If your buying from goodwill don't bid on line before you check shipping cost. I buy guitars all the time for 15 but shipping can be 40 or more. They also have a handling fee usually 5 dollars

Sometimes. I always use the estimate shipping feature and if it's over $25 or $30 I will pass. Sometimes you can get shipping for around $15.

Actually my wife and I both have The Donner Guitars 🎸 Seeker Series which has the same neck & tuners as the 400 however the body is infact Bass 🪵 . & The pickups are Cermaic. Alnico pickups can either have the poll magnetized or can have glued on magnets. Just the magnet is alnico. Ceramic pickups in general work better for Rock & Metal.. however theres a ton of variables. We both have 2 each of the Seeker Sires which I believe is the DST 152. All 4 guitars were Kits we purchased them on Amazon with coupons and they were on sale plus shipping was free. They at the time we purchased them didn't have an option to buy them with out the kit. That being said. There's a lot of MINI AMPS currently on the market. & Donner is well known for theit pedals. So the amp has good features that work beautifully. The small amps are perfect for beginners since beginners don't sound great. & Most people would crank the amp & listen for tone. Next we use the 5 Watt amp for practice when on vacation camping. The amp is great for vacations since it fits nicely in a suitcase. It's rechargeable which is great if you interested in playing with friends around the campfire etc..We live in an Agriculture area with a huge distance between neighbors. So we can crank a 20 Watt amp which is 4X louder than a 5 watt amp or our 80 watt amps or we both also have 2 each 100 Watt amps. Which are loud.. especially when you connect 2 together. However if you live in a townhouse a close single family house a condo an apartment. Than you can't not CRANK THE AMPLIFIER. So it works great in those places as well. Plus you can connect head phones or speakers to the amp thus it could be louder. We also both recently each purchased the Donner Arena 2000 multi effects pedals. Which contain pedal sims amp sims speaker cab sim's. As well as its a portable recording studio.& Great for Gigs. & has drum sims. 🔵 Bluetooth technology. You can use it as a pedal or run it to your cell 📲 phone or tablet hookup on 🎤 mic Stand.or run tru a laptop 💻 or PC. My wife also purchased a Donner foldable keyboard 🎹 piano which is great for traveling. We each have full size ones and I have a mdi board as well. The DST has beautiful fret work. However all 4 guitars required a setup to intonate the guitars properly. But a beginner would not need to do that. We lowered the action. Pickups are typically the first thing people change. So the Donner works great for mod platform. I do feel like the pickups are fine for a beginner and intermediate player. Glarry Guitars aee typically the ones to modify since you can get new ones seasonally on sale for between $40 to $80. some come with kits at the $70 & $80 mark. They need fret work new Tuners new electronics. The electronics are fine for beginners with Glarry. But Frets are terrible. & They definitely need work at every level to play properly. So Donner is a better deal for a beginner. Just watching a TH-cam video on properly setting up a guitar & your done for Glarry.Which is or can be an issue with beginners but it's actually easy. Cheers 🍻 🥃🥃 🎸🎵🎶 🎶🎶

How would you rate the dst-400 against the squire Affinity? The reason I ask is that you can find the Affinity cheaper than the Donner on their website and it seems like the affinity might be a better buy.

Well, the DST is an Alder body. I think Rosewood fretboard. Alnico pickups. The semi transparent green if beautiful. They are not available right now on Donners site. You can find them on eBay and Reverb. I wouldn’t pay more than $200 for it. But they are a very solid guitar. The pickups are very vintage sounding. Overall a great guitar.

@@JayceAllanGuitar I was just curious which would be better for the money so it sounds like you’re saying the donner is equipped better than the affinity? Forgive me if I’m misunderstanding you. And thanks for the reply.

Well, yes and no. If things like Alnico pickups and Alder body mean something to you, then yes. Many people associate Alder body with better tone and Alnico pickups with quality. Also, I like a Rosewood fretboard over maple for looks. But then, you may want the "Fender" brand name. Personally I think you get more for your money with the DST400

Those cast saddles are par for the course on budget guitars.

I prefer the bent steel, but that's because I like the vintage looks of them.

Basswood can be on the heavy side. My Donner 100 is definitely basswood and it's not lightweight. It has become a great mod platform. Refinished it and resculpted the neck and headstock and replaced everything else.

The density can vary, must depend on the age of the tree, etc. The very first telecaster I built was basswood, super easy to tool but didn't hold screws well. Had a really cheap strat one time that felt like Balsa wood it was soo light!

@@JayceAllanGuitar one thing I'll do is flood some thin CA glue in those screw holes to strengthen them. Basswood sucks it up like a sponge. Be careful getting water in those basswood holes because it will expand and crack the finish in a blink of your eye.

Dont waste your time modding guitars. Life is too short. Go out and buy a qaulity instrument when you are able and spend your time playing.
