great fishery.. I do same thing just north of you in British Columbia up close to where alaska meets canada. I personally like black cod over halibut and then ling cod. halibut is my 3rd choice. for eating
Big sablefish. What kinda of bottom structure you were at when you find them? I am thinking to try it in California but I heard they are super deep down here
Ok, now thats an adventure! Less than ideal conditions but some amazing fishing. Curious, how do you know where to drop in for black cod? is there something you are seeing on the depth finder? Certain bottom conditions?
Out of Westport to the North they can be loaded where you are trying to fish Halibut. They are always a welcomed bycatch when targeting halibut. Nothing specific on the sonar.
Cool video! what is the string you are using to wrap up the bait? is it rubber? I also have a tancom 750 and love this reel.... the 800 just came out and i'm eyeing that too!
You are saying that both fish have the same texture? I was looking for a fish similar to black cod for grilling. Both fishes are fairly expensive where I live, I hardly ever see halibut for sale.
No not the same texture. Halibut is very delicate with a finished semi firm texture. Really firm if overcooked. Black cod is very oily, delicate and hard to over cook. End result cooked on the grill is very very tender almost mushy. Some people can’t stand black cod but I think it’s light years better than halibut. Thanks for watching and the comment.
Well you asked black cod or halibut um 😐 🤔 😕 y not both and some reg cod salmons rock fish kelp grayling ling cod flounder if its good for eating and there is a limit can be caught ima try to come back with a live well full of fish something about a freezer full of fish crab shrimp ouster clams seems to me like a 😊great idea 💡
Good to finally see someone taking the collars.
Absolutely they are the best
Great action great filet job . I liked it
Pretty cool video! Had a little weather…. I’d pick black cod anyway because I feel like it’s the best smoked fish ever!! Thanks!
I couldn’t agree more. Black cod is so good. Thanks for watching BT

Average size Halibut at 14:45? Is that fish even legal? Ever thought about circle hooks? Would save a ton of time and effort.
What kind of trailer is that? It's not an ibeam like most aluminum and it doesn't look galvanized
Not sure the brand but definitely Aluminum

Miracle thread. It’s like any other thread but stretchy. I highly recommend it when halibut fishing.
I actually like them both. but if I had to choose ONE over the other then it would be HALIBUT
