Brings back memories, now retired I spent over 45 years at the fishing, last 17 as skipper, mostly fishing for Hake, monkfish and also cod and haddock in my earlier days at the Faroe Islands and south east Iceland. I have fished all methods other than Purse seining for pelagic fish from trawling, gill nets and longlining, pts for lobster and brown crab too, I did a trip once on a purse seine netter as a sort of tourist just to see what it was like(the small prawn trawler I was working on at the time had run out of quoter for the month) one shot and the boat was full of Mackerel. I really miss going to sea.
Watching this channel has been so healing for me. Like I said many times; I would be a fly pestering you guys every day to go out on the boat with you and just watch you fish and doing the same thing hour after hour and I would never be board.
Great to watch and appreciate. My cousins are fishermen from generations back. the Vinnicombe family, from Mylor and Falmouth Cornwall. Me, I followed the other Cornish work form. I was a tin miner. Too old for it now, but here to tell of it! All the best. "Meur ras baws!"
JUST A SUPER,, SUPER,, CHANNEL ❤… SO MUCH TO LEARN… AND GREAT 🎉 FAMILY VALUES…. NEVER KNEW HOW MUCH HARD WORK,,, IT TAKES,,, AS WELL AS A BIT OF LUCK,,,,,, EVEN WITH EXPERIENCE AS YOUR TEAM HAS,,, TO BRING THOUSANDS OF US FRESH FISH ,, AND AN EDUCATION AT THE SAME TIME ❤,,, PLEASE BE SAFE AND HEALTHY,, TXS
I can't believe that clasp just twisted and disconnected like that 1-100,000,000 , New set up looks to working out and I see what you mean about being able to move around the gear pulling from the side. That was a HUGE Whopper and T walks over and pulls the hook out with his fingers !! LOL Loved it ! Hopefully will be a good Halibut season ! Thanks for letting us hangout🐟🐟🦀🦀❤❤.
Good to see you guys fishing. I am trying to adjust to you all pulling fish up on the side. I thought it worked so good the other way. But, I appreciate that you are organizing your deck to suit you. Tight lines.
Some of those starfish were almost keeper sized! lol One thing that most people wouldn't think of with the new set up is how many years did you have the old layout? So you'd be fighting years of muscle memory to learn the new motions. Nice seeing that barn door come over the rail! A few fat cod in there too. One trickle-down effect from the new set up is not fighting the current in the cut and being in reverse constantly will be a small reduction in fuel consumption and wear on the machinery. It might not be much each trip, but it will add up a fair bit over time.
Great points Captain. We had at least 15 years running the old layout. I can definitely tell that the new setup is beneficial if just a bit of a learning curve. Already started feeling natural the last couple trips.
Thanks again for taking us on the trip out. Looks like you're working out the bugs and changes brought about by the change to the side haul. All the best from Bris Vegas Aus!
Great job T practice makes perfect. Everyone starts from the bottom up! If you were a "fly on the wall" when Matty started it wasn't very pretty I'll bet. A little ribbing from the crew is ok.
I have a question about your gear. What is your preferred type of material for on deck tackle, tools. I see a lot of aluminum, is there a specific grade and do you put any coating in the aluminum? Stainless ? Can you mix the stainless and aluminum, any does and don’ts ? I have a large aluminum hull, and have used stainless fittings etc, and have not had many problems, but as I add things I don’t want to have problems with galvanic action. Love your vids, and like that you take the time to explain, not that I, going to start fishing, but I learn things that I can apply to sport fishing.
