TYPE-MOON could very well make a heavy action multiplatform Punishing: Gray Raven-style game or a Genshin-style adventurous open world game, but nah, all they gotta do is burn all of those massive potentials and invest in an outdated 8-year old game that is making nearly a billion year in a f*cking year and yet still having a doodoo water animations on older Servants.

This is what truly hurts about losing arcades. You're never going to get an arcade perfect experience for some of those games at home. I remember once seeing a Fist of the North Star game that had physical targets inside the cabinet, and as the video played on the monitor, the targets would pop up and you had to actually punch them. You're never going to reasonably get that kind of an experience at home.
It goes without saying that it's a lot more lonely too without a community or other people to socialize with.

    • @AirLancer
      @AirLancer 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

There's also the little things, like the thrill of seeing a cabinet that someone had put quarters in but had to leave, so you hop on and get to play for free.
There's even just the loss of arcade machines in general. That joy of seeing a game you really like in some random place.

I always wished for something like this to be released over here in the states. The idea was pure gold but the execution would be so damn tough. Nothing beats a level of immersion where the game gives you cards so that when you leave, you have a physical representation of your experience with it. Praying for this to not be the end

    • @doogies
      @doogies  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +29

It is actually very important to the experience in a way that is hard to explain, has to be felt

    • @ebering4.039
      @ebering4.039 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Well, my personal explanation would be: Since it is partially gambling like any gacha game you are already happy that you got the characters/items in question but for those games it‘ll only ever be in digital form.
This game however gives you the things you basicly paid real money for, in a physical way.
So it doubles down on the feeling of getting this thing not every other person has....kinda like pulling cards in a TCG.
Also, even if the game will shut down, you get to keep these cards...so you will always have something from it.
That feeling is what makes it special.

Coming from a fgo mobile player thats been following the fgo arcade news since it came out
its cool, everyone thought it was cool and wanted to try it but its only available in japan :(
this kinda lead into alot of salt, it started with arcade getting a lot of costumes, then it was arcade exclusive servants. ONORE ARUCADO became a big meme
I'm sorry to say I think the thing to kill fgo arcade was Nero Draco. I have no proof but its my firm belief that fgo arcade was a massive ad for her, and it was really epic
it started with the story diverging in small ways, romani doesnt exist, then we get to chapter 5 where its actual jerusalem and the templars all leading up to the reveal that arcade was an alternate timeline that draco nero made after seeing the mobile timeline
when she came out it was the biggest onore arcado, alongside noah as an at the time arcade exclusive beast and grand servant
fast forward a year or 2 later, we finally got the fgo arcade collab in mobile which was a sequel to fgo arcade with bits of CCC inside, and it was the best god damn collab. The story was fantastic and we got our own version of Draco nero, the first beast class servant
and yknow what happened after the collab? fgo arcade announced they would no longer be adding new servants.
So again Im so sorry to say, I'm sure it was a really fun game, but it was basically a massive build up to the coolest event in fgo history

The thing that has baffled me about Arcade since launch was why Delightworks/Lasengle chose such a small market to target. Even pre-pandemic, everything I saw about Arcade smelled like it was a lot of resources being spent, and the potential revenue from an arcade machine seems so ridicuously small. And that's before considering the overlap in playerbases between Arcade and Mobile.

As a fellow arcade card game enthusiast (I play SDBH) it was really a bad surprise to see that announcement. FGOA is the game with the most cabinets I've ever seen for a card game, I think only gundam has more cabinets on average on any Arcade in Tokyo. You would think with such popularity the game would strive and not end up like kantai and other arcade card games that didn't receive more support. Hopefully they can use those assets to make something cool for consoles and PC but it's very sad nonetheless for the Arcades community in general (And I 100% agree with you that it's showing the slowly decline of the arcades)

FGO while there are 3 types of attacks it isnt rps type its really 3 actual distinc type of attacks they dont counter anything from enemy they still will do all their stuff regardless of what kind of attack you use. They really are 3 different attacks focused on different things(damage, charging special or increasing chances for critical damage those are the importan aspects of the attacks, its like managing status effects depending on the type of attack you use)

Back in 2009 right when me and my buddies were about to start high school, we all started playing a f2p arena fighter called Lost Saga. We dumped so many hours due to not being able to afford actual games since we weren't the richest kids and were looking for stuff to do when we couldn't get rides to hang out irl. We played that game for about 4 years until it eventually died due to the publisher having issues staying afloat. I really think launching at exactly that time in our lives the perfect storm for an amazing experience and there really couldn't be any modern game that could provide what we had back then.

