  • One of our Jaboticaba trees was knocked over by Hurricane Irma last year. We propped it up after the storm and it was the first Jaboticaba tree to put out flowers this year. But the fruit never fully developed. Chris decided to trim the tree back now so it will have maximum time to recover and hopefully produce well in 2019!
    In this video, Chris talks about trimming this Jaboticaba tree and shows you how to do it.

    jaboticaba needs sun in the branches, but cut by cut does not work, I have in the pot here in Brazil, its main trunk is very low, the primary forks are very divided, and do not continue the way to the third, it is high but very thin at the top, the main trunk must be cut at the first pruning with 60cm for the secondary ones, and only in the third ones will they create smaller branches for leaves, you want trunk, not leaf, more fruit, bigger trunk needs to be.
    see about the fruit bowl, open shape or bowl shape, the paths of the trunks have many thieves that draw energy ...
    sorry for english;}

    Looks like a great time to try an air layer. Choose a limb that is iffy, and give it a shot .:)

      Good Idea! I'll try to air layer soon and try one or two Jaboticaba while I'm at it.

    But doesn’t the tree need the leaves to feed it?