I KNOW THAT ITS A POSSIBILITY THAT THE LINE CAN GET TANGLED IN THE PROP!!!.BUT I HAVE NEVER SEEN IT HAPPEN TO YOU GUYS..I CANT SEE WHAT ADVANTAG YOU GET HAULING THIS WAY!!!.THERE IS LESS SPACE TO OPERATE THAN BEFORE 😮..AND I THINK MAT WOULD AGREE WITH ME ON THIS ONE 😉..
What is the minimum length for halibut? I see you throwing some back. And what is the quota for the year for you guys? I have a neighbor here in Wisconsin that long lines for salmon in Alaska, he goes back and forth. Never asked if he long lined for halibut.
I lost a couple of shrimp pots with those stainless 'C' clips. Same thing nothing apparent caused it. My conclusion was that the stainless were a bit too slippery and the gaps a bit too big. I stopped using them. The only action on them was tide and some swell when they disengaged. With pots it gets a bit expensive!!
Oh yeah anything that doesn’t keep tension on the link would make me nervous. Thats why we still tie our buoys on instead of using those, as quick as it would be.
When you say "add a roller" are you speaking of adding a pulley or roller drum directly to the rail to redirect the line vs using the pulley on the boom arm?
I could see the wheels spinning round in T's mind as yall hooked the end of the broken line up as he imagined a big white whale had gobbled up the fish on the line one at a time devouring them as he cruised the broken line eating all the fish and hooks in an easy swimming motion
I live way over here in Vinalhaven Maine, halibut is a staple, fishermen get about 25 dollars a pound if bought directly from them, no idea what the CO-OP pays. Is it that expensive in Alaska?
Hi guys nice to see the whole family involved, another feather in Mom's cap - editor and Cecil B DeMille director. Do wish you can do something about that darn microphone fur, freaks me out every time it appears! 🙂
I understand why you haul from the side, just looks a bit cramped and not as easy once the fish come on board as before. What's the growth rate on halibut per yr, from just undersize to legal size.
That might be the most frequent concern of the change so far. It might look a bit cramped but overall its almost no different then before. I think landing the halibut is a bit tougher but with longer gangions that issue will be reduced somewhat. The fish seemed to be thrashing a lot more lately too, shallow fishing.
I commented about the side pulling. 1/ Height of your rail when leaning over. It might be too low for safety. 2/ lack of working space. You have fish under feet plus trying to slide them to the stern. 3/ Pulley and lines mean you are both in a danger zone if anything fails. 4/ In a bigger sea side pulling can make the boat rock over and be unstable. So just stay safe guys, please. I can see the reasons for doing side hauling against stern hauling on the boat itself. Nice catch though.
Damb , don't Stab yourself or your rain gear with the gaff. You don't have to wrap the leader around your hand either. Just grab clasp and get it tight , then yank it. The length will give you leverage and tear that blotch out of the lips. Easy peasy . Own it !
That kid is going to put his dehooker right in his leg, why do you have a point on it to dehook fish, he isn't gaffing them? If he needs a small gaff give him 2 tools right
Errm, we all know why it wasn't a great catch and the problems, not a thing to do with the MEN cough cough wink wink lol.. Keep up practicing bud... Most gen z are weak ...young people would run from the hard work now days..GL 😉
There is no way that setup is better. If it's not broke it dont need fixing..... I'd have to say the video was better the old way and you guys weren't so close to each other. And your mom having to lean over the side to get the video is kinda dangerous dont you think. Old set up way better for videoing and fishing I think.

