The thing that makes the Dr. Roman craft essences more painful is the fact that some of them are glimpses into things he never got to experience but wished he had. Relaxing, watching the fireworks, just living life, these were things he had been willing to sacrifice his immortality for but was ultimately unable to because the majority of his mortal existence was devoted to saving humanity. These CEs are sentimental, but they have a layer of tragedy in no small part because they represent Roman's dream that he had to give up for the sake of humanity
I think Eresh is a Lancer just because Ishtar is an Archer, though. They're explicitly supposed to be two halves of one whole, and Eresh was basically the only person in the entire Sumerian myth that properly humbled Ishtar and got away with it.

There's also a point when Caster Gil got mad at Ishtar for losing something that could summon her giant familiar and was never mentioned again. I wonder if the devs purposely did that just to her an archer so that it would be consistent for Ereshkigal being a lancer.

I think the intention was probably to not undermine the threat of Tiamat, they probably would've made Ishtar an Archer regardless (come on, how else would they get someone to shoot Venus at the enemies?).

However I am pretty sure the Oui (Hokisai) thing about the true meaning of becoming a Fairy is unjustified.
Because the thing they translated as "future fairy" was actually future Zhenren (Xian through Daoist practices). Xian is sometimes translated as immortal and sometimes as fairy in traditional English translation of Chinese (and Japanese concepts derived from that).
When Saber Hokusai (Oui) talks about being a future fairy that is translation quirk of the NA version, since she actually say wants to be come a Zhenren/Xian (as is known for the historical Oui, since that her ambition to become Xian through esoteric Daoist practices is part of the testimony of one Hokusai's pupils).

For Medusa Lancer, I think she was summoned in that class to be able to use Harpè, Perseus weapon, because that weapon is able to kill her Gorgon self.
Medusa Lancer wasn't Summoned she was the expelled "goodness" left in Gorgon. That's why when she defeated Gorgon She became Gorgon and helped us with Tiamat. It's also why summoned Gorgon Is nowhere near as bad as Babylon's Gorgon.

@@mr.skeptic fate stay night is the original story. Game was released in 2004 it has 3 different routes, many characters die in all 3 of them, but Lancer is a bit special in a way that his desths look more as unluck, than a conclusion of his abilities and circumstances.
