This is the Guitar Lesson I put together for Goo Goo Dolls Name. This song is in an alternate tuning DAEAAE, sounds great and is easy to play. In this lesson I go through the Guitar Chords, The Song Layout, The exact notes, etc. Let me know what you think! - เพลง
I love it. I have been a huge fan of The Good Goo Dolls for over 20 years now and the song name has so much sentimental value for me. This is the first time I have seen the instructional video for it that is very accurate. Great Job. And thank you for that.
Thank you for this lesson. Your tuning, chords and picking are right on the money. I've looked everywhere for this tab too, thank you for sharing all your hard work. This lesson is fantastic. I can't thank you enough.
Correct tuning is D A E A E E. "Both the top strings are high E strings. Whenever I tried tuning a regular B string up to E, it would pop. It was really tough on the tension. I've seen guys play "Name" with regular tuning. It doesn't sound right." -- John Rzeznik, Guitar World
Exactly. There's basically no Goo Goo Dolls songs in standard tuning. Like, Slide is D#, G#, D#, G#, G#, D#. It's wild shit. And he most likely does use 2 E strings at the top, because the B string very often will pop if tuned that high. Depends on gauge. But if you watch live acoustic performances this is what he plays.
@@jonny-b4954 In his acoustic session thing in 2013 when he played Iris, I think you can see on his guitar that he actually didn't even have the top two strings on at all. He only had four
@@NickTasy Oh yeah? I saw a video of the guy I think who recorded it in studio with him, or was the roadie who prepared his guitars for shows or something, and he mentioned he would use 2 - E strings. The song does seem like it uses them to me. It helps produce that full sound. Maybe he broke them trying to tune it fast? Hahah
Easy to watch and learn. Awesome song and well instructed for a beginner guitar player like me who plays with the left hand. 👍
this is the first song ive ever tried to learn and its going pretty good, guess that makes you a great teacher, thanks, danette
Thank you so much! This is such an awesome tutorial, and so helpful!! It sounds really great. Seriously, thank you. Thank you!!
sounds like Owen Wilson is teaching me how to play guitar sweet
Oh shittttt 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Wow.
Whoww
WOW
Wooooaw, you’re right!
It’s all about how john tuned his guitar. Seen him perform live in Toronto couple years ago..was the best version I’ve ever heard.
I learned a really hard way to play this song, but this is so much better the tuning is right on... Thanks man
charles hart No problem Charles! Thanks for watching my man!
Wow.. Thanks so much.. I teach guitar and a student wanted to learn this song. I can play anything the first time I hear it but this time I got lazy and found you! Thanks for saving me alot of time.
Thank you for doing this and your teaching technique is great. Such a great song. I've subscribed to your chanel .
Your lessons have really helped me. Thank you.
Beautiful! That's an awesome sound!!!
Great Lesson! Thanks for uploading that really helped!
Perfect, dude!!! Yes, lots of tab out there for this song is wrong! You play this song perfectly! What a great sound!
Finally someone playing it correctly. Thank you dude! I have tried many tabs of this song and they always end up a bit off. Yes, the capo is easier, but it doesn't get all the notes right. It'll be close but not correct.
thank you dude ! Awesome tutorial. Loved it
No problem! Happy to help ya Alexander! :)
That guitar sounds heavenly!
Thanks. I felt a comfortable casual vibe from you. I'm getting it.....practice makes perfect.....ish😆
Thank you. This is great.
complex and simple at the same time! cool song
Nothing worse than incorrect tabs but this is very well done. The tuning is spot on, and instruction was very understandable. I had some new strings on so tuning up the G string was no problem. As far as the name of that tuning, it is an open Dsus2 tuning. Thanks for the lesson.
Thanks for this! Props to you and Brent!
sounds really good!!!
I FEEL ALVAREZ GUITARS ARE AN UNSUNG UNDERDOG IN THE GUITAR WORLD ??
MOST OF MINE ( ALL 60 ) SOUND JUST AS GOOD AS YOURS, GREAT !! THANKX 4 THE VIDEO
This is wonderful. How do you tune the strings to DAE AAE? Please and thank you.
Absolutely spot on! The only difference I have seen is that the B (2nd) string is replaced with another E (1st) but then we are definitely talking a separate guitar. Are there other songs by Goo Goo Dolls that use this tuning, or something close?
I don't understand how this got ANY thumbs down! Great tutorial
Sounds good!!!
JAMES SCOTT NICHOLSON, ONTARIO, CANADA 🇨🇦 I LEARNED A TRICK FOR COLD HANDS,WHEN I WAS TOLD IT I LAUGHED AT MYSELF...RUN YOUR HANDS UNDER WARM WATER FOR 5MINUTES!!! WHEN I HEARD THAT I THOUGHT OF ALL THE TIMES,I WOULD SPEND PRACTICING TO GET READY TO PLAY???THE THINGS WE MISS SO SIMPLY IN LIFE...ONE ROCKER TO ANOTHER...GREAT TEACHING...
