I can see what you mean. But to me, it's more of that his standards are so unbelievably high, it's basically impossible to please him anymore. He may not be as obnoxious as someone like Synthetic Man (who is a horrible, sad human being btw), as at least Mayo is self-aware enough to be kinda respectful to anyone who doesn't think the same way as he does, he pretty much comes off and passive-aggressive. If you want to be overly critical, basically ignoring the enjoyment just for the sake of being over-analytical, watch Mayo. His channel is just, so lifeless.
The only point I agree with Mayo on are the unresponsive item pick up range and the jankiness in some combat animations. The unresponsive range on the item pick ups still happen even with prompts on. The rest of his points are just "this is too hard for me therefore it's le bad"
Just to clarify, the reason why the combat is a bit janky is because its bloober’s first time diving into combat mechanics and at the same time, they didn’t want the combat to be ‘good’ because in the original, combat wasn’t the emphasis.
Bro James actor genuinely has become a top 5 game performances for me. I think the remake painting James as a guy who did something wrong and genuine regrets it was way more compelling than the original where I always saw him as just an asshole
Eh, I prefered how in the original he felt terrible about what he did but was also somewhat glad he did it, at least in the endings were he either drives into the lake or gets out with Laura. I dunno, the way we never truly know the degree of his regret is more appealing to me.

Honestly, "a Doom lense" is quite debatable too. I stopped watching his DE videos when I got tired of him constantly trying to tell me that remote detonation mod for rocket launcher is better than lock-on mod. I mean, it's a stun for a few seconds vs delete a hellknight button.

Wouldn’t you be disoriented and confused. I think the cameras fine and not dodging into walls is a fair gameplay aspect.
Mayo is just looking for things to complain about. In the Abstract Daddy fight, you can literally hear sexual cries for help if you listen closely. And yeah, the pistons pumping and torn skin walls also help sell it. It’s not overly subtle and it’s very disturbing and effective of telling what Angela went through.
31:02 and the remakes adds more puzzles, adds more exploration, has decent sound design while also improving the combat. Mayo's review seems like a mess. Silent hill 2 remake > re3 remake
Mayo is 100% wrong and your video does a good job of showing why. I actually had a response from him in one of my comments regarding maria's character and censorship, but i agree with what he said about the prompts James head movement indicates very well what is interactable. That's how i recommended my buddy play it and he also didn't have a problem. The game seems to be well designed enough to the point where the prompts aren't really needed and you get enough enviromental context to know what to interact with. You can play it both ways and enjoy it, but i'd argue turning them off gives you that same feeling as the OG did. Some games have the option to turn the UI and prompts off, but clearly aren't designed to be played that way. The remake allows for the two options to be viable, which is great, but i'd like if the prompts being off were the default setting because it really helps with the immersion. As far as modern games go, it's one of the few ones that didn't really need the prompts.