I remember LawBreakers. Weird hero arena shooter with gamemodes based on some type of CTF and an emphasis on zero G areas, released during the height of hero shooter frenzy. Some people say it died to overwatch but the reality is a bit more nuanced - the game was originally developed and strategized as a free to play game with lootboxes for monetization that would release on PS4 and PC and if it had been released like that it would've probably attracted a decently sized player base. Publisher Nexon (and now you see where this is going) decided right before a PS4 beta that was done like 3 weeks before game release that the game would actually release with a 30 dollar price tag - which with the low amount of content (4 maps, I think 8 classes) was difficult to justify and the steep skill curve would kill off any prospective newbies. Oh, and it still had lootboxes.
Whether or not you like Cliff Bleszinski (creator of the game) I'm just sad that the idea didn't take off because it was the game overwatch players thought overwatch was, and it had some excellent class ideas that haven't been coopted yet by other games like the brawler that moves strictly by rocket jumping omnidirectionally or the gunslinger with a single shot linear projectile and a burst hitscan. Going 12-4 on that one in a high rise map in the speedball gamemode was probably one of the most enjoyable competitive gaming experiences I ever had.

For the longest time as of late, especially where I'm at, it's not been fun to visit arcades that we don't even get cool games like these or stuff like Starwing Paradox or the Gunslinger Startos ones. And yeah, the continued decline of arcades in general (accelerated because of the Pandemic, even) has been very saddening too. And it sucks that things like these are doomed to be stuck in the arcades (I have sort of similar feelings for this, as well as Wangan Midnight. As far as a game I truly loved that never got its deserved time in the spotlight I have to shout out The Elder Scrolls: Legends (TESL). Absolutely amazing digital card game with crossplay and progression on mobile and desktop years before games like MtG Arena were doing that. Only it wasn't some bare bones money sucking esports deal. It had full single player campaigns, puzzle modes, and even a fair monetization system where you weren't forced to buy randomized cards but instead bought what were essentially expansions with a full playset of all cards. All this in addition to the usual casual and ranked matches with an amazingly deep and just plain FUN set of mechanics.
It just never got the attention or marketing budget and released a final update towards the end of 2019. To this day I believe that was the best digital card game I will ever play. It just needed that one week where some mega-streamer got addicted to it and it would've been as big as Hearthstone...

with Super DBZ the arcade experience is really cool cause of how involved the card system is.
with cards you save a character with your own set of passive stats, attacks and system mechanics, sort of like choosing grooves and assists.
you even inherit skills from other cards and use your card to insert a dragon ball on the cab. when they’re collected, the next winner makes a wish.
i imagine this experience is pretty different now for the remaining players in asia. but something thats been a big issue lately is these cards expire after 500 plays and its only gonna get worse since they’ve been out of production for over 1.5 decade.
i hope we’ll have a solution eventually since preservation could allow more people to experience the arcade version.
idk when, but im promising to myself ill make it out to bigone and play with the SDBZ guys while i still can

This sucks to see this game go this way, never had the chance to play but it always looked sick. Most of my exposure to it was through your pull streams Obama, thank you though for sharing that portion of the game that could be shared with us. Would love see them carry on this games legacy somehow, but who knows.
In terms of games I'd love to see shine more my pick would be Gundam Extreme Versus, I realize that series has prospered for years in Japan, but I'd hate to see it meet a similar end in the far or near future. Felt the maxiboost release in the us and other territories fell flat and I don't see bamco bustin out another console release anytime soon. Shit that really gets me tight, like these unique arcade style games that will get lost when arcades are no more or they're phased out and there is no way for folks who played them to run it back in another setting. Forgive the wall of text, as well as any ignorance I may have since I haven't experienced this game or games like this firsthand in an arcade. thanks for another thought provoking vid

Man ever since it's debut I have wanted this game to come to the US. It's so sad to hear that it's shutting down. I would love for them to port it to switch as a f2p game for the switch where you could go buy packs of cards and scan them in like amiibos. Or for pc and have them sell some scanning device to plug in to your pc. Any way, it truely is sad to see it go.

Data is saved on a card and these days they are hard to find, but every once in a while I meet someone with a card from years ago and we battle like our lives depend on it. a game hitting the end of its life span is always sad to hear. i used to play marvel heroes online which was basically diablo but each hero was there own class with in an archetype . was a lot of fun but as the company that made it changed leadership a lot of the transparency and content releases disappeared. and just when they got a console release , the studio lost the licensee ( for seems like bad conduct among the new leadership ) and shut down . ill always miss that game but I'm glad i at least enjoyed my time wit it

Yeah, after David Brevik left the game took a nosedive. As an example, Doctor Strange was one of the wildest characters I'd ever seen in a game like this and you basically had the modify the .ini files to get more action bars to play him correctly. Then learn to play the piano. Dumbing Strange down was one of many changes they made while trying to chase a console market that had zero interest in the game and it shut down pretty soon after. But it was a really enjoyable Diablo-like, not all the characters were great but there were so many that they ended up coming up with some super cool stuff along the way. Also they had a funny approach to balance, which was 'never nerf anything, buff characters who need it'. Which resulted in some absurd powercreep, but it was mainly a PVE game so didn't really matter.

