The tall Eucalyptus trees @ 4:25 that surround UCSD have been there since the 1960s. I remember seeing them as a child in the early 1970s when my Mother attended UCSD.
I'm watching this video on campus right now as a freshman at UCSD, and normal life seems so strange. Hopefully I'll be able to experience normal college soon.
@@ByteOfMichael Actually I am more interested in Tech Entrepreneurship than going the traditional job route ( will do a job but only for 3-4 years). Will UCSD be a good school for these goals? I have only gotten into UCSD so far and am waitlisted at CMU, GT, UMich, Purdue.

Hi! I want to major in computer science and I got accepted at UC Davis in computer science, but at UCSD I got accepted in Mathematics-Computer Science. In terms of convenience, UCSD is a better option, because it’s closer, but I don’t know if it’s worth it taking Math-Computer Science instead of Computer Science. How has your experience been and do you have any tips for me? I’ll have to make a decision soon :/
Congrats on the acceptance btw! So my major is actually Math-computer science, which I actually like better because I think the math aspect can be applicable to a lot of different areas (i.e finance or data science). Compared to the Computer Science and Engineering major at UCSD, Math-CS majors end up taking more math classes (I’d probably say like 60% Math classes, 40% CS classes depending on electives you choose for your major), whereas CSE majors take mostly CS related classes. If you are curious, I’d probably suggest looking into the classes each major at each school will require for you to graduate, that way you can get a feel for what classes you’ll be taking. Additionally, if your unhappy with Math-CS, you could always switch majors to Computer science and engineering, but there is no guarantee you’ll get accepted, as most stem majors are capped. Hope this helps in someway!
@@ByteOfMichael Thanks! I really like Math, but I am also enjoying programming in high school. I mainly opted for computer science as a first option because the work field is really good. I don't know a lot of stuff about Math-Computer Science, and its work field but the things you mentioned sound great! I got accepted in Warren College and I have to take a decision by May 14, so idk if you know things from Warren that could come in handy or any other info in general.
So I don’t know a ton about Warren. I know that there are usually a lot of engineering students in Warren and you should check out the Warren general education requirements warren.ucsd.edu/academics/general-education/index.html . Also you should consider quality of life and quality of education when choosing a university. If you loved UC Davis and didn’t like UCSD, you’d probably do better at UC Davis, so that’s also a factor! From my experience most Math-CS students work in the same areas as pure CS students (and when I talk to recruiters I usually just say my major is mathematics and computer science). To talk from personal experience, I’ve had 2 software engineering internships and I have a job lined up at a big tech company after I graduate as a software engineer. So in my opinion Math-CS is very similar to just pure CS except with more specialization in Math! Hope this gives some insight!
@@ByteOfMichael Thanks for the help! Now that you mention it, it can really catch up the attention of anyone saying that your mayor is Math and Computer Science, so it's definetely not a bad option. I still have 4 days until the final decision, but I'm starting to lean towards San Diego. Besides, last summer I participated in the Enlace Research program at UCSD and I was able to work at Jacobs School of Engineering, so I know what's like to live there and it's awesome! Again, thanks and I'll comment here what I decided to choose :)
Good luck on the decision and most of the stuff I said is just from my personal experience (so take my notes with a grain of salt haha), but hopefully it could provide some insight!
You look like Harry Potter just without glasses. >_
Haha I actually get that a lot
This was really a week before covid 😭
Honestly haha

Ya this was filmed like right before moving to online learning
I wondered why you would randomly break into British and Irish accents, but when you said Love Island I understood immediately! 😂
It keeps things spicy
Ohhh i am a senior in CompE at UIUC, and i will submit mscs tomorrow, hope I will be admitted by San Diego!
UCSD or UCI for Comp sci?
How is the Data Science major? I got accepted to UCSD and I am thinking about committing.
I think it seems like a really awesome major. If it was available my freshman year, I definitely would have considered committing to it!

Will data science be a good major for going the entrepreneurship route?
any updates on this?
@@dang579 committed to UCSD.
THANK U!
What club do you recommend for cs students at UCSD?