Do you have a tutorial of how's it going to be by Third Eye Blind if not could you teach us how to play it please using a capo on the 3rd fret? Thanks
Love Alvarez guitars
Sound is spot on to me thanks. Would like to hear the entire song played at first though
That's how the song is played live. I've seen them from the front row 3x. They usually have another guitar player playing in standard tuning. Walking down from G
For those who have string snapping problems, slowly tune the string up. This helped me a lot and saved money from buying strings.
At least I've heard a few people say that this tuning has snapped strings.
5:00 listen to this first, then start from the beginning ☺
Cool, thanks for the vid. Would be great if you added you playing through it all not stopping at the end
Perfect tutorial. Did you do one for the solo??
Do you think you can try making a video tutorial on one of their new songs, "Over and Over?"
Appreciate this so much! I was stuck.
Just could not get it to where it needed to be until now. This helps out alot!!!!!
Ahhh metal...It cannot sound this good with Nylon...And wow, you're really good at teaching..I actually just heard this song and instantly wanna know how to play it! Thanks man!! :)
THANK YOU!!
Nice lesson. Thanks
What model Alvarez is that?
I have that same guitar. Had it for 15 years
I just overshot the tuning (dggdC) and put a capo on the second fret. No risk of snapping a string that way.
What's the website he said he got the tabs from? I couldn't understand.
In the section with the backward power chord at like 6 mins. You say Ring finger on 7th fret A string, pointer finger on 5th fret D string and hammer on with pinky on 7th fret D string... I think what you are playing is not that ... Could you please check and let me know. I think pointer finger goes on E string with according to this tuning😜 think you said D string as in standard tuning D which would then be correct ...still confused me. But great lesson dude. Thank you so much. It's sounding great🤘 This is one of my all the me fav songs
Save your strings and use a capo on 1!
Is my fourth a string suppose be loose
Thanks! :)
Skip to 2:59 for the lesson
I play it tuned to DAEAEE. I think it sounds better actually
chadwick0091 Cool! I'll try it ;)
@@guitarmadeez i think so too
I know this is 5 years later, but I believe that's how the song is supposed to be played. You just run the high risk of blowing out your b string (trying to tune up to e), so for anyone else reading this, be advised.
Omnitrx thanks for the tip!
@@IStarryZz You’re absolutely correct. It’s usually recommended to replace the B string with a high E string. Tuning to A is a compromise so you can avoid changing strings - the 2nd and 3rd strings are identically tuned to the same A. Whereas, ideally, the 1st and 2nd strings are identically tuned to the same E.
To test this, use the A tuning. The switch between strumming the 1st and 2nd strings open and then with the 1st string open and 7th feet of the 2nd string (E). The latter matches the song and sounds better.
Anyone know of any versions in standard tuning?
Where or what link is that solo? Thanks.
That Gibson sounds great
whats the strum pattern for the chorus?
Is it DAEAAE (like you said) or DAEAEE as wikipedia states it to be?
Any chance you have made the tab for this yet?
i love how u explain everything but im going to honestly say everything sounded right expect the verse.... agree with sliding down from 7,6,5,4,2, open and then the slide, but the second/ last part of that sounds funny???
Broke the g string tuning for this bad boy
Your best bet is to probably just use thicker strings where normally you'd use thinner ones
what’s the strum pattern for the chorus? i’m struggling
Great Playing, thank you for taking the time to do this. Also what model is your guitar and how much if I may ask?
Anthony Hoffpauir This one is an Alvarez Acoustic... the model number got washed off the inside because my humidifier had a leak but I paid about $200 about 10 years ago. www.guitarmadeez.com/gearthatiuse.pdf
***** Well I love that guitar.. awesome man.. ever sell it let me know
Just some friendly advice...ALWAYS start a video like this by playing the song. 99.99% of people are going to decide whether or not to continue watching based on what happens in the first 2 seconds. As soon as I heard you say "Ok so this is...", I started scrubbing through the video looking for the song. Still never found it btw. On to the next lesson!
Sooooooo agree- start with the performance- then the lesson. Almost couldn't get through this with so much talking. Just play the freakin' song already!
yjmsrv patience is a virtue. The video is made with "so much talking" because some might need that explaining and not pick up as quickly as you.
So true!
The best way to learn. Go somewhere else then
Disagree. I came to this video specifically because he actually opened with the tuning first, and didn't want to have to go searching for it. Don't care at all if a performance is done, I can tell if its right or not. Really don't even need the tabs. Just the tuning shortcut. All depends on your level I suppose. Not even sure I agree with him on the particulars of the slide and chorus part the slide sounds better to me if I just hold a 1-3 and slide up 4 times instead of doing a hammer on... but I still think this video is better than the rest.
