As a retired commercial pilot of 42 years one of the points that I pushed as an ALPA Safety Chairman was getting away from a “Mission mentality” and here the FAA is now pushing just such a thing with their use of “inclusive” language.
Unfortunately, just about everyone is pushing "inclusivity" DIE, BLM, CRT,, etc., etc.,
I have no idea why just about every secularist seems to want to join this secular ideological cult, but they do.

Partner does not describe that relationship. It excludes it. Cockpit is a word that describes a thing. If we changed every word that sounded like something else we'd be lost.

People's preoccupation with certain words that are allowed to be used, and attempting to rewrite established texts to remove those words, seems to me to be the equivalent of *_goofing off on the job_* . A few years ago I was in a meeting with FAA personnel as well as aviation personnel from many federal agencies. A female was arguing that we should not call them “unmanned aerial vehicles” because it was offensive. Someone mentioned that the term referred to mankind, not men in general. She then went on a rant about mansplaining. These people are focused on things that have nothing to do with actual work. Sticks and stones.

As someone who lives close to and on the take-off/landing path of a busy eastern international airport, I can tell ya', the people where I live don't give a tinker's damn about words-used-to-describe, we're more worried about air and airport safety. Flight Service briefer here, 20 years proudly in the FAA then forced to work for Lockheed (lost my pension) and continuing now for Leidos. Nobody in the FAA cared about my feelings when they A-76'ed me.
During my career the NOTAM system has become bloated to the point of approaching uselessness. It's an extreme exercise in CYA, messages warning of unlighted signs, missing markers and faded painted lines reveal the simple lack of maintenance at the majority of airports across our country. Everyday I have to pass to pilots warnings about cellphone towers with warning lights out of service, 50 foot towers miles from an airport, and likely adjacent to taller buildings or trees anyway but the warning has to be given to CYA the owner who doesn't fix the required light for possible months at a time - 30 years ago the FCC had a rule that the repair on the safety critical warning light had to happen within 10 days, that was abandoned decades ago, leaving a NOTAM up "we warned you" is the fat easier "solution".
I was an air traffic controller for 22 years. I trained, instructed and fired countless controllers over the years. The ONLY thing I ever cared about was COULD THEY DO THE JOB!!!! If they could NOT do the job, they were gone, period.

My college pilot program had subsidies if you were woman and or a minority, things are in place to diversify pilots already, this…. This makes me feel unsafe that our faa is more concerned over terminologies that has been in place for many many years. I am training to be a flight instructor, I can’t imagine having to tell a new Apple eyed student this bs.

I spent 45 years as a professional pilot, this is a load of crap. I have since retired. They watered down the actual learning how to fly that you have a bunch of pilots that as long as nothing goes wrong they are fine, but as soon as it does and you have to hand fly the airplane things go south. You tell me how two qualified pilots allowed a computer problem to fly themselves right into the south Atlantic? Nolen sure as hell didn't have any touch-feely crap to deal with, my guess is he had to work his ass off just to get thru flight school and whatever came after for him, I don't think the term airman was even an issue for him them if it was he would have fluked out. Why do think they automated flying so much, it's got nothing to do with workload and everything to do with how pilots have been being trained over the last 30 years.

When I was a Postmaster in a small town, that is the word on my office door "Postmaster". That was in the early 90s. Someone tried to make an issue and asked if I wanted the sign changed. I said no of course not. I have never felt excluded because of gendered language. I understand that "man" includes all humans. I was brought up by a single mom on a small mixed farm. Strong independent women don't need to have the world revolve around them .... they just get on with it. I have done a lot of different jobs from clerical to running a saw buck and 8" edger in a sawmill. From driving school bus to training drivers to being a teachers aid. From letter carrier to post master. Just get on with it..... OH btw, I home educated my 2 children ... I bought and sold several properties without usi g a realtor ...
