- This is the video comprised of three shows filmed at the Royal Albert Hall in England during the "vs. The World" tour for the Mind Bomb album. I believe it was also available in PAL format, but I'm not entirely sure. It was directed by Tim Pope and the quality of picture and sound are quite good.
Love all the positive comments,
I thought I was only one back in tha day
That appreciated the greatness
Of a one of a kind
TALENT
Still sends chills up my spine in 2022...
"Should I cry like a baby or die like a man
when all the planet's little wars start joining hands...."
Dude Do u get it too.these 😮voices inner voice..But thru The Creativeness of lyrics n great music...this can b the results..Easily one of the best Singer's +'Songcreators..from Manchester..that I feel privileged to of x paths with...Mr Marr is meant to be.there..No HankY Panky need apply..OK.. it's the c.process..The The Matt took a Damm fine run @'Hiram HANK.Williams..y that's so bold..u know.lll.from a s hole twn DUNEDIN. S.I NUE ZILDJIAN. Or N.Z.❤😂🎉😢😮😅😊
Lyrics that are nearly prophetic...
When i bought this lp, i realized it was about the first gulf war. But the whole track resonates the madness of war as we see it now
Infected came out 6 years before Operation Desert Storm
I saw them in Glasgow on this tour and Marr was the business....truly one of the best gigs ever. We need The The now more than ever!
formidaveis!
I’m 50, I first listened to The The thanks to my sisters boyfriend in the late 80’s. I’ve never let Matt go, I probably listen to their music every week. It’s become part of my dna, and I’m better for it ❤
The The. Almost unknown all of these decades later. Exceptional band (so good that Johnny Marr spent 6 years with them). Matt Johnson's songwriting always top notch. I still can't understand why they didn't do better at the time (not to mention now).
What was his period there?
Because as with so many of the true greats they are so good that they’re beyond on the comprehension of the majority of music fans. Which as cliched as that may sound, you can’t get a bigger compliment than that as people like Matt would never have been able to release all the utterly magical songs he has if he sold his creative soul to the corporate devil like so many artists do at some point. Which is another reason why he still has such a dedicated following and the songs are still so pertinent and timeless. ❤️
@@Dan76Rock I agree in 2021,but I would have thought they'd have done much better in the 80's. They may simply have not been trendy enough because the music is certainly within the 80's arena. Did John Peel give them any decent exposure? The only reason I ever heard them at all was via college radio. Perhaps Matt Johnson turned down the opportunity to sell out at that time? Soul Mining was a great debut album, but I will confess that the opening track is my least favourite. Every other song (including the bonus "Perfect") are gold to me. The greatest irony is that it initially did modestly well (#27), but then went gold in 2019! That's a mind bender in itself.
@@steelyman08 I know exactly what you mean about them not reaching the heights they truly should have and as you rightly say they have finally started to achieve the sales and accolades they fully deserve. I think there are probably a few reasons the music world took a while to realise how great their music is but the big one for me is that they were way ahead of their time.
The underlying anger towards politics and so many perfectly expressed through sometimes very poetic lyrics but also straight talking harsh personal and social truths are just as pertinent in today’s world, if not more so. I guess the other major element is, like so many artists I love, they couldn’t be be put in a particular genre, so the media and record companies never really have a clue what to say about them or how to promote them in their usual stereotypical ways. But as you referenced and exactly how I feel Matt would never have wanted to be pigeonholed anyhow. He’s done it his own way and gained far more respect and credit for being brave and talented enough to do that.
@@Dan76Rock Right with you. Hey, thanks for taking the time to actually comment with intelligence & knowledge, etc. That's a rare commodity on YT these days as well. "The Beaten Generation" is just so incredibly apt! Yes. His music & songwriting falls into no genre, and is far more advanced than the new wave/punk movement, etc. Take care.
October 24. Brilliant band
I vividly remember lying on my sofa as a teenager.... watching the Tube show....they were doing a The The special....they made me sit up....and pay attention.....wow!!!! 2024 still listening and loving
First heard 1983!!!.thought I was the only one that got it!!!,how wrong!!!!🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴
first heard 2022. lol I'm 72 and love it!
Fuck! you look at Johnson throughout the times from Infected to Mind Bomb and he seams to be in a heightened state of prophetic awareness. His stuff not only resonates right now, powerfully! its way more relevant than it was on its release. Awesome pre-cog! Genius artist!
Cocaine’s a helluva drug!
I love the way the bass and drums drive the beats on 'The The' songs, giving Johnny and Matt the room to express their talents. Even when you haven't listened to their stuff for years, it never dates. In my top 5 bands.
So great. All of the songmanship.
Slowdive & The The are the pinnacle ❤
Matt Johnson got me through some tough times. Love his band and his immense talent.
The most impending doom like menacing intros ever recorded.that just builds and builds into a hoffifying tale that we see now being played out today in the world....

I have it on VHS but too poor quality to watch these days :( I was lucky enough to record it when it was shown on tv in the 80's. Would love to see it in its entirety again.
I just love the “Gulf of Arabia”...and yes “I have an urgent warning”
I am mr. eclectic- eagles, il divo, kiss, beatles, but THE THE are the bollocks- loved them since the 80s

you might get it on ebay, I have a copy but it's pretty knackered, played to death, I have tried to transfer it to DVD but not brilliant. Sony will not release it on DVD.
i plan on getting the laserdisc and a laserdisc player solely for it haha

Every statement and comment fails by not notating the actual date of this event. The date is all important. And what was proformed is second.
I saw this show in Toronto at The Concert Hall - I will never ever forget it. PURE SEX!
They *hate* it 💚🎶👍
Johnny F***ing Marr.
Man with the golden 'monica.
i can't believe the camera crew didn't have a camera on Matt until near the end.
