While everybody seems to be hoping Intel will be a major competitor to Nvidia, I'm sitting here by myself and hoping that AMD's innovation with iGPUs and the G series processors will make a dedicated video card obsolete for most people. Just like we aren't using "sound cards" anymore.
Apple already did that with their Arm based machines and Nvidia will probably lead the charge there whenever they release consumer arm based CPU's. MacOS is on Arm, Windows for Arm is getting much better, Valve is already working on Proton for Arm. All I'm saying is, don't be too sure AMD is going to dominate here forever.
discrete GPUs definitely will become obsolete for most people. Just look at Apple's iGPUs which are very competitive with high end mobile GPUs. However the sound card comparison is not really valid ... ignoring the DAC aspect of sound cards, they went away because it's not very useful to offload audio processing from the CPU anymore. GPUs on the other hand have become very general data parallel processors that are becoming more and more important. Integration is now being driven by cost and power constraints (and the desire to share memory amongst heterogenous processors like CPU, GPU, and NPU) as opposed to the designated tasks being subsumed by a more general processor. Modern SoCs actually seem to be sprouting more and more specialized units (like video decoders and more recently the NPU) as energy becomes a more important constraint than die space.

the games I really would like to see on a device like this is Halo Master Chief Collection, Borderlands 3 and Uncharted the thieves collection, unfortunately no one tests them
Hey dude, someone mentioned that you get a signiiifcant boost in battery life (like at least 1-2 hours) on the Onexfly at lower TDP when disabling p-cores using Process Lasso and only turning them on one by one as you need more fps to hit a particular fps cap (2 p-cores, 4 e-cores at 10W; 3 p-cores, 5 e-cores at 20W; 4 p-cores, 6-ecores at 30W+). Apparently, he was able to get 8 hours running Dead Cells with just the e-cores (no p-cores) at 15W, 50% brightness, 0% audio, vsync on, no sleep. If this is true, then you'd be the first reviewer to showcase it on YT. Is this something you can test with these new Strix Point handhelds? I would presume this wouldn't work in a game like Cyberpunk that eats all cores you can throw at it, but for smaller games like Dead Cells that can only utilize a few cores, I think there's merit to this hypothesis.
Was hoping for a doubling of the battery + a Linar Lake variant. Kinda disappointed that GPD didnt at least get a bigger battery to match the Ally X. Would be nice if they had at least made a battery case :-/
This is what ive always dreamed off by someone who was more on its nintendo ds or gba and never really trusted my phone and prefer my pc since im a software engineer. but now im too poor to afford it because i messed up. and to be completely honest i always thought this company would never release something that felt so premium by just looking at it makes my old memories off all those gadgets my dad bought me and stuff. i miss it.
I would love to have something like this as a pilot. For now, I think it’s still a little short on performance compared to my g16, but add a better display, 1080 OLED with VRR and lower the price maybe 15% and they would have a very nice product.
In future videos, could you please include game stats at max wattage for performance gain reference? I know this is intended to be a portable handheld, so trying to find the sweet spot for battery life is important, but I'd like to see how much is gained when battery isn't a factor. Thanks!
The biggest issue with handhelds seems to be cooling.. most at this price point can’t even get the full use out of the processors because they’re thermal throttling. This might be the only form factor that can allow for sufficient cooling.
Thank you for not using frame gen You can feel when its on and Its annoying to determine if the card is too weak to get playable and artificially inflating numbers I would prefer you show a before and after frame gen otherwise its bigger numbers for worse feeling experience
Really glad GPD is keeping this form factor alive. I have a 2023 WinMax and it is a great little Windows gaming machine. The fact that it has a trackpad and keyboard built in IMHO makes for a much better Windows experience compared to something like the ROG Ally and trying to fiddle with touch or even using the thumbstick as a mouse. A little disappointed by the screen though. Freesync is really nice (and I hope it becomes the norm for these devices) but going from 16:10 to 16:9 is a huge miss for me. Since I use mine as an emulation machine, the 16:10 display does wonders for old 4:3 games. Also this thing seems to be back to having a much bigger bezel than the 2023 version (looking at mine as I type this). If I was going to upgrade, would like to see an AMOLED screen as well.