I was in Kodiak in August 2023. I have family there. We went out jigging and I got my halibut. Sooo good.

Nice to see EIS family back in action. Good luck with Halibut run.
Thanks!

Worse thing is you have to go through with all the hard work even if there are no fish as a prize, the work still has to be done.
new episode! Sweet checking it out!

Will there be a part 3? I really enjoy you measuring the fish and offloading them
Hi Barbara yep there will be a part 3 showing that, thank you for tuning in, we appreciate all your support.

Is the angle of retrieval twisting the line tight as it is spooling and would that break snaps? just curious.
Thanks again for taking us on the trip out. Looks like you're working out the bugs and changes brought about by the change to the side haul. All the best from Bris Vegas Aus!
Yep this was the next day after first, so was still in the awkward phase. Its a lot better feeing now.
Great job T practice makes perfect. Everyone starts from the bottom up! If you were a "fly on the wall" when Matty started it wasn't very pretty I'll bet. A little ribbing from the crew is ok.
Cool video thanks for sharing

Did you ever get the other boat finished? IT looks like the same boat but arranged differently
I could see the wheels spinning round in T's mind as yall hooked the end of the broken line up as he imagined a big white whale had gobbled up the fish on the line one at a time devouring them as he cruised the broken line eating all the fish and hooks in an easy swimming motion
KUDOS TO YOUR AUDIO!! 100% BETTER!!
Do you like the new boat
Hi hope the Halibut fishing improves It worries me that you are working in front of the block just before the drum. Hope nothing brakes.
Fair concern, its all super robust since we hauled purse line with essentially the same setup. Fishing seems hit or miss so far, but nice grade too.
8.2 knots on your way to the other end when u parted off ???
I live way over here in Vinalhaven Maine, halibut is a staple, fishermen get about 25 dollars a pound if bought directly from them, no idea what the CO-OP pays. Is it that expensive in Alaska?

Haha! Yeah, i didn’t notice the bracket was sagging, I’ve since fixed it with a piece of line to cantilever it back out of frame.
Is there a reason the catch isn't iced down after landing?
T you got it dude keep at it! You will be pro soon! 👍👍👊👊
When are you gonna start using the new bigger boat?
I understand why you haul from the side, just looks a bit cramped and not as easy once the fish come on board as before.

Did you guys get skunked on the first set?
great videos, but my back hurts just watching. LOL.
What do Halibut feed on?
Anything they find pretty much. For this time of year there will be tons of salmon washing out of streams so I imagine the gorge on those.
nice video, still looking good
you ever think about installing a foot pedal for hydrualics? just a string and pedal so you can control with your foot, thats how we do it.
Do you set in the straits by raspberry island
We haven’t had the chance to fish there before, but have wanted to get up that way!
Aquí tenemos muchos incendio en canarias
Nice present 🦈 +1
İyi avlar bol kazançlar selamlar İstanbul'dan
This is what real working people look like
Not sure if I like the new angle. Don’t hardly see the fish coming up and over.
Why change/ You had a well oiled system
I'm guessing the tail of a big sculpin is plenty edible.
Probably, I will stick with cod though! 😋
I never thought those things looked reliable.
Did I see some cod?
Tristan driving the boat ?
🙂👍
Mom does good
Yes she does. She is the glue that holds us all together!
Saya ingin sekali kerja kapal ikan seperti ini..tp tidak tahu syarat melamar dan kemana melamarnya untuk pekerjaan ini..🙏🙏
Hola cómo están 😊
Lol that link
You knew it would happen someday eventually
The most unlikely things happen with fishing.
I Wana do that kind of job thers not one like this in Washington
I hear a ladies voice ,hope you get plenty of coffee ,on the go ,😝👍
wish I was there
Stop pickin on T. He da man!

Thuyền của bạn rất đẹp và cách câu cá rất hiện đại cùng bắt được nhiều cá! Nhưng sao lại bỏ cá nhỏ đi cho to hơn à mày?
Our man T needs a little shorter hook. Less of a point would be good so our young hero doesn’t get hooked in the belly
Damb , don't Stab yourself or your rain gear with the gaff. You don't have to wrap the leader around your hand either. Just grab clasp and get it tight , then yank it. The length will give you leverage and tear that blotch out of the lips. Easy peasy . Own it !

I am sorry to say but I think you are better off on the back of the boat
Ya no pescan al salmón
Ur new design in the back of the boat is ugly and small u should have left it as it was with more room.
Looks cumbersome now and awkward.
Does any of the boys have girlfriend.if so do they like to fish or go on the boat with them.
Sorry guys....Your video is boring...Not enough action😒😒
Welp that’s fishing! Cant make em bite.
Errm, we all know why it wasn't a great catch and the problems, not a thing to do with the MEN cough cough wink wink lol..
Keep up practicing bud... Most gen z are weak ...young people would run from the hard work now days..GL 😉
It would be nice not to have eyelashes in the video.
There is no way that setup is better. If it's not broke it dont need fixing..... I'd have to say the video was better the old way and you guys weren't so close to each other. And your mom having to lean over the side to get the video is kinda dangerous dont you think. Old set up way better for videoing and fishing I think.
Watching rear drag is better visuallyu Will take some getting used to 23:01 23:01
Where’s the big boat Whatz up with it
Helloo😅
anoying slow worker that one ther.
Hola cómo están 😊