Biggest issue in terms of voice acting no one talks about is James' voice imo. I have no idea how people can say new voice is as good as original James or better. Original James had a compassionate,young, cheerful, hopeful voice. That's why revelation at the end of the game hit hard. New James however sounds very ''neutral'' rather than ''good''. He even sounds antagonistic in some areas especially against Laura. This is a bigger issue than Maria's or Angela's voice actresses imo.
Eh, To each their own. Personally speaking, I always found James' acting the the original to be outright terrible. He sounds completely unnatural in the same way that the acting in Resident Evil's 1-CV sounded off. Both had straight-up B movie tier acting. To be honest, that's how I feel about most of the original actors. The one exception being Monica Horgan as Mary/Maria. James in SH2R on the other hand sounds like an actual human being. Don't get me wrong, there were definitely certain scenes where I wish the voice director got James' actor to emote a bit more, but at no point did the acting take me out it like James' original actor did constantly. Easily the biggest glow-up of the cast as far as I'm concerned.
Theres alot I agree with both of you on here I played the remake first on hard Yesterday I beat the original on pcsx2 Both have strengths, & both have downsides I kept seeing og fans reeing that the vibe was gone & after checking for myself I kinda agree with them. Its not entirely gone but I feel the combat was too focused. Bloober made this awesome combat system & they wanted to get their works worth & I dont have a problem with that but half of my memories of the remake are just me dodging & swinging my wood plank, it does go on for quite a long time, the original is a bit tighter with what its trying to do. The remake has phenomenal voice acting and I love James in particular. Its got great sound design & overall atmosphere, fantastic voice acting. I feel like at least now folks have a choice of which experience they'd go for. Just glad I finally experienced the series Good vid
I wouldn't really say the game was padded to a terrible degree. On the spectrum of AAA games, it's still pretty short, only taking about 13ish hours or so. The only real area that felt a bit padded was the Otherworld apartments, but that's mostly because the normal Apartments were already expanded on a ton.
I'm subbed to Mayo I like his content, I also think these criticisms are valid and good critiques of him as a creator. He has a good sense of humor and can have really well articulated criticisms like his critique of the castle in RE8, but he is also very frustrating at times and his opinions can make me bang my head against the wall.
Mayo is like a politician. When he dislikes something, instead of simply saying "it's not for me", he tries to elobarete why he doesn't like it and even fails to do that.
I stopped watching Mayo's content a while ago for a lot of the reasons you listed. I did watch his Silent Hill video because it showed up in my recommended section and was pulling my hair out for most of it.

32:16: Guess what, that's the point. The weak combat in the first games was well exploited by the game designers to make everything else scary. He's not contradicting his acknowledgment of the combat in those games as weak. "Survival Horror games aren't action games" is the point he's trying to make. We could argue that he is being a bit melodramatic(I dare say reactionary) and self-centered; focusing only on his experience of the game instead of others as well. But you are also not on the right for trivializing it as him simply not wanting improvement in something he acknowledges is weak.
Fucking thank you for pointing out that the Pyramidhead vs. mannequins scenes are not "censored" or "sanitized." I'm seeing this complaint everywhere online from idiot incels and it's infuriating. Just because the angles and actions are not *exactly* the same as in the original does not mean the symbolism isn't there anymore. It's just presented in a slightly different way. Whether it's better or worse than the original is subjective. But nothing has been "censored." People who only read surface-level context into things by dwelling on the obvious like that have no business critiquing something as cerebral and subtle as Silent Hill often is. It's like taking a chainsaw to a meticulous surgery.
I like mayo, I will say I don't agree with majority of his opinions but I do have to agree that Maria in the remake fell kind of flat for me. There's something about the original voice actor that just landed with me. Could be bias towards how much I love the original but I love the remake and the original but Maria just didn't land for me in the remake. Also, I have no idea what game that is in the video. To be honest, not knowing what it is has absolutely captured my attention, lol. Sometimes no context is more entertaining lol. Great video!

You missed the point on him complaining about the puzzles in the prison. Even though aspects of it are improved, the point is that the game is dragged to a proportion almost twice the length of the original. It also doesn't help that there are only 3 enemy types to fight and that the combat options are limited. Before you list off a bunch of variants of enemies claiming this isn't true; the most you could stretch the MAIN enemy variety to is 4, the lying figures and nurse variants are far to similar to the original to consider them anything exciting or interesting, the new mannequins are cool, but 1 more unique enemy for 2x the playtime isn't enough. Issues of enemy variety and limited combat would be fine if the game was the same length of the original, but its not, the systems and enemies integrated into the game aren't varied enough to make the extended runtime interesting and anything outside of padding. Another factor into this problem is the fact that the game encourages fighting enemies far more than in the original, making the combat even more repetitive.
I think the point in his video that irks me the most is how he claims that they removed the sexual themes, when the entirety of the reimagined Abstract Daddy fight shows otherwise. The surreal imagery that starts appearing in the arena throughout the fight invokes a disturbing form of sexual imagery, with stuff like the weird skin walls and the thrusting machinery. Hell, Abstract Daddy literally starts the fight by thrusting. I'm fully convinced he didn't even play the game with his eyes open if he missed that.
I'm very certain that Mayo is the kinda guy who made certain assumptions about what the remake would be (and what it wouldn't) and when it came out, his brain wouldn't let him register that he was actually wrong, even if he pretends to acknowledge it... there's always a caveat to the acknowledgement... a "I was wrong but was I really?" And when you fall into that mindset... your brain is actively looking for things to latch onto as criticism. Like legitimately, his review of the remake reads like he didn't even like the original, as much as as he says he does, considering most of his criticism is just how the remake dared to expand not just thematically, but mechanically. It reads like he just wants a silent hill visual novel
Other popular horror TH-camrs expressed the same opinion so it's not about Mayo in particular but old fans who won't accept the remake. Ogs just hate it. Punching Boulder and other big horror figures, Sphere Hunter for example, asked to boycott it was well!

