We just moved to Austin Texas so follow along as we settle in to our new home, do massive renovations and continue traveling the world. Our TH-cam channel started when my son started asking me if my husband was 'coming to visit today' he had become a workaholic and family time was nonexistent. We decided we were over living a life that we didn't want. He quit his job, we rented out our house and we hit the road for a year in an RV with our 4 kiddos. We went out to find our new fulfillment as a family, but what we found was worth so much more, a new passion for travel, marriage, family and faith.
I painted the boards and the trim first. I filled in the nail holes afterwards and then sanded/painted over them. That prevented me from having any paint globs in the spaces
Thank you! They told us at the store to start from the bottom & work up!! SOO glad I watched this! You kept us from making a HUGE mistake!!
You can also use a neodymium magnet to find the studs as they will stick to the sheetrock screws through the sheetrock.
It looks great and it looks easy to do. And you all will have your work all cut out for you to do. You’ll never run out of anything to do. Lol. See you next week stay safe.

If you put painters tape where you put the nails in, then caulk the nails before pulling of the tape, you won't have to sand where you covered the nails.
I found out about this truck recently! wish I would have known it when we did the wall👍
So, then you shoot the nail through the painters tape? Just making sure what you mean because that is brilliant.
Looks great - but why wouldn't you paint the wall the same color as you paint the shiplap?

We always paint the color of the ship lap but id interested to see that too!

Was the plywood sanded on one side. Did you lightly sans prior to putting up
What size nails/brads did you use for 1/4” plywood?
Looks great! How did you ensure the paint doesn’t get in/look weird in the shiplap gaps?
Just don't glob the paint on and it goes on smoothly in the cracks👍

No not this but tongue and groove would totally work!

I used 1/4” plywood on my bedroom walls. I cut them on my table saw. Saved $$. You can see the natural uneven finish in the boards and some unevenness in the gaps which gave the room a nice rustic feel. I sprayed them to get the paint into the gaps and a more consistent finish.
Does paint pool in the gaps?
I have not had that problem but I do use a very light roller and have a thin pain brush on hand if needed.

sorry just saw this. Lightly sanded where needed. I do both sides.
What church do y'all go too? Your children are adorable. I watched all the videos in about 2 weeks. I love them all so much. I have not found any other channel that I really like. Do you mind if I share your channel? I love how y'all talk about God. I am a Christian. God comes first in everything I do. I was a Missionary to American Samoa and PNG. Now my Dad is a pastor in MS.

To get rid of any thin pieces do the math and trim both top and bottom boards
Rich people use quarters for spacers , the rest of us have to use nickels

So many skipped steps! So you sanded after filling the holes? And I didn’t see the caulking part between primer and paint.
They come in colors you don’t have to paint lol
This isn't shiplap, this is just boards nailed to a wall.

Worked construction for 7 years, never once used ear protection for saws, nail guns etc.

Your finished product looks good but I have to say, that is not shiplap in any way. Shiplap means there’s an overlap of the boards, kinda similar to tongue and groove.
This is a beautiful job and a lot of work, deserves to be in a area to be appreciated

yesss! look them over, it can hide a lot of imperfections on drywall and ad character to your home.

Can you use glue along with nails to hold the ship lap in place?
Yes you can. A lot of people do but it will destroy the drywall behind it👍

Looks great and it gave us some ideas. A couple of questions for you. What type of plywood did you use? Just a good-one-side plain plywood or did you use a nice Birch plywood? Also, did your paint roller get into the edges of your strips or did you need to brush the gaps before rolling? Thanks.
Always brush gaps and corners. My dad used to paint professionally and always took us along when he could.
