank you for sharing
Found my couch by the dumpster. Just washed and vacuumed everything. It's been really nice ☺️
Hello from Canada! This video was incredibly helpful! Thank you so much!
Thank you so much, this inspires me to rethink my wording.
youre a good influence on the generations that are rising up and I'm glad youre making such amazing content. KEeep it up! much love and God bless
Sorelle this is such an amazing finance channel wow you verbalize concepts so well!
Glad you think so!
I think being a person who never seek attention, has definitely helped me on the saving side. Yay for not trying to show off ever.
That's a beautiful couch. It's literally making you money right now!!
Since you do now own that couch there is no reason you do not sleep on it for 30 days, or even more! Cool video, thank you.
I am so grateful for your videos. Thank you for all that you do. You're more help than some that charge you for the minimum.
I'm new here and I'm already at 5th video. You have truly given me insights on my dimming nights. Thank you! keep it UP!
THANK YOU for being here to digest all this info!
THANKYOU Sorell for your amazing knowledge and for sharing it with me and the world ❤
I love the energy I get every time I watch your videos. Great content and delivery mate!
Glad you enjoy it!
Sorelle, the couch is an example that you are still a Perfectly Imperfect Human. Couldn't you look at it more like a lesson than regret? If you would've not done that, you would've not had a story to tell us. Your story makes you very relatable.
Sorelle, i've travelled through all of Europe hitch hicking. There are also very cheap ways of travelling. And super funny! The best adventures ever!
I literally had to replay the greeting at the beginning💙💯
🇰🇪Hujambo- Greetings/Hello
I really love your content, transformative
The 5th advice is what I rarely see being mentioned in other similar vids. I'm so happy you added that. Amazing content, as always! Keep these videos coming! :)
This is so helpful. At the end I was thinking like "nah, never had that urge to wanting to impress people" heheh I never even followed so called trends or whatever. I love your videos Sorelle!
Awesome content , Sorelle. Congrats !!!
I really like your style and enthusiasm! And you sum it up very well. I like the idea of counting in time and not $ 😊
I use the 'think of price in time' tip alot.
Thank you for watching!
Minimalism.
totally unrelated but I just got a color accurate computer monitor and your color grading is ON POINT Sorelle!
The greeting today was in Swahili 😍😍😍
Much love from 🇰🇪
This is excellent! Thank you so much! I was wondering if you could speak more on saving with a partner? Do you recommend shared accounts you both contribute to or just focus on your own? Or maybe both?
Love these videos ❤️ Can’t wait for the next one!!
These videos are helpful. I'm trying to pay off my debt in full in a month and this is the extra push I need to move forward.
inspiring content, just started investing, thanks Sorelle!!
SO great that you are inspiring so many people
Warching this with my boyfriend, we will take your advices serious! Thanks a lot ❤️
WOW - such exciting times! Thank you Sorelle already on number 46 :D
My gosh.... these are so good! Started on your other channel.... stoked you started this one. Thanks Sorell ♡
I absolutely love your energy. You are so positive.
Slight twist- after I came back from India I looked at purchases in terms of "how many thali meals could I buy for this much?" 🤣🤤
Haha, that's such a great tactic!
Thanks to the Universe i found you Sorelle😌. You add so much value to our lives. I just learn so much from you. Grateful 🙏❤️. More power to you. And you look soooo beautiful in long hairs🥰
I really like your voice. It gives an impression that you are very informative person.
I need a vision book! I personally love clothes, but practice quality over quantity and love thrifting. It's not worth bankrupting yourself for.
😁 so in love with this information vibration (your channels) in my life right now! So is my partner. Every time I see a new video is up I get so amped because I know that I'm going to come away from it more expanded than I was when I saw the notification. Do you have a podcast at all? As always, thank you
I have a personal podcast, but we're about to start a podcast on freedom/finance related to this channel. Watch this space!
Never thought of tip #1. This will be a fun list to make over a cup of coffee ☕️ 🤩
Love these videos. It's certainly helped me to stop eatting out on the daily
I loveeee saving money, I just tend to spend too much on books though
Nothing wrong with books, especially education!
AMAZING video thank you so much for sharing
I love this! Thank you for the motivation
Going with number 1 ❤️
Thank you for this video
Hey beautiful lady. Just the right person to come by with the perfect content to get me back in the right mind set. I needed a restart and to navigate into a new direction with money. I feel so inspired. Thankyou!
Takes aways:
Pay yourself first to show the universe you are worthy.
Untouchable accounts. Been doing this for a while. Be can reassess and commit to this again with more direction.
Just to rethink spending. Is this thing useful. Is this thing necessary? Can I do with out it?
I never clicked so fast for a video
Haha AMAZING!