I’m starting to question if Mayo even likes video games at all… 😅 And about the whole Angela complaint he has about it being too subtle or wtv, it was very subtle in the OG game too, the only part it’s not subtle is when she says after the fight “force me like he always did”. And I’d argue having the closet there in the boss fight which is a safe zone from the boss and if you look around it looks like where Angela would hide from her father, man that’s way darker and more visceral. I don’t want Angela’s story to be in your face. That’s what made it so tastefully and maturely done in the OG. It was subtle.

My problem with UnderTheMayo (of many) is that he just can’t really state the objective stuff while distinguishing what are his personal tastes/thoughts of things; it’s never ‘here’s how this system/mechanic is/works, here’s how I feel about it’ making sure that line is there to tell where one ends and one begins, it’s always ‘this is how I feel about this whole thing and I’m only using my own basis to tell what’s good or not without showing that line of objective vs, subjective/opinion’ It’s an incredibly flawed approach and way to handle or portray criticism if you ask me and the main reason he’s so controversial and problematic as a ‘critic’ or ‘reviewer’

What I find maddening about the remake is how much give and take it has going on. Great for a companion piece to the original, not so great when we know full-well people are NOT gonna go play the original after playing the remake despite being lifelong fans (sic). I love it, but I don't love it to the point where I'd say it replaces the original. At best I can say it's a companion piece and at the worst it's a demo of the experience the OG gives. This makes it very hard to criticize properly, since because it turned out to not be a steaming pile of refuse, it's garnered what I can only describe as a cult of toxic positivity. Top comment says UtM is in his own Silent Hill, but I feel like I'm realizing I'm in mine, too. Where I got a game I genuinely liked and enjoyed but oop, its effects on the community and discourse are so awful it gives me a hankering for gunpowder and lead. Edit: I have to disagree on the otherworld. It feels to bright, which is a problem every SH game past 1 has, but it's even worse here, and the design is MUCH too "silent hill 1". SH2's OG otherworld was so subtle you'd be forgiven for not realising it's gone off, but it slowly unveiled itself as you progressed. It also fed into this feeling of the sleeping dragon. To explain it: imagine silent hill as a dragon. In 1, the dragon is awake, and is thrashing about but you aren't its target. In 3, it's awake, older and wiser and worst of all, you ARE its target. In 2, meanwhile, it's been asleep for so long it's part of the landscape, and you don't even realize there's a dragon there when it lazily swipes in your general direction like a sleeping person to a fly. It was the point where you felt the smallest. In the remake that feeling's just gone.
I'd argue the original has just as much toxic positivity around it, people have rose tinted glasses and nostalgia so it's hard for them to be objective. Try to be more open minded towards the remake and see it as it's own thing

