    There is a hidden driver's control panel located underneath the white cover on the far left at 2:08

      Ahh cool! Thats a similar operating model to the Docklands Light Rail then, allowing a driver to manually take over if needed.

    The Chatswood to Sydenham line will open about February 2023. It will be new and goes through the CBD. They’ll continue on until all is opened in 2024. It’s great as it’s just not far from us in North West Sydney

    My favourite metro seat is the window. The Sydney metro truly is a metro

    They've got big plans for the Metro including some lines to go into areas which are currently only servered by buses. Nothing's approved yet but there's plans/an idea to build a line out to Maroubra. Also I think aventually the current line that's in operation will link up with the new line they're building for the new Western Sydney Airport. In 50 years time Sydney Metro will dominate Sydney and transform it!

    So when is your train coming under the Sydney harbor from Chatswood, thorough the Sydney City to Sydneham and past my place on the Bankstown line huh? : )

      It won’t ne open to the public until 2024 As I understand track laying is still not yet complete between Sydenham and Chatswood

      @@williamwalker8106 I don't know what the hell you are talking about. Yes It will open to the public in 2024. I am watching the progress and its up to date. The project it is going well ahead as it should be, and following the project plan set out by the NSW Government said it is in the same time frame.

      For it to be 'my' train, I'd better start a Patreon account 🤣. No YT partner program revenue yet and the transport planner wages aren't *quite* that generous!

    The sound of this metro noise of the trains and voice over style seems similar to Singapore for sure. Automated systems make sense and the headways can be shorter along a line. For far too long have many Sydney railway stations been used as a "metro" which it was not designed for. Thanks for this video.

      Good to see someone else who understands the principles of network design, not just fanning over old Trains that don't even tell you where the next stop is!

      ....and now we have metro trains on outer suburban lines, and double-deck commuter trains on inner city high density lines. Design genius!!

    This was actually new to Sydney when the chatswood metro line was first announced & the train line was converted to the metro standards & the metro cars was built by Alstom from India.& had delivered them to Sydney.& we ll be seeing more in the future as the two new metro lines are under construction.
    & so I have caught these many times & weren't that bad as they run every 10 minutes to chatswood & tallawong in each direction.

    How about coming south to Melbourne, so much going on, Metro Tunnel, Suburban Rail Loop to name a few of the big infrastructure spend happening down here.

    I have no problems with Metro style trains as long as the distance is short. The lack of seating is a problem but I understand that it is all about getting on and off fast but in that respect I see these as cattle cars and getting the said cattle on and off as fast as possible is the name of this new game. Imagine standing & holding on to one of those dangly things in peak hour for up to an hour each way.
    Will those on the metro lines feel as if they are second rate commuters compared to the comfort offered to those who ride on the existing older heavy rail?

    • @Woodland26
      @Woodland26 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      have you even used the metro service? Most of the time I can get a seat, not that I have to as I am perfectly happy to stand and let those who need sitting down. 20 minutes on Metro goes a long way. I typically travel 3-4 stops which is 10 minutes. The service is so frequent that one is unlikely to find a pack up train during the peak. I would say compared to the heavy rail the metro is whole generation ahead.

      The two trains serve two distinctly different roles, and I think Metro will be great especially when it is extended into and through Sydney CBD. I travelled a lot on the London Underground in 2018 and Singapore MRT in 2019 and for the frequent stops, short to medium distance model, I would pick a metro train over a commuter double decker much more frequently. The deckers are great for longer distance, express or limited stops services, like the Intercity services, and outer suburban runs.

      I prefer the Metro compared to the way slower heavy rail. I don't mind standing. Less than 15 minutes from Chatswood to the CBD in comparison to heavy rail is a big win.

    Have you reviewed all the trains in Sydney? If you did then can you do the ranking from your least favourite to your most favourite then which city are you planning to review trains in next

    Tis a fine metro, but sure tis no Tangara, English

    • @TalkingPlanning

      The Tangara is probably envious of how fresh, clean and tidy the Metro trains are though!

    I have no problem with the planned Metro from Chatswood through to its southern end. Stations in that section are close together, and individual journeys short. The difficulty is that the Metro is barely suitable for the Chatswood to Epping section and entirely inappropriate for the section from there to Tallawong. The seats aren't very comfortable at the best of times, and the longitudinal layout makes them worse. You rock backwards when accelerating and forwards on braking with little to help you keep still. Much of the time, the heads of those sitting is at an unsuitable level compared to the bodies of those standing. Finally, the trains are much noisier than the double-deck stock currently used for the rest of the network. So some positive marks for the line south from Chatswood, but lots of negative points for the rest of the journey.

    It's an empty train line even on a holiday weekend... Look on you tube at how it was with the old line. This is a failed rail line. And they will kill the Inner West line with it! The government at the time needs to show what directive done this.

    • @synchromystici5m
      @synchromystici5m 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Isn't it fairly empty because only the northern section of the line is open?

    • @TalkingPlanning
      @TalkingPlanning  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The link through the CBD will make a big difference to through connectivity. But perhaps more importantly, the long term benefits of a more frequent connection cod Sydney's North West should be come more apparent as more people choose to call the area home.
