I think it would be interesting to mention the Master System port made by TecToy of this game, despite having a better field of view the game has worse graphics, is slower and some glitches. TecToy was so desperate to keep the Master System in Brazil that they ported it anyway just to keep the console alive. PS: Funny thing, this came at the same year of Street Fighter 2 and Battletoads fo Master System.
Tec Toy's port of Sonic Blast was pretty lazy, and I have shown concept images to how the game could have looked on Master System if they did more than just convert the palette without fixing any of the colours, and without editing graphics to keep some of the lost detail. No matter what you do, Sonic Blast will still not be a good game at the end of the day, and we all know it. The only reason I desire the SMS version is for completionists' sake, since my goal is to own every official Sonic game on Genesis, Game Gear, Master System, and Saturn.

While the wider field of view seems nice, that pro turns into a con when you realize that it was slapped on, as the game was not optimized for it, leading to graphical artifacts and glitches. And this only applies to the stages themselves, as everything else was left in a tiny box. Apart from that, the game's colour palette is weaker (though it can't be helped due to hardware limitations), and the ROM is so large that it doesn't even run on early Master System models! This port is definitely not worth the rarity and high cost.
The problems with Sonic Blast become excruciatingly noticeable when playing the game on TV. I played it via Sonic Mega Collection Plus 16 years ago, and the graphics look more like claymation than 3D. It also represents a desperate attempt by Sega to make a Game Gear title that coincided with the release of Sonic 3D Blast/Sonic 3D: Flicky's Island.
I also like how Sonic Blast and G-Sonic (Japanese and English versions) are the same rom, they change title screen on different regional Game Gear system, even if it’s region free they still have differences in hardware for some reason. I also like how you got the US version cartridge and not European. :)
I'm really feeling bad that somehow i got fascinated with *THIS* when i knew about his existence in the internet many years ago. Maybe it was for the novelty (for me) of seeing prerendered sprites in a 8bit handheld (although it definitely looks terrible looking at it now).

(2) Yellow Desert Zone: A desert area with a lil bit of Ruins added in. (3) Pink Parade Zone: The first of 2 new levels, this one is a Casino level set at night. (4) Cyan Frost Zone: A cold looking City, Frozen in Time. (5) Blue Marine Zone: A underwater level that will have some Redemption. (6) Red Volcano Zone: A volcanic Fortress, where flames rise. (7) Silver Castle Zone: The final area is upon your very eyes, Eggman, you're going down! (EX) The Final Battle: Eggman is ready to beat your hedgehog/Echidna Butt, besides he created this Machine with the help of Eggatha Omlette Robotnik, the new villan who will Replace Eggman when you pick knuckles. This fan remake will be the Defenitive version to play Sonic blast because it will look more Prettier than the Game Gear Original.

if you REALLY want to fight the bonus final boss... and if ya have a copy of sonic gems collection, just unlock the final boss demo to play there, since it'd allow you to skip the dumb emerald quest fully, and get right into the action! still, if there's one thing sonic blast did right... it's that we FINALLY can fight robotnik more than once in a gamegear game!

Still kind of saddens me that Knuckles was, frankly, about as useful as a screen door on a submarine in this game. Seeing as everything's clearly been designed with Sonic in mind, there's nowhere he can go and nothing he can do that the latter can't (and is in fact a lot _harder_ to play with in certain circumstances, especially the boss battles), and what he _can_ do (the gliding especially, given that he can't even hurt regular enemies with it any more) got nerfed into the ground. It's like, Knuckles is there (which is nice), but besides liking him a lot as a character, why would you ever pick him in this game?

the problem with pre-rendered visuals... well, one of the problems... is that it doesn't play to the strengths of pixel art. which is tailoring each pixel with intent. pre rendered visuals is just awful looking scaled visuals, and therefore looks awful in low resolution. invariably. also 90's cgi is so bad it wouldn't look good even if it was in 4k.

That's only true for the American manual. The Japanese version of Tails' Adventure states that the game takes place before Sonic 2.

It's literally the worst level in the game and I quit playing the whole game because of it.
I remember getting this game on my 3ds and actually completing it in one day after getting it. The ice level was hard though.

It's wild that these graphics looked amazing to me when it came out. Prerendered visuals were such a fad back then, and they've aged like milk.

Only good things I have to say about this game is you get to play as Knuckles finally on the Game Gear, and the special zones are decent.