Interesting. I was actually thinking about Fate/Stay Night yesterday; the premise of the characters and anime and their wonky mechanics would make for an interesting game. In your project L video, you highlighted how some champions could simply be added for single player content. SF6 showed us how important single player content is. I mention those things because I believe Fate/Stay Night falls into the same parameters. Then this video pops up, and you're right. As fun and engaging as it looks, I will never get to experience this. I also am never on twitch so I missed the streams as well. Glad you and other people across Japan got to enjoy it though. Maybe in 3 years we'll get something on PC
As far as games go that went grossly under appreciated, I give it to DnF Duel. I love everything about the game. Even dragon knight. But it essentially fell flat in 2 months. New DLC looks amazing. New mechanics and new combos. All look well thought out, but no one is on the game.

I wish this game out to Steam. I always wanted to spend more time playing it.
For a game I wish got a proper chance, Tales of Crestoria and Dragalia Lost are two games I was sad to see close. Crestoria has a really good story. As a long time Tales of fan, the story quality in games since Abyss hasn't been where it's needed to be. But Crestoria that quality of story telling was there. It was trapped in a dinky little mobile game.
And the whole time I was thinking if this was a console game it would have blown Arise out of the water. It's a huge shame. I hope that game someday gets the justice it deserves.

Games that I feel the same sentiment as you do for FGO Arcade would be the Tribes franchise and boomer shooters in general because the perceived difficulty and appeal to the market is just not it even though a lot of the popular shooters are deeply rooted in it (Overwatch being the biggest example). Tribes was such an amazing game to play even though veterans kinda shat on it at the time. Movement was so fast and being paired with projectile-based weapons, it was so satisfying to frag someone predicting where they will move after 2-5 seconds of you shooting. Capture the Flag being the primary game mode also naturally forced randoms to team up and play objective which made for a really fun time. Also not forgetting to mention the general communication tool being the VGS system which was super funny.
Another one would be Ragnarok Online. It was an MMO that was sprite-based, didn't force any story to you and just the general vibe was so good. The classes in that game were the most mechanically-intensive (special mention to the whole Monk class tree) in any video game ever. The PvP was immaculate and deep with how elements worked and you can counter them by equipping weapons and armors that counter the element (you would micromanage switching through 8 armors at some point). The lore was really subtle through just the environmental details (SO beautiful) but would hit so hard once you engaged yourself with it. It still is the perfect 2.5D RPG and it was done during the early 2000s. Peak.

I have the feeling that TYPE-MOON is thinking about whether to release it internationally, since Genshin Impact is earning more than FGO JP-NA combined. (FGO remains in second place among the best-selling gachas, it is impressive since the cell phone version has limited gameplay)
I see it possible that in this decade they will release FGO Arcade, perhaps it will not be like in Japan where they have their physical cards. But open it on cross-platforms for consoles and PC.

Just had the chance to play it in Japan for the first time. My honest opinion is that while fun and immersive, it’s feels like a black hole for your money.
Pulls cost 10 credits (1,000 yen). Each gameplay mission costs 1credit/100 yen I believe (150 GP or whatever it’s called in the arcade version). If you get bonus cards or extra CE’s, you gotta pay extra to get them.
For the amount of materials and gameplay needed to level up servants or CE’s, it’s a pretty expensive game. Especially if your not local. Still it was a fun experience, but I feel like other arcade games could’ve used the money better.

One game I wish had a second chance is Secret Ponchos. A lot of the accolades you’ll see for it tout praises from the FGC and people who saw great potential in its depth. While it never developed what could be considered a “scene”, it was a unique game ahead of its time that can no longer be played in multiplayer (which was online only). With a little bit more love and resources, I feel it could’ve evolved into something worth a small yet passionate community. Devs teased a F2P revival a long time ago, but you’d be lucky to hear the name of the game anywhere nowadays.

If we're talking about underrated card games that never got a chance to shine, nothing rings truer to me than the Japanese online CCG Alteil. It had all the mechanics and design choices I wanted in a CCG, taking the randomness out of card draws and putting RNG in more interesting areas instead. Sadly when I found it many years ago the English server community was probably 100 people total if that. There was a lot of passion there and we tried to keep pushing it as long as we could, but in the end it never took off. I'll never forget it tho.

The best part about this game: It's an arcade gacha card game
the worst thing about this game: It's an arcade gacha card game.
You needed to have some dough or just not care where your money went to play this game at a reasonable pace or compete in general. And the game unfortunately wasn't as deep as its contemporaries imo. Not that it really needed to be.
I really think you can afford to lose the gacha/card system for a home port. Physical card games have great online markets to complement their real life counterparts. If people find FGOA fun as a whole than it would be fine. But if a home port really destroys what made the game fun, than i think it wasn't the game that was fun, it was the real life gacha/cards.
Not that this is necessarily a bad thing. I do hope there is a home port or way to play the game out of the arcades though. I hate when games get lost to time.

Those cards look sick. Makes me wonder how much cross-media presence is too much. How much does it cost to print out a card? I think it would be cool to be able to take the cards from the arcade and use them in a TCG. Maybe it works the other way, opening a booster with a Servant you can scan at the arcade.