Thank you so mush im an old guy never could figure out why i could not play this right it was the tuneing lol.
Ha! No worries. Only as old as you feel ;) keep rockin’ and glad you found my videos :)
Na na naa naiiiaa na na naa naaiiee..that sting sound Irish tunable mourn
agreed
What guitar are you playing in this?
so I broke 2 of my strings trying to tune it to DAEAAE. what am I missing here?
when is the solo part coming? its been 4 years
He already posted it
Ouch waited 4 years and it was already out
@@guanqiaowang7586 ikr 😂
@@guanqiaowang7586 Hello there random stranger who looked up a Goo Goo Doll tutorial the same day I did!
Hope you have a good day, friend.
It’s been 84 years...
If you don’t want to break your G string, tune everything lower and use a capo to be in the correct key. Have fun everybody
Which fret do I put my capo on? I’m verrryy new to guitar so idk if that’s the correct terminology I’m sorry in advance 😂
And there is a song that almost same tuning of this song in Michael Hedges's pieaces.probably the true composer of this song inspired by him
I wish there were close up shots on the chords
Is that an Alvarez AD66SB?
My humidifier leaked and washed away the model number unfortunately. It may be - www.guitarmadeez.com/gearthatiuse.pdf
Broke my G string. Awesome
+Chris Cosens Yeah this one definitely is tough on those strings especially if they're a little older. Sorry my man, get some Elixirs on there. ;) Thanks for watching bro!
+GuitarMadeEZ.com Lol, you warned us. I was turning so slowly and then POP! Damn it!! lol Sounds like an awesome tab, I needed new strings anyway
I think you're supposed to use small gauge or light strings when playing this. I read somewhere that he puts a light gauge string on the last three for this song
try boxer briefs next time
I heard same Daniel...they suggested 10 or 11 gauges, and if I remember correctly he used another high E string for his B. The tuning was a little different as DAEAEE. Whatever works!
Definitely recommend tuning down to DGDGDD, then putting a capo on the second fret.. save yourself a string and a neck.
This lesson was Eons ago, but thanks I appreciate it. I'm actually working on a new one and going to re-tab the song. Thanks Charles!
@@guitarmadeezAwesome! I think I meant CGDGDD lol, still figuring it out. Thanks for the original lesson btw.
@@charlesdjones1 Ha! It's always a process, I get it ;) Of course!
The tuning is what gets me. I think I got out down, but it doesn't sound right on my end. Daeaae ? How do got even tune to that?
Shane Nelson th-cam.com/video/BZ2rQy_TUIk/w-d-xo.html this should help ;)
***** PERFECT! Thanks man! :)
***** aaaand i broke my string on the high a lol. Needed new ones anyways :)
Nice another Alvarez user lol only guitars I use
I'm 10 years late but thanks bro
1:22
Y’all need to give the strumming pattern
Mannnn help! The strumming for the last part!!I cannot get it...
is there any possible way to play this in normal tune?
No thats why they changed chords and the song is so original
Still a Great video. This is the right tuning, stop breaking your strings man...
Tuning!?
1:25 you're welcome
Solo: strum all strings except D, on high a: 2/4 4 4 2 2 0 0 2 4 2 0 2 4 5 4 4/7 7 7 5 5 5/9 9 9 7 7 7/11 12 12 11 12 11 12 11 12/14 14 a bunch of times 17 16 16 16 16 16 17 16 16 16 16 12 a bunch of times then on high e: 12 10 9 7 5 5 7 9 12 10 9 10 9/7 9 7/5 7 5 4 5
If you're worried about breaking strings, heres an easy enough solution: Tune all strings a half step down and use a capo on 1.
Thank you, all the tabs on ultimate guitar are wrong.
Replace your B string with a High E string. Then you won't have any trouble with the tuning. ;)
Dennis Manske Thanks Dennis! I'll try it! :)
The tabs probably didn't sound right because it was originally played in drop d tuning
I didn't even get to try playing the song before my g string popped on me :(
Sounds ok but its really daeaee tuning not daeaae
Nice video but you got the hammer-on, pull-off play at the end of the intro/verse progression wrong imo.
just popped a g string. tutorial over cant afford to play this song, lol.
Dude! Just play the song!
The funny thing about this video is the comment section about the guy talking to much lol. Well it's his videos ppl he can do whatever the fuck he wants lol
HEAR IT!??!
Thanks for the lesson dude! Check out my cover!
its true. DAEAAE is the real tuning of this song
Guys lmao he has a separate video of him playing the cover