I am literally so tired of people complaining about Maria no longer being sexy and how she's "woke" now. Why? Because she doesn't have a small strip of her stomach showing? What??? I find it important to mention that I was introduced to Silent Hill through the remake, so not only do I not have any nostalgia tied to the OG outfit, but I also just don't like the original outfit. It's too crazy and distracting (not in a sexy way, but in a "it's too bright and there are too many patterns" way), more like something a teenager would wear rather than an adult woman. At least by today's standards. And I know the game came out at a different time, but from the perspective of a new player, the new outfit is far more grounded and mature. More skin doesn't necessarily make something more sexy. I actually think the new Maria is really sexy, uncomfortably. It's off-putting in a way that heightens the experience. Going back to my teenager comment, how many women have you seen wearing crop tops? They're a lot more popular among the youth nowadays, particularly among teenage girls. The only reason I bring this up is that the concept of what is sexy and what is considered hot is changing, and it makes sense for the character designs to change with it. And look. I like my sexy woman, I'm not immune to being upset with changes, like Lara Croft's weird, mesh tank top thing. But, while I understand to some extent, I do still think Maria is not a good example of that. Sorry if this is too long, but that Mayo guy was just pissing me off. I'm starting to think his complaints about the Maria actress and characterization would not be half as bad if her stomach was showing. This video was really entertaining, and I completely agree with almost all your points :]
32:02: UTM's point is that the combat should never take priority. He fears that if the way the enemies fight you is more impactful than everything else, than that goes against what most people loved about the original four games with their focus on atmosphere and story. I personally am not sure whether UTM's fears are fully valid but you diminishing it all to "he's upset that they made the least good thing about Silent Hill good" is pretty unfair.
The remake added stuff, i as a veteran could enjoy when i know the original through and through on any difficulty. Mainly just brought the game back to life. The only kinda off-thing is the voice direction and how the final bosses give you items. I've had like 15 healing items all the time even on hard with the remake. Sh2 never felt like item management to me. If you concentrate on item and ammo management even a bit, you will have a huge stock towards the end. I've also grinded the heck out of The dark souls trilogy so I've probably gotten pretty deep into real time combat strategies, so maybe It's just me. Yeah and the new PH chase also watered down sucks. Scripted all the way through and no difficulty level effects. The boat section is kind of a double edged sword. They made it very easy here. Don't know if people here know that the analog sticks were separate oars on hard mode in the Ps2 version.

And there's a lot of games both old and new that are FANTASTIC. I just recently played Disco Elysium and I can say it's peak but it's not for everyone just like Silent Hill. It's not gatekeeping it's just telling you that what I like may not be of your liking but you can't say that some aspects of the game that you don't like are objectively bad.

It seems you didn't understand what he was getting at when he was talking about the remake's pacing. Under the Mayo doesn't think the combat is worse, he thinks the pacing is worse, and the fact the original was shorter and had less combat, is was far less *repetitive* and exhausting than the original. Less combat also allowed you to take in the environments more instead of always worrying about and fighting enemies. He isn't saying having bad combat would have been better, he's saying the game has too much combat and is too long. I think that point of his is justified.
Im actually in support mayo argument not because I like him but because I am a huge fan of Sh2 and honestly this remake is so forgettable. Like speak what you want about the quality, the changes suck and the overral feel is not of the classic SH games but of the latest ones like Downpuour and Home coming and they were not even SH games at all they Just had the name on it Also it flopped in sales, its still stuck in one million sales and it didnt even reach the all time high players that RE remakes have.

Can't believe I'm saying this but, I am on the same boat under the mayo, I do feel like the game has alot of puzzles (thought I do enjoy them) and I'm finding myself fatigued running around and dreading the next area and have to put the game down alot, I've never finished SH2 classic because well disc was scratched, but I got to the prison in one sitting and it's taken me about 4 or 5 sitting in remake to the point I've had to leave it for a while, but to me the feel of the game feels too long..... Again for me, still a awesome game, mayo can go dry in the sun.
At least maria i would 100% agree, escpecially 2 things stood out for me. Her performance after her "death". I thought it was atrocious. Also her outfit, thats just censorship and i hate it. The veteran fans will tell you "that's the point! It's supposed to sound eerie and uncomfortable", like they believe that the devs did that on purpose when in reality, almost every video game had that level of voice acting back in the day.
There are spots where I flat out disagree when you say remake has better VA'ing, but in the parts where the remake has an objectively better acted line it misses the point of that scene, and what the delivery was suppose to mean and how it was suppose to feel if you reflect it from the original. I'd recommend you watch an excellent SH2 remake video from the controversial yet inquisitive Synthetic Man, he, from the perspective of someone who played the original SH2 time and time over, throughout the years, explains perfectly where the remake falls short and hits modern remake slop territory while being, imo, fair to its' positive traits as well (there aren't a great deal of them)

The only point I agree with Mayo on are the unresponsive item pick up range and the jankiness in some combat animations. The unresponsive range on the item pick ups still happen even with prompts on. The rest of his points are just "this is too hard for me therefore it's le bad"
Just to clarify, the reason why the combat is a bit janky is because its bloober’s first time diving into combat mechanics and at the same time, they didn’t want the combat to be ‘good’ because in the original, combat wasn’t the emphasis.

