  • The Grand View Garden, also known as the Daguanyuan, is a massive landscaped garden in the classic 18th century Chinese novel Dream of the Red Chamber. Shanghai’s grand view garden is a full-size replica of the imaginary garden based on the novel. It was built in 1988, using the same name. A television drama series based on the novel was filmed in this garden. A larger version of the Garden also exists in Beijing.
The Grand View Garden covers an area of 11 hectares and is designed in the traditional Chinese garden style, with a large lake as the centerpiece. The garden is divided into four parts, each representing a different season, and features a variety of pavilions, bridges, and rock formations.
Visitors can explore the many scenic spots within the garden, including the Grand View Tower, the Ten-Thousand-Flower Pavilion, and the Red Chamber Music Room. There is also a museum within the garden that showcases artifacts and exhibits related to the history and culture of the garden and the novel.