The growth and progress with the handheld market are remarkable. I think it is premature for PlayStation and Xbox to release handheld consoles. I'd rather they wait until the APUs can offer 1080p 120fps with Ray Tracing at 5W. I'm also hoping that in the not so distant future, we'll be able to include a 99.9 Whr battery and a power efficient VRR OLED screen. The pricing and performance of handhelds of today make this type of gaming niche. If you look back at the past 5 years, it is easy to appreciate how far we have come but also how long it takes. Kudos to AMD for spearheading the APU development for handhelds. I'm glad Intel is finally catching up, Lunar Lake gives me hope for anetter things ahead. GPD are the real OGs in handheld PC gaming. Their foresight of the future is still very valid.

Crazy how far we come in had one of these years ago and all I could play were like emulators and games at sub 40fps
This thing is something out of my childhood fantasy, a pocket PC gaming device! I'm too old and busy to utilise it fully! 😢
Let's see some emulation performance!
In a few years I'll get one of these for cheaper on eBay. Really have always wanted a good netbook evolution
Great video! Of all the handhelds out now, this is definitely at the top of my list! Would love to see 3ds, Wii U and Switch emulation!
Mannn this would've been perfect if they packed in a 99.99 wh battery.
...if they got the space for it...
I don't think it's large enough to have a battery anywhere close to that size.
It’d be like 3 inches thick lol
@@CyanoTex I'd take double the thickness. I would still be able to fit it in my pockets.
+ on the bigger battery (doesnt have to be 99wh), I don't care much about a bit more thickness... aaaand Oculink pleeease!
Phenomenal first impressions ETA! I'm seriously considering getting one of these because your vid. I have an old GPD XD Plus that I found and dusted off today, but discovered it's only running Android 7, and I can't figure out if there's a way to update it to a newer Android version, so I don't know :(
this is genuinely impressive. on a screen this small its hard to really tell that its FSR, and 100fps is nice. honestly i doubt i even notice the difference in gameplay between this device and my desktop pc and i have a 3060ti.
A small screen on the front to send texts and make calls to use as phone without opening it would be the perfect device.
It's great that this thing will fit in your pocket, because it will take your entire wallet to buy it 😂😂
Happy New Year everyone!
How tf a such small thing can run cyberpunk holy moly, we're really in the future
I've never seen anything like this before! I really like this!
Really? They've been making these for years.
@@Nickbaldeagle02 I had no idea. So cool!
Pretty sweet little device, I'll probably never own one, but I do like it. 👍
REQUEST : When you do the full review, please do an LLM test showing tokens per second (Ollama shows TPS) while plugged in to wall power. Thank you!!!! Always a great job here.
I love your channel 🎉 happy new year!
Would love this concept with some more affordable specs. Its never gonna be high end gaming aways, might aswell make a budget version / chromebook-esc for some older games and additional computer work.
brother your videos are great when it come to not owning but getting all the feel for the item, gj bro coming at ya from aussie
that keyboard will help so much for mmos, not just talking but skills!@
nah its just for chat. Pressing wasd+skills with this is clunky af
I need this the temps and performance is a huge jump from the 8840u
AI 9 370 isn't in the link. It's the 8840U which might as well be an Rog Ally. Did they sell out or something?!?
their new IGG page probably isn't set up yet
I'm impatient!
I like GPD products because they are different and I probably would buy one if they made this device with German Qwertz layout.. (I know there are stickers etc.. but it's not the same).
I had the GPD Mini and it was a great device fun to use if your hands aren't to big but it's very hard to use if you have to change the language over and over again when using it😅
By the way great review like always top tier content 👍🏻
Looks Sick by the Power Button Tho .............
That is cool device and impressive gaming performance!
What I'm waiting for is this R8060s, it will be a gun.
For that price, I'd expect a 6 hr playtime 😅❤
Wake me when they start putting OLED VRR in these things. I know "tech isnt there, asus is first is laptops, ect".