Mayo is just looking for things to complain about. In the Abstract Daddy fight, you can literally hear sexual cries for help if you listen closely. And yeah, the pistons pumping and torn skin walls also help sell it. It’s not overly subtle and it’s very disturbing and effective of telling what Angela went through.

Mayo is 100% wrong and your video does a good job of showing why. I actually had a response from him in one of my comments regarding maria's character and censorship, but i agree with what he said about the prompts
James head movement indicates very well what is interactable. That's how i recommended my buddy play it and he also didn't have a problem.
The game seems to be well designed enough to the point where the prompts aren't really needed and you get enough enviromental context to know what to interact with. You can play it both ways and enjoy it, but i'd argue turning them off gives you that same feeling as the OG did. Some games have the option to turn the UI and prompts off, but clearly aren't designed to be played that way. The remake allows for the two options to be viable, which is great, but i'd like if the prompts being off were the default setting because it really helps with the immersion.
As far as modern games go, it's one of the few ones that didn't really need the prompts.

Biggest issue in terms of voice acting no one talks about is James' voice imo. I have no idea how people can say new voice is as good as original James or better. Original James had a compassionate,young, cheerful, hopeful voice. That's why revelation at the end of the game hit hard. New James however sounds very ''neutral'' rather than ''good''. He even sounds antagonistic in some areas especially against Laura. This is a bigger issue than Maria's or Angela's voice actresses imo.

Personally speaking, I always found James' acting the the original to be outright terrible. He sounds completely unnatural in the same way that the acting in Resident Evil's 1-CV sounded off. Both had straight-up B movie tier acting. To be honest, that's how I feel about most of the original actors. The one exception being Monica Horgan as Mary/Maria.
James in SH2R on the other hand sounds like an actual human being. Don't get me wrong, there were definitely certain scenes where I wish the voice director got James' actor to emote a bit more, but at no point did the acting take me out it like James' original actor did constantly. Easily the biggest glow-up of the cast as far as I'm concerned.

I kept seeing og fans reeing that the vibe was gone & after checking for myself I kinda agree with them. Its not entirely gone but I feel the combat was too focused. Bloober made this awesome combat system & they wanted to get their works worth & I dont have a problem with that but half of my memories of the remake are just me dodging & swinging my wood plank, it does go on for quite a long time, the original is a bit tighter with what its trying to do.
The remake has phenomenal voice acting and I love James in particular. Its got great sound design & overall atmosphere, fantastic voice acting.
I feel like at least now folks have a choice of which experience they'd go for.

He is right on pacing, the remake is too long, it has the problem most modern games have of pointless padding.
I wouldn't really say the game was padded to a terrible degree. On the spectrum of AAA games, it's still pretty short, only taking about 13ish hours or so. The only real area that felt a bit padded was the Otherworld apartments, but that's mostly because the normal Apartments were already expanded on a ton.
I'm subbed to Mayo I like his content, I also think these criticisms are valid and good critiques of him as a creator. He has a good sense of humor and can have really well articulated criticisms like his critique of the castle in RE8, but he is also very frustrating at times and his opinions can make me bang my head against the wall.
Mayo is like a politician. When he dislikes something, instead of simply saying "it's not for me", he tries to elobarete why he doesn't like it and even fails to do that.

