My dad made a cameo in his video at 1:04 ! (Guy with the gray hair). He used to work at Mee Sums in Fall River as a dishwasher in the 70s. Glad to see that Fall River’s rich history is still alive and relevant to this day!
I know Regina, have been going there for years....great people...once when my daughter was very young, she forgot a stuffed animal in the restaurant. The next time we went in (about a month or so) Regina handed it to her...my daughter was so happy...this is the kind of people at Mee Sums. Great food, even greater people.

I absolutely LOVE the way that restaurant looks, the wood paneling, the decor, everything about it. Those swinging kitchen doors with the diamond windows. I would hang out in a place like that all the time...
The ingredients are so simple. Ordered buns, package crispy noodles and just the gravy and veggies. How Americans love their hamburgers . The cash just keep flowing in. Such a good business.
01001011 Hey man, you’re hating on carbs for no reason. There’s cultures that literally eat pasta and noodles as their source of intake. You’re talking about some myth that’s associated with overrating and not taking care of your health. You’re obviously not educated on anything diet and food related.
my grandmother was born & raised in fall river so when i was a child my grandparents & i would drive to fall river from winthrop on the weekends to get these. we would eat at the restaurant then we would get about 10 of them to take home with us. when we moved to florida my grandmother started to make her own. i could eat these everyday they’re that good!
"I don't count my customers as customers, they are more like my friends and family." this exact words is the one i heard from a Filipina when i'm eating on her restaurant. that's lovely.
In the Philippines we eat our noodles (pancit Canton or any other pancit) with our local bread called pan de sal. Sometimes we put the pancit inside it.
I grew up on this stuff! My mom is from Fall River and she would have the noodles and gravy mix delivered out here to California at least a few times a year. We would get a ton of meals out of it and every single time it felt like a treat. I haven't had it since she passed away last year but I can still taste it like I had it yesterday. It's such a specific thing that not many people know about so seeing it pop up on here really made my day. I'm glad to see that the place is still doing good business.
Lived in Boston Area all my life and this is the first time i heard of Chow mein sandwhich. Definitely the number one thing i will try when i head south!
Chinese food has over a one hundred year history here in the US. The chow mein sandwich of Fall River reflects how the Chinese catered to the poor, factory, immigrant workers during the industrial era. Many were from Poland, Canada, Italy, Ireland, Portugal, etc. This is a regional favorite, that reflects a tradition of the working class immigrant.
Actually, there's such thing that's a little similar to chow mein sandwich (basically fried noodles sandwiched between two sesame seed buns). Yakisoba-pan from Japan is one of them, except the bun itself is a hotdog bun.
you could get it at basically any chinese restaurant without the bread. crispy fried noodles, gravy with vegetables, pork or beef, one of the best things you’ll ever eat
PIERRE tell me about it as an Asian it’s taste disgusting and gross it’s like prison food and people love it and I will never eat that again I was force to try it
I agree completely. This doesn’t look appealing. It’s just a carb sandwich. No protein or other nutrients either. I’ll be willing to try the chow mein separately as long as there’s SOME meat, bok choy and shiitake mushrooms.
Oooooh ok. If we take away the buns, it’s essentially pan fried noodles. And since the local people eat with forks and spoons instead of chop sticks, they used short bits of noodles instead of long noodles. The version of this this that I know almost looks like birds nest.
I thought I invented this when I got high with panda Express leftovers
Lmfao
Panda Express insults me
🤣🤣🤣😭
someone else got high before you
Hah I like this guy

It's American style. I do love this
It's kinda interesting she has a Chinese-Boston accent... especially when she says "saandwich".
That's how us Fall Riva people talk 😊
Parker's NBA Videos it be like that
Matt Damon
I was thinking this myself. She has a real unique fusion of accent's, its pretty tight

1:02 Just imagine all the confused Chinese faces while watching this
You're right i was so fucking confused as a chinese since ive never ever saw this before in my whole life

