Our first Springer was never interested in the ball, unless another dog was after it.She was also cheeky and a bit stubborn, but was a fantastic hunter, she would never give up.Even at 12 years old,she still had the drive to keep going, was super fit,we had to be carefull she didn't overheat,in the hot weather we have in Aus.The Springer we now have is ball crazy and extremely obedient, just enjoys doing what she is told to do.Also much more patient and not a great hunter. Both great companions, and family dogs.😍
Our springers are show dogs wouldn’t chase after anything we have rabbits living in the yard dog could care less. They are however the most lovable dogs I have ever had great companions as well. Love you shows.
i have a showline springer and a cocker before really difrent a showline springer as the hunting line you have there. both of them have a lovely karakter
This is very helpful and I’ve recommended it to a few folk who’ve asked me the difference on a walk. I have a springer choosing that because I heard they were slightly easier to train. …. All I can say from my pup is I couldn’t have coped with it being harder! 🤣🤦♀️😐
Perfectly described our cocker, where there's no game she just potters about, ask her to hunt and she almost looks at you and asks 'what for?' also a bit meh about retrieving tennis balls and canvas dummies. Put her on scent or use a rabbit skin dummy or cold game and it's like she's 100% a different dog, and yes you have to have your wits about you then too!
We have a sprocker, our 7th dog but first field spaniel. He has the bad traits of both breeds. High energy, territorial, bird chasing psycho that dislikes visitors. My wife chose him but he's attached himself to me. So much for a quiet retirement.
Your videos are so helpful. I’ve had 2 cockers and I’ve taken the plunge and got a springer bitch. 4 months old. Where do I need to be with her in terms of training at this age?
Hi there, I have recently adopted a springer approximately 8 years old and a cocker around 6 years and am wondering if you think I can still train them, I don't want them jumping through hoops but would like them to sit, stay, come etc. as they don't seem as if they know any of this as I believe they have just been used for pups. Watching this video of yours you have described both of my dogs to a "T" especially the cocker.
Hi Chris in the number of dogs youve seen have you noticed a difference in resource garding or bad temprements between the two? Or is that mostly down to bad breeding. Just you usually hear it more with cockers id say.
Personally for me resource Garding normally comes off the back of getting a few parts done incorrectly because I'm very anal about how I do my early retrieving and the fact that I don't allow my dogs to have objects outside of retrieving avoids resource guarding becoming a thing. Also, because I'm very black and white about how I do things the dog always sees me as the leader.
Can I ask why a dog that is ball mad is easier to train? Do you use the ball as a reward? My cocker is ball mad and will ignore everything around him (which I want!) when I have a ball in my hand, just wondering how I apply that to training with it
Because if you've got something that Dog wants to work for through you, you can really teach the dog to interact concentrate and focus on various different drills admittedly you can get a lot of things wrong with the Ball mad dog but in the right hands it's a really trainable dog

Love your videos. Any thoughts about a cavachon (dad) & springer (mum) mix? We are going to get one but it's an odd mix and we'd like to figure out more about her temperament
Accurate. My little lady is a thief also. She likes the softness of my balls of yarn (I knit) I often find she's carried them to her bed and is cuddled up. Not ideal, she's such a ninja I don't see her do it
Hi Chris we exactly the same dogs springer and cocker fabulous but I think our springer needs done training we don’t shoot 😊how can your site help me here . Thanks guy
Hello, Do you recommend any springer , cocker breeders in the Hampshire/ Wiltshire area ? Had a look online and my personal opinion is "they look a bit dodgy" Thank you
So informative , forgive me but is there a video on feeding? Especially when you first bring a puppy home . Don’t have facetube or Insta so just rely on your TH-cam vids which are 👌👌
Got to love a little cocker devils but I do love my springer who is a little textbook dog to work and train
Little cocker devils are a good way of describing them! They have character! Oh but I adore my little cocker devil lady ❤

I have 2 working springers. Adore them both and definitely people pleasers! Looking to add a working cocker so this was very useful
Great video!

They keep you on Your toes
Springers are relentless the drive in them is unreal
My cocker died in 1981 and I miss him to this day.
Great video. Thank you x
I found Cockers bark more and are a bit territorial. But agree the Springer is easier. I now have a Sprocker which is an eye opener.
How is a ball orientated dog easier to train, do you have a vid about that ?
Thanks. And the Sprocker? Are they in the middle, or is it pot luck what you get?
50/50 ☺️🤣

Should have got a Field Spaniel…more docile with an off switch….

A Cocker will age you more

Can you develop ball madness? My 4 year old Springer is totally disinterested
Spring are probably slightly more prone to being bull mad it's a great thing, but you have to manage it carefully
@@hampshirespanieltrainingwi9314 thanks. I can’t get him to be interested so we’re working on it.
We have one of each and the cocker will pick your pocket whilst smiling in your face 🤣🤣🤣

It can go ether way ☺️✅
Why cross breed?
Wait, is that cocker called Charlie? I have a blue roan tan girly spaniel named Charlie, she’s a little nippy but very adorable 😊
That's lovely ☺️