Whether it's better or worse than the original is subjective. But nothing has been "censored." People who only read surface-level context into things by dwelling on the obvious like that have no business critiquing something as cerebral and subtle as Silent Hill often is. I like mayo, I will say I don't agree with majority of his opinions but I do have to agree that Maria in the remake fell kind of flat for me. There's something about the original voice actor that just landed with me. Could be bias towards how much I love the original but I love the remake and the original but Maria just didn't land for me in the remake. Also, I have no idea what game that is in the video. To be honest, not knowing what it is has absolutely captured my attention, lol. Sometimes no context is more entertaining lol. Great video!

You missed the point on him complaining about the puzzles in the prison. Even though aspects of it are improved, the point is that the game is dragged to a proportion almost twice the length of the original. It also doesn't help that there are only 3 enemy types to fight and that the combat options are limited. Before you list off a bunch of variants of enemies claiming this isn't true; the most you could stretch the MAIN enemy variety to is 4, the lying figures and nurse variants are far to similar to the original to consider them anything exciting or interesting, the new mannequins are cool, but 1 more unique enemy for 2x the playtime isn't enough. Issues of enemy variety and limited combat would be fine if the game was the same length of the original, but its not, the systems and enemies integrated into the game aren't varied enough to make the extended runtime interesting and anything outside of padding. Another factor into this problem is the fact that the game encourages fighting enemies far more than in the original, making the combat even more repetitive.
I think the point in his video that irks me the most is how he claims that they removed the sexual themes, when the entirety of the reimagined Abstract Daddy fight shows otherwise. The surreal imagery that starts appearing in the arena throughout the fight invokes a disturbing form of sexual imagery, with stuff like the weird skin walls and the thrusting machinery. Hell, Abstract Daddy literally starts the fight by thrusting. I'm fully convinced he didn't even play the game with his eyes open if he missed that.
I'm very certain that Mayo is the kinda guy who made certain assumptions about what the remake would be (and what it wouldn't) and when it came out, his brain wouldn't let him register that he was actually wrong, even if he pretends to acknowledge it... there's always a caveat to the acknowledgement... a
"I was wrong but was I really?"
And when you fall into that mindset... your brain is actively looking for things to latch onto as criticism.
Like legitimately, his review of the remake reads like he didn't even like the original, as much as as he says he does, considering most of his criticism is just how the remake dared to expand not just thematically, but mechanically.

I don’t want Angela’s story to be in your face. That’s what made it so tastefully and maturely done in the OG. It was subtle.

What I find maddening about the remake is how much give and take it has going on. Great for a companion piece to the original, not so great when we know full-well people are NOT gonna go play the original after playing the remake despite being lifelong fans (sic). I love it, but I don't love it to the point where I'd say it replaces the original. At best I can say it's a companion piece and at the worst it's a demo of the experience the OG gives.
This makes it very hard to criticize properly, since because it turned out to not be a steaming pile of refuse, it's garnered what I can only describe as a cult of toxic positivity. Top comment says UtM is in his own Silent Hill, but I feel like I'm realizing I'm in mine, too. Where I got a game I genuinely liked and enjoyed but oop, its effects on the community and discourse are so awful it gives me a hankering for gunpowder and lead.
Edit: I have to disagree on the otherworld. It feels to bright, which is a problem every SH game past 1 has, but it's even worse here, and the design is MUCH too "silent hill 1". SH2's OG otherworld was so subtle you'd be forgiven for not realising it's gone off, but it slowly unveiled itself as you progressed. It also fed into this feeling of the sleeping dragon. To explain it: imagine silent hill as a dragon. In 1, the dragon is awake, and is thrashing about but you aren't its target. In 3, it's awake, older and wiser and worst of all, you ARE its target. In 2, meanwhile, it's been asleep for so long it's part of the landscape, and you don't even realize there's a dragon there when it lazily swipes in your general direction like a sleeping person to a fly. It was the point where you felt the smallest. In the remake that feeling's just gone.
I'd argue the original has just as much toxic positivity around it, people have rose tinted glasses and nostalgia so it's hard for them to be objective. Try to be more open minded towards the remake and see it as it's own thing