Title should be Chow mien with side of roll.
Its not a roll its a bun
Carb lovers in Japan have something too: Yakisoba-pan, or yakisoba on top of bread, so no need to feel alone
"I don't count my customers as customers, they are more like my friends and family."
this exact words is the one i heard from a Filipina when i'm eating on her restaurant. that's lovely.
Oh my god, I'm speechless...
As drunk food this is fine but as a normal meal....?
Charlie ZzZ so many carbs
Mate, it's an extremely popular food in Japan
It’s a culture thing
Just stay drunk. Problem solved.
I had worse in the place i worked at

Not too sure about this tbh....but then again I say that about a lot of food then try it and realise that I love it! 😂
Lived in Boston Area all my life and this is the first time i heard of Chow mein sandwhich. Definitely the number one thing i will try when i head south!
This screams struggle. The Revolution is real
Drinking game :
Every time she says chow mein sandwich you drink
I always walk by this place I'm going to have to go there later.

I remember a place in Fall River called China Garden that had the most bomb Chow mein sandwiches
I think I've just found my perfect hungover go to now...
Reminds me of Yakisoba-pun in Japan.
Was eating them in Brooklyn, NY 50 years ago.
I like the way she says sandwich 🥪
In Trinidad and Tobago a chow mein sandwich isn't crispy and has veggies !! but its really good just served with soy . no gravy . one of my favs
That's lo mein noodles.. so not the same thing.
@@dfbess here they use lomein noodles for everything . its not very rich island
Its so good!
We don't have this on Florida!!! 😞 definitely a back home thing
I just love America, It is the greatest country on Earth Period.

Coney island brooklyn and woolworths counter used to have this but they used a sweet bun
It looks good.. I'm going to have to try it some day
Looks good.
Answering the old age question, is chow mein a sandwich?
Technically no since there is no meat, i think thats the original definition
Let's talk about that
In this case yes but normally no.
How very wholesome!
I love the way she says sandwich
THAT'S HOW DIFFERENT CULTURES UNITE!!!
She has a unique Chinese / Boston accent.
It's crazy seeing a food I grew up with on a Great Big Story. Chow mein sandwiches are amazing!
Are they really.....?
@@kimchi8022
Probably not
I’m live like 10 minutes away from this place
Go asap
I'm even closer, but I have never been... I will have to try it now... I always get take out from Sun China...

😭
If i ever go to Fall River, ima going to try the McDonalds next to Mee Sum. It's gotta be really good stay open next to it!
Yeah I'd totally be up for this
I wonder what is the calorie content? Chow Mein sandwich is the same as the seafood lobster sauce pour over crispy pan fry egg noodle.
All those effing CARBS
Her accent is an amazing combination :D
Ah yes anything that comes to america turns to this
It looks like how to basic is trying to make a sandwich at 0:04

It’s called chao mein because the Chinese word (糙面)(but it’s pinyin is cáo miàn)(fried noodle)
very nice very simple
I'd try it just because of the gravy & with low expectations haha

I guess you guys haven't heard of the pancit bihon sandwich then
So true
You know dude at 1:39 was hurting real bad, it's so painful to slam your fingers like that against doors! 😂
Great job Regina xo
Yum
So now Fall River has the chow mein sandwich, as well as Lizzie Borden for notoriety.
So it's basically gravied fried noodles sandwiched between 2 hamburger buns? Ok...... It's simple to make and messy though.
That looks delicious
if westerners are reading chow mein as chow mein, here's a word that make u pronounce chow mein easily
chao mian
Is this Keto-friendly? I'm really not sure.
Definitely
@O h OK thanks, I trust you.
I think it is
Looks good damn
Fall River accent is diff from B-town. ..if you're from there you know.
Nice to see that Fall River has some good things going on
Second only to their famous French fries on a hot dog bun
At 1:10 I thought he missed the pan lol
almost identical to Japanese's "yakisoba pan"

Kinda like chop suey with bun😋
Not gonna lie, that looks so damn delicious...
That's interesting, maybe I should try that out :)
I wonder how it is now during the pandemic
I luvvv Chowmein.
No lie, this looks gross. I’m an Asian American and I appreciate the mixing of two cultures but damn this ain’t it. Just my opinion don’t crucify me.
