AlFall exactly. When I was a kid I didn’t have patience to learn to Ollie for some reason but now I want to learn it and i been practicing but I’m still working on it ✌🏼
Aaron’s tutorial honestly kinda sucks. Made me learn it incorrectly by breaking it down into 3 steps, and learning the steps individually. It made my Ollie’s very choppy and inconsistent. Best advice is to understand the mechanics and just go for it.
Picked skating up again after many years probably like ten years. Guys get comfortable just riding. Be as comfortable on your board as possible. Then come back to this video and take it one step at a time. Squat down with good balance. Then pop. And drag the foot up and suck your knees into your chest. You have to work the muscles being recruited for the movement and strengthen them. Putting the movements together with muscle memory and concentration is key. You can do it ! I landed a bunch today and it was my second day out after ten years off. Gotta give all the credit to this video and videos like it. Thanks a lot! Don’t give up guys. Also, one thing I was doing is using the slow motion camera on my phone to see where technique was lacking. Good luck

a huge help was taking videos of myself and watching each attempt in slow motion. remind yourself of what you’re trying to do, the steps (which are well laid out in this video btw) to achieve that, then note what you’re personally doing wrong in reference to those steps. i just started monday (i’m writing this comment on saturday of the same week) and i landed my first clean ollie friday. i’ve probably tried it close 500 times within those couple days, day and night. don’t give up, keep grinding.
For all those "giving up" guys - I'm over 35. Still didn't landed my first Ollie, but I keep trying. And I can tell you my muscles are for sure much more Ollie unfriendly than yours in teen age ;)
I have a major tip for anyone still struggling. I used to not be able to get my back wheel off the ground at all and it was mainly all because I didn't pop hard enough (due to me being scared to pop hard for some reason and that could of gone alot easier if I was already comfortable on my board) and I also did the foot drag motion somewhat but I only dragged it up a little or bearly at all. I also had the timing all wrong because I kind of took it like steps (pop, drag, land) but really its just supposed to be all at one motion. I finally got my ollies off the ground after getting educated about them and really understanding the proper way to do them. It wasn't just that but it took me a lot of practice and I mean alot like 3 hours a day straight. PRACTICE IS VERY IMPORTANT TRUST ME IT PAYS OFF AND I LEARNED THAT. but annyways here is a list of things you should know for your ollies: 1. Bend your knees and use them as a spring when you jump 2. Actually jump while doing the motion 4. Think of the pop as a flick of your foot 5. Think of dragging first, because the pop is really quick and it will happen if you know how to do this correctly. (This works for me when I think about it because it helps me always get the timing right but it doesn't work for everybody) 6. When all 4 wheels are in the air push down the foot that you dragged down to the ground, while lifting the other foot that you popped. 7. Alot of vids or ppl dont mention this but the drag foot placement before you ollie is super important. If you are a bit taller put the foot you drag with closer to the foot you pop with. If you are shorter like me put the foot you drag with further away from the foot you pop with. (BUT MAKE SURE THAT YOUR FOOT YOU USE TO DRAG IS STILL CLOSE TO THE MIDDLE) 8. Land each foot on the bolts 9. If this still doesn't work go back to the simple motions of pop, drag, and land and keep on doing them over and over. The best advice I can give to you is to practice you will get it eventually and be consistent like do it everyday even if you just try 10 a day you will see some improvement in a week. I've been trying for a very long time, but what happens is my pop never really lifts the tail off the ground, so I get a rocket ollie without any height.
@@nm9tf Put your back foot as far back as possible, on the edge of the tail. Jump as high as possible but don't pop until your feet are basically leaving the board. Wait until the last second before you pop. Then you wont have any weight on the tail, allowing it to lift off the ground. Then immediately lift the back foot high up in the air and slide your front foot forward/upwards. That should make the tail lift!

@1:32, I've been watching slow motion ollies from several different skaters, and I notice that the front foot actually starts its forward motion before the tail even pops... So, my guess is that most beginners ollie mistake is being a half second too late on the front foot getting moving forward and up...

Hey Sw1ftGamingCrew, that happens sometimes. Once you move on to more complicated and difficult tricks, sometimes you can forget how to do the more basic ones. This can be frustrating...but PRACTICE is the key! Good luck!
Hey, great video. But one thing no one tells you is; Do you jump off with your right foot or your left foot? Or do you basically jump off with both feet equally but with an extra footsnap with your right foot. Then do the left foot slide? I've been trying to jump off with my right foot only and that's not working. I mean if somebody would have just said that your spos'n jump with both feet at the same time while the right foot is also snapping of the same time I would have learned of this immediately. Instead I'm trying to jump off only my right foot and then waiting for that jumpoff to be able to then do the 2nd movement of the slide with my left foot. I don't think you're supposed to do it that way though.
It looks like you're jumping off with both feet at the same time with an added right foot pop that is also being done at the same time. Then very shortly after that you do a little bit of a slide with your left foot, correct?