I am literally so tired of people complaining about Maria no longer being sexy and how she's "woke" now. Why? Because she doesn't have a small strip of her stomach showing? What???
I find it important to mention that I was introduced to Silent Hill through the remake, so not only do I not have any nostalgia tied to the OG outfit, but I also just don't like the original outfit. It's too crazy and distracting (not in a sexy way, but in a "it's too bright and there are too many patterns" way), more like something a teenager would wear rather than an adult woman. At least by today's standards. And I know the game came out at a different time, but from the perspective of a new player, the new outfit is far more grounded and mature. More skin doesn't necessarily make something more sexy. I actually think the new Maria is really sexy, uncomfortably. It's off-putting in a way that heightens the experience.
Going back to my teenager comment, how many women have you seen wearing crop tops? They're a lot more popular among the youth nowadays, particularly among teenage girls. The only reason I bring this up is that the concept of what is sexy and what is considered hot is changing, and it makes sense for the character designs to change with it.
And look. I like my sexy woman, I'm not immune to being upset with changes, like Lara Croft's weird, mesh tank top thing. But, while I understand to some extent, I do still think Maria is not a good example of that.

The remake added stuff, i as a veteran could enjoy when i know the original through and through on any difficulty. Mainly just brought the game back to life.
The only kinda off-thing is the voice direction and how the final bosses give you items. I've had like 15 healing items all the time even on hard with the remake.
Sh2 never felt like item management to me. If you concentrate on item and ammo management even a bit, you will have a huge stock towards the end.
I've also grinded the heck out of The dark souls trilogy so I've probably gotten pretty deep into real time combat strategies, so maybe It's just me.
Yeah and the new PH chase also watered down sucks. Scripted all the way through and no difficulty level effects.
The boat section is kind of a double edged sword. They made it very easy here.

It seems you didn't understand what he was getting at when he was talking about the remake's pacing. Under the Mayo doesn't think the combat is worse, he thinks the pacing is worse, and the fact the original was shorter and had less combat, is was far less *repetitive* and exhausting than the original. Less combat also allowed you to take in the environments more instead of always worrying about and fighting enemies. He isn't saying having bad combat would have been better, he's saying the game has too much combat and is too long. I think that point of his is justified.
Im actually in support mayo argument not because I like him but because I am a huge fan of Sh2 and honestly this remake is so forgettable.
Like speak what you want about the quality, the changes suck and the overral feel is not of the classic SH games but of the latest ones like Downpuour and Home coming and they were not even SH games at all they Just had the name on it
Also it flopped in sales, its still stuck in one million sales and it didnt even reach the all time high players that RE remakes have.
The remake is an overrated bloated sfw version devoid of anything that made the original unique and great. The only reason normies love it so much is because it does a decent job at ripping off modern RE and it's safe enough for journalists to give it raving reviews. Mayo is in the right in his critique.

Can't believe I'm saying this but, I am on the same boat under the mayo, I do feel like the game has alot of puzzles (thought I do enjoy them) and I'm finding myself fatigued running around and dreading the next area and have to put the game down alot, I've never finished SH2 classic because well disc was scratched, but I got to the prison in one sitting and it's taken me about 4 or 5 sitting in remake to the point I've had to leave it for a while, but to me the feel of the game feels too long..... Again for me, still a awesome game, mayo can go dry in the sun.

At least maria i would 100% agree, escpecially 2 things stood out for me. Her performance after her "death". I thought it was atrocious. Also her outfit, thats just censorship and i hate it. I have a few more nitpicks that i am too lazy zo name but other then that i thought it was a very decent game.

The veteran fans will tell you "that's the point! It's supposed to sound eerie and uncomfortable", like they believe that the devs did that on purpose when in reality, almost every video game had that level of voice acting back in the day.
There are spots where I flat out disagree when you say remake has better VA'ing, but in the parts where the remake has an objectively better acted line
it misses the point of that scene, and what the delivery was suppose to mean and how it was suppose to feel if you reflect it from the original.
I'd recommend you watch an excellent SH2 remake video from the controversial yet inquisitive Synthetic Man, he, from the perspective of someone who played the original SH2 time and time over, throughout the years, explains perfectly where the remake falls short and hits modern remake slop territory while being, imo, fair to its' positive traits as well (there aren't a great deal of them)
