As a previous owner I think it's also important for potential owners to know that this thing is, maybe not obvious to some, an x86. By nature, it has a gigantic battery, and a gigantic cooling system, for a mobile device of its size. While cool, what this comes together to say is: This device is a brick. It's tiny, dense and heavy and very bulky to carry. And noisy. For example of the weight, you don't want to carry it pressing on its shoulder buttons or joysticks because over time its own weight will reduce their lifespan. The hardware failure points of this device are the buttons/joysticks and they won't be replaceable forever. There are 4 sides to the device that should be downward-facing while carrying. That's just the least of it.
@@Worldwave it definitely isn't a very slim device but for me isn't to heavy, to the point it's bothersome. Definitely much lighter than the 17 inch r5 Alienware I lugged around with me in highschool and beginning college lol. As for the buttons thing, this is true for all devices! That's why I buy cases like crazy 🤣.
I hope that Thunderbolt 5 will come into use this year, allowing for excellent performance with devices like the ASUS XG Mobile RTX 5090 on consoles such as the GPD, connected with just one long cable without the need for a power adapter or an external monitor. It would be great if the GPD Win 5 retained its characteristics but perhaps upgraded the screen to a 1440p OLED and removed the black bezel around the display.
@@goq9757 these are all dreams and would be amazing!!!!! Definitely hope they implement these. I'm curious about the thunderbolt 5 though, I think for now oculink is definitely the connection to lookout for!
Only realistic issue would be no vrr on the screen forcing to lock to 40hz or 60hz to avoid screen tearing. However this thing is a dream come true for true portable enthusiast as somebody who used the ds/3ds psp/ps vita extensively. This plus a 20k mah portable charger with 65 watt output and your set.
I got the same unit with the same specs and I agree with everything you're saying.... the trick is to set your Ryzen software settings correctly and learn how to use the Motion Assistant software correctly. Theres really no comparison. Steam deck is just nice...it doesn't compete with these handhelds. I own the deck and an ally. I got the ally because it blows the steam deck away in terms of power and my ability to use programs like lossless scaling. The OS is nicer on deck but has limitations, in my honest opinion while it games fine the steam deck needs a new iteration beyond an oled screen.
