I think the point in his video that irks me the most is how he claims that they removed the sexual themes, when the entirety of the reimagined Abstract Daddy fight shows otherwise. The surreal imagery that starts appearing in the arena throughout the fight invokes a disturbing form of sexual imagery, with stuff like the weird skin walls and the thrusting machinery. Hell, Abstract Daddy literally starts the fight by thrusting. I'm fully convinced he didn't even play the game with his eyes open if he missed that.

I’m starting to question if Mayo even likes video games at all… 😅 And about the whole Angela complaint he has about it being too subtle or wtv, it was very subtle in the OG game too, the only part it’s not subtle is when she says after the fight “force me like he always did”. And I’d argue having the closet there in the boss fight which is a safe zone from the boss and if you look around it looks like where Angela would hide from her father, man that’s way darker and more visceral. I don’t want Angela’s story to be in your face. That’s what made it so tastefully and maturely done in the OG. It was subtle.

I was listening to this as I'm doing my math exam, and man, I love the use of the Caretaker. I absolutely adore the album, and its so amazing to see it getting recognition. I also feel so fascinated by the way you voiced over Jenny and Sophie! You did so well with it, put so much emotion into it, and it felt like it was just apart of the series. This whole video is just a master piece, and its an amazing watch while going through a Walten FIles phase once again.

I stopped watching Mayo's content a while ago for a lot of the reasons you listed. I did watch his Silent Hill video because it showed up in my recommended section and was pulling my hair out for most of it.

I think the real spin of the walten files is "what if William Afton was a true family man and loved his kids?", because Jack is often described as imposing and prone to anger issues, but he deeply cared about his kids. Thing is, i suspect Felix shot him, knowing he was a danger and ironically killed unintentionally all the walten family (jack being kinda intentional but more for self defense despise his own actions). And Bon being Jack but full of lust for revenge and retribution, wanting to reunite rosemary with their dead children Molly and Ed, and finally... Sophie

you’re a very entertaining youtuber which makes the plasticine and unrealistic writing of this series bearable which i’m grateful for 😭 idk if i’m just a nitpicker or what have you but realism is important in a series a creator is trying to pass off as real and no one speaks like a person here. hella wasn’t popularized in the slang lexicon until the mid-late 90s and only existed in norcal slang before then. sophie sounds like a lets player, not a person playing an arcade cabinet. why does she tell us the pills are making her forget her teenage and childhood years? why mention the pills at all? she’s alone in a basement, contextually. why does linda feel the need to mention what felix said he was doing that day? i feel like this series would’ve done so much better if the exposition was given in a more human manner, but as it stands the believability is hindered deeply by the way the author is trying to beat you over the head with information spoken by people who are clearly feeding you exposition and have no other purpose.

The 2018 film was good though

For a while up until ep 4, I thought that the reason Jack was missing was because he was in Bon- not that he was controlling Bon, just that he was either inside him physically being kept in a state of undeath/his consciousness was just tethered to it and being made (intentionally or not) to watch the rest of his family and employees be picked off one by one while Felix attempted to buttfumble running the company and having the Bon-bot tie up loose ends. Now? Fuck if I know, Bon is a? Demon? Or another ghost??

What I find maddening about the remake is how much give and take it has going on. Great for a companion piece to the original, not so great when we know full-well people are NOT gonna go play the original after playing the remake despite being lifelong fans (sic). I love it, but I don't love it to the point where I'd say it replaces the original. At best I can say it's a companion piece and at the worst it's a demo of the experience the OG gives. This makes it very hard to criticize properly, since because it turned out to not be a steaming pile of refuse, it's garnered what I can only describe as a cult of toxic positivity. Top comment says UtM is in his own Silent Hill, but I feel like I'm realizing I'm in mine, too. Where I got a game I genuinely liked and enjoyed but oop, its effects on the community and discourse are so awful it gives me a hankering for gunpowder and lead. Edit: I have to disagree on the otherworld. It feels to bright, which is a problem every SH game past 1 has, but it's even worse here, and the design is MUCH too "silent hill 1". SH2's OG otherworld was so subtle you'd be forgiven for not realising it's gone off, but it slowly unveiled itself as you progressed. It also fed into this feeling of the sleeping dragon. To explain it: imagine silent hill as a dragon. In 1, the dragon is awake, and is thrashing about but you aren't its target. In 3, it's awake, older and wiser and worst of all, you ARE its target. In 2, meanwhile, it's been asleep for so long it's part of the landscape, and you don't even realize there's a dragon there when it lazily swipes in your general direction like a sleeping person to a fly. It was the point where you felt the smallest. In the remake that feeling's just gone.
