  • I wanted to plank the ceiling in my front porch to give it a modern wood look. In this video I will show you how I cut plywood into wood planks to get a faux shiplap look on my ceiling. The installation process was really easy and the project required just a brad-nailer. I hope you like how this wood-look ceiling turned out!

    I just finished a project using the same materials. We cut 1/2" plywood at 8" so we could get 6 equal boards, which were 7 1/4" inch when you figure the saw blade width. Then we ran it horizontally halfway up the wall as Wainscott. We used two nickels for our spacers turned out really nice.

    When I was doing the front porch on my house I didn’t necessarily worry about square but the number of deck planks it took to cover the entire porch. I had to get the spacing right because I didn’t want a strip of wood at the end not the same width. Love the video lol good work!

    Hey, I am thinking of doing something similar for knee walls in my enclosed porch, where I am the weather can get very cold and damp, or hot and humid. Thinking of coating whatever plywood/ wood panels we decide to get with polycrylic. If I white wash them, should do the poly last, correct? and in your other video, I believe you mentioned it shouldn't really yellow that much? How many coats of polycrylic did you do?

    • @WelcometotheWoodsBlog
      @WelcometotheWoodsBlog  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Whitewash before poly, yes. Polycrylic will not yellow. I would do 3-5 coats. The ceiling in my porch will never actually get wet, so I only did two coats of poly. Best of luck to you!

    I couldn't tell from the video if you were being systematic about where you placed you nails and how many you used. I was also curious if you counter sank the nails and then filled them with anything before you applied the poly. Did you have any problems separating the planks after you applied the poly to the entire stack? I would have thought you would have a stack of planks all glued together at their edges. But, I thought it was an awesome way to get all the edges sealed and not having to do 50 individual edges.
