Nikki- you are a blessing and inspiration to me. I have been watching your videos for information and strength over the past few weeks. I can't believe your beauty and bravery through your journey. I am 32 with grade 1 stage 1 er, pr positive invasive ductal carcinoma and a 2 yr old. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for reaching out to us with your story and practical advice. It is so healing.
I also will be doing a double. I had breast cancer in 08 and lost over half of my L breast, I Just found out this past week that cancer is back after13 years. This time my breast must come off so I have elected to have the other one removed. I am really scared. Thank you for sharing
I’m so sorry to hear this!! My double mastectomy was tough, but I’m so so glad I did it. I never worry about getting another cancer, although I know there’s still a small risk. But the peace of mind is well worth the 6 week recovery. Best of luck 😘😘
Very best of luck tomorrow!! You are very brave to be able to talk about it, think I’d be too anxious! Also lol about the book! Does the woman who makes the drain bags have an Etsy?
Hi Nikki , Were your doctors ever concerned about the skin and nipple sparring considering you are BRCA1 ? I was told it was safer to remove any tissue from the breast because of the gene . TIA
Dominique cote hi 👋🏻 my surgeon said the statistical difference between nipple sparing and non was negligible- 1-2%. I figured I’d reduced my risk from 85% down to 5% recurrence rate, so I was happy with that. It’s a personal choice and a surgeon skill choice - I’m glad I kept mine. If only for decoration purposes 😁😘
Claire Phillips some surgeons do, some don’t. Having one in does reduce the risk of post op infection so maybe query this before your surgery. I had 4 for 10 days, the the last 2 weren’t removed until 5 weeks post surgery.
Hi Nicola , how many weeks did you have to wait from diagnosis to the start of your chemo . I know you guys have the NHS and we also have universal health care here in Canada however they want to proceed with surgery in my case but we are still waiting on genetic testing which should arrive next week and I’m afraid my cancer will spread . So far my lympnodes appear clear according to MRI but I’m scared we can’t wait much longer . In the US people who are diagnosed usually start some form of treatment within 3-4 weeks . I was diagnosed feb 22 . I just need some reassurance. So far I’m stage 1 with tumour being 1,4 Cm . If I’m Brca 1 positive I will be doing BMX with reconstruction as well .
Dominique cote Hey Hun xx I was in the same boat with waiting on genetic testing so I pushed for chemo first. I had triple negative which responds well to chemo, and they were able to see how well I’d responded by the size of the tumour (scans after chemo 1 and 5 and pre surgery) I was diagnosed August 23rd and started chemo September 17th. I didn’t receive my genetic testing until December 10th (our testing departments are overloaded) xx
Nikki Kimbell don't know yet since he says it will be détermined after surgery . I'm supposed to meet with plastic surgeon soon . I'm seing my psychologist today to vent . I saw surgeon oncologist last week who says tumour has not grown according to MRI 1,4 cm . Its not stuck to any tissue and lymphnodes appear normal . It should be very soon Though . He wanted results of genetic results so i Would not need 2 surgeries. Sais neoadjuvent chemo was not recommended in my case . Still Mad as Hell but i need to have faith he knows what he is doing . 😕
Sabina Shrestha you will be ok. The doctors will give you lots of medication to stop you feeling too poorly. I just felt like I was a little bit hungover for a week - fuzzy head and slightly queasy xx
Your videos have been my saviour through my early sage of chemotherapy.
Thank you x

Does the woman who makes the drain bags have an Etsy?
Thanks! Just in the process of uploading a post-surgery video. The lady doesn't have an Etsy but she has a Facebook page - The Mastectomy Machinists.
Nikki Kimbell great, thanks! How are you feeling? I hope you’re doing ok, considering! I’ll be watching as soon as it’s up x
Feeling better now that I'm out of the hospital, on the mend now.
Nikki Kimbell that’s good news! Sending big hugs 🤗 x

I'm sorry they are taking so long with you. Do you know which chemo regimen you will be on yet?