Good video as always prime 👍🏻
Fr just got a Samsung odyssey OLED w vr as my first oled besides my switch and it really ruins every other screen for you
@@jaybee-f9x real i got the g6 oled and it replaced my tv
@@jaybee-f9x yeah, my LG tv with gsync is amazing. I've even test drove the G14 and G16 2024 models. The 240 Hz gsync on the G16 is insane
@@jaybee-f9x until you notice the OLED VRR flicker ;) its not a solved issue at all
@@pkilljoy5797 haven’t had a single problem with it! It’s not the smart version though and only 144hz, most of the problems with the odyssey are with the smart 240hz version
I have the original 2023 with oculink and i love it!
Once they released one with OLED and bring Oculink back, ill probably get it
i would love to see gpd upscale this to a 8in screen a 50wh battery maby bigger cooling. change as little as possible aside the bigger screen battery and cooling. just to have the 8in screen a extra 5wh on the battery and run quieter would mean so much.
Totally agree!
The reason it's called the mini is the small size
I had the 2023 version and ended up returning it because of how hot it would get when playing at even just a 15 watt tdp. Hows the heat and fan noise with this one
Cool, another mini pc.
Happy new year everybody!🎉
They should have put OLED option on here
Until I see people say it, I realize there is very little OLED options. There must be a reason.
@@jar768jake price.
@@420beffjezos Panel. Dont exist vrr oled panel with this size factor
I think VRR is more important, which they've included. Oleds are expensive as well
I understand the need for limiting the tdp but showing the maximum performance with max tdp (when docked) should be a must in your benchmarks.
This thing is actually a beast
takes me back to the old Logitech kids PC's
the games I really would like to see on a device like this is Halo Master Chief Collection, Borderlands 3 and Uncharted the thieves collection, unfortunately no one tests them
I have the 2024 model and I love it.
I'm thinking about selling it and upgrading to the 2025, but I'm not sure yet.
Me: "oh neat"
*Checks Amazon: 1,736*
Me: "oh not neat"
Bet it would keep my tent warm....The question is how many twigs do i have to mine to get one....Cheers Eta
looking forward to this having a pen support for drawing on the go
Nice. Dual sim card holder would of been a killer build🎉
Would have. Would've.
you always have good choices in games when your showcasing lol
Ill wait for the price to drop in half before i buy, this looks legit though. I have an old GPD gaming handheld. It was great with mobile apps
I really love this form factor 😍
I wish Steam/Asus/Lenovo/MSI/others would launch a similar product with a bigger battery or at a lower price.
This is what ive always dreamed off by someone who was more on its nintendo ds or gba and never really trusted my phone and prefer my pc since im a software engineer. but now im too poor to afford it because i messed up. and to be completely honest i always thought this company would never release something that felt so premium by just looking at it makes my old memories off all those gadgets my dad bought me and stuff. i miss it.
Happy new year! First!! Awesome
I'm an avid PCVR player.... I want this for reasons.
I have a legion 7i 2020 4070 white looks like this is going to be its companion ❤️ sure buy release this immediately
I would love to have something like this as a pilot. For now, I think it’s still a little short on performance compared to my g16, but add a better display, 1080 OLED with VRR and lower the price maybe 15% and they would have a very nice product.
I want to travel, so this would be perfect for downsizing and using it for work!
Would be amazing if u can do some software testing. Like photoshop /after effects and blender please!
In future videos, could you please include game stats at max wattage for performance gain reference? I know this is intended to be a portable handheld, so trying to find the sweet spot for battery life is important, but I'd like to see how much is gained when battery isn't a factor. Thanks!
The lack of the Oculink is a backwards step especially if you have a use case to plug it into a dock.
The biggest issue with handhelds seems to be cooling.. most at this price point can’t even get the full use out of the processors because they’re thermal throttling. This might be the only form factor that can allow for sufficient cooling.
Damned my Presbyopia, would love to have one of these
Hows the cooling on this thing. I have the 2023 model and that one could get very hot in the hand at 15W in extended play
I just love it wish i could buy it
Thank you for not using frame gen
You can feel when its on and Its annoying to determine if the card is too weak to get playable and artificially inflating numbers
I would prefer you show a before and after frame gen otherwise its bigger numbers for worse feeling experience
sweet. how about temps in hand ?
i wish they had a webcam so you could do the family video chat
That new msi claw the only beast I want but with a oled screen😜
Running games on ultra with the oled screen homyGawd😎