well its night time so i dont really want to skate but ive been trying to ollie for a very long time...but i was nvr able to get it till yesterday.....then today i was practicing on my friend's skateboard a fake one as well as mine....and i remembered watching this one video where the guy kinda slid his foot off the tail but got it back on...so i tried doing tht and i kinda pushed back and i was landing it..but i feel like its not the right way...please help
I need help I can almost do the Ollie but I just need help on the part when you slide is like the griptape suppose to help you on that or it's just your movement or does it actually help?
Hey Papi, good question. The griptape is most definitely supposed to help you on the "slide" part of The Ollie. The friction between the rubber and fabric on your shoe and the coarse surface of the griptape is what allows the board to seemingly "stick to" your feet. A crucial part of the "slide" is making sure you turn your foot sideways while you pull it up to the nose of the board! Watch the motion at 1:44.
The important thing is timing What timing you ask ? Pop the tail when you are lightest on the board (but just before you lose contact with the board ) A lot of people pop midway or when they are heaviest on the board

bitch please im 27 and i've been skating on and off since about 14 and im still not satisfied with my ollies :D when you are starting even lifting wheels couple centimetres is a success for you but as you get older you want to get on the level when you want to pop as high as humanly possible and also doing it consistently and with style. Skateboarding is a never ending journey but i understand that people get demotivated from time to time, it happened to me too its one of many challenges that skateboarding brings. As im older i learned to value progress more than just landing a trick. And also if you have some tricks that demotivate you and you suck at them just try some other tricks regain confidence and then start to work on those that you suck at.

well its night time so i dont really want to skate but ive been trying to ollie for a very long time...but i was nvr able to get it till yesterday.....then today i was practicing on my friend's skateboard a fake one as well as mine....and i remembered watching this one video where the guy kinda slid his foot off the tail but got it back on...so i tried doing tht and i kinda pushed back and i was landing it..but i feel like its not the right way...please help
The important thing is timing
What timing you ask ?
Pop the tail when you are lightest on the board (but just before you lose contact with the board )
A lot of people pop midway or when they are heaviest on the board
By far best guide
Wow I've seen alot of tutorial but this helps the best
Dude great video this really explained it we’ll thanks now I can Ollie!
I have been trying this since 1 month, yesterday I ollied over a small curb but not consistently though.
where can I get this full video?
Amazing explanation love it
I liked this video because you explained it really good
this helps a lot. thanks so much
Where you able to get one yet?
What if I can't turn my front foot fully sideways? I am not really flexible enough to do that, any tips? Or is it okey just not Turing it fully?
this is the best way to learn an ollie thank you sooooooo much. :)
What size board is he using in the video?
Best tutorial ever
I've been practicing for a month and I'm starting to get the hang of it. Sliding my foot all the way up is something I cant figure out I'm never going to give up but its something I don't know how to fix? I NEED HELP
What is the song called that is played at the beginning of this video?
Hey Robert, the snippet at the beginning is from a song called "A Proclamation", by one of our favorite bands, Close Your Eyes.
Is this DVD available anywhere?
Thank you for the technique
I just learned to play for 2 months.
How long does it usually take to learn this trick?
This was the most helpful
I need help! when I try to Ollie my foot is just really hard to slide up. is it my grip? I have suede vans and mob grip. Help please. THANKS
Just ride your board a bit more, it may be just too grippy and needs to be worn down a bit
It's hard to squat down and stay for a couple of sec without my board rolling, how to get it to not roll while I'm squatting trying to warm up to jump?
God these noob skateboarders are such sore losers. They all be like I'm giving up when I've been trying for 3 hours bro it's gonna take at least a couple a weeks so stop putting yourself down
BassistAar I've been doing this for 5 months and still haven't got it buddy
It took me 3 days before I got 1 decent Ollie down
You guys have probably done Ollie's . Y'all just don't have air to em . So it doesn't seem like it . Keep practicing . That's the joy of skateboarding
Cstubing24 my friends are even a loser. He doesn't want to learn any tricks and gives up easily
bitch please im 27 and i've been skating on and off since about 14 and im still not satisfied with my ollies :D when you are starting even lifting wheels couple centimetres is a success for you but as you get older you want to get on the level when you want to pop as high as humanly possible and also doing it consistently and with style.
My problem is that I can get my board off the ground but not very high. I can go up about 2 inches above but none higher. Any Solutions?
been watching a bunch of videos on how to ollie that when i bought a skateboard and first tried it i actually landed it
Pretty cool explanation!!! Thank you!!
well i don't know but do you also have a penny ollie tutorial?
Melvin 12
Hey Melvin, we don't have a Penny Cruiser Ollie Tutorial as of now, sorry.
