I could never get used to this in the new model S either. Kept looking down all the time. Almost crashed a couple of times because of it, so eventually I just stopped using the turn signals because it was such a hassle in tight roundabouts. It only works well when going straight. Just watched "Ryans Model Y" channel where he did an "effortless" 7 point U turn using the screen Drive/Reverse command. 7 times his concentration went from outside the car to the screen and back. I do the same in my "stalked" Model Y and not once does my concentration leave looking at the surroundings. No amount of practice will get you used to changing directions via the screen without losing concentration outside. Another safety feature "upgrade" from Tesla??

Good demonstration of the buttons for left & right signal turn. When one is on 3 o’clock turn in a roundabout for instance, you wouldn’t want to look at the wheel to get the signal to turn left into the left lane, a good easy feel of the button (a pretty bulging and large button) would assist heaps. Be honest. How many times did you look at the buttons before pressing them on this trip? Then you take your had completely off the wheel to push the button. I haven't looked a a turn signal stalk in the last 50 years. It is always where I expect it to be and easy to find and operate without looking and without taking more than my little finger off the wheel.
TBH that looked like a bloody nightmare. You had to look at the wheel to find out which button to press. The roundabouts were quite big too, so the wheel was only 1/2 a turn. Try a tighter roundabout and it'll be dangerous. Surprised this is even legal. What a stupid idea.
i suspect the things that make it easy is that the buttons are stacked such that you will always press the one on the direction you're about to turn the wheel. i.e., turn wheel left you press the bottom button, turn right you press the top. so even if the buttons are upside down on the other side, you can still just press the one that corresponds to the direction you're about the move the wheel.
Well, imagine you would be driving on the right side of the road and you would have to exit the roundabout like in test 5, for example. The buttons would be on the lower side of the wheel.

However, don't worry, less chance for accident, thanks to auto detect collision system. For others, go to Cyberjaya, book a time, test drive model 3 and then model Y. It is night and day with signal stalk which available in model Y. That's why you will feel comfortable with model Y.

I have never heard anyone praising Ferrari for those buttons, mostly people thinking it's dumb, but not important since no one daily drives their Ferrari, they take it to the track or around town every blue moon. Tesla Model 3 is a daily driver, so the issue is much more glaring. I understand how they came up with it, Tesla is an American company, and USA has virtually no roundabouts, so it's a non issue there. Other markets could have issues though.
Ferrari did a better job than Tesla, they at least put the buttons on either side of the steering wheel. And even so it's far from a good design choice, just less important in a super sports car than it is in a daily driver.

Tesla: "You are holding it wrong". The turn signal w/o stalk seems to be yet another "Apple moment" for Tesla. The next one will most likely be the fact, that all 2024 year model Teslas having reduced range. "8 GB RAM is enough for you." -> "You do not need 300 miles effective range."

This video is a COMPLETE waste of time, please don't waste time trying to get anything out of it.. this guy didn't properly test the indicator buttons while the steering wheel was upside down or turned around 1,5 times like in many places in Europe. Clicking the button BEFORE the wheel is turned upside down makes it an unrealistic test compared to Europe!
Why have buttons on the roof to change gears when you can have a stalk. Still needed a physical mechanism. The problem for me is that you’re likely to take your eyes off the road. I was planning to add another tesla to the fleet but held off. I don’t want to worry everytime a family member takes the stalkless car out and has a moment of panic because something didn’t work the way it was suppose to 😅

Buttons are fixing a problem that didn't exist, but if they had to do it, they should have put right turn on the back side of the right side of the wheel, and left turn on the rear of the left side, with buttons that have an L and R that you can feel.
Thank you for highlighting the use of the stalks on roundabouts. The key is to use 2 hands. Everyone will know when the steering wheel is upside down so as long as they can feel the slight bump separating the indicators then they will know which one to press when entering and exiting a roundabout. Try a left turn on a 3-4 lane speed roundabout into a direct left turn after exiting, have fun searching for your buttons while continously checking your blind spots for traffic while moving through the lanes. Maybe have a go at dual lane figure 8 roundabouts or some mini-roundabouts, even regular roundabouts should be fun with this setup.. You don't have to move your eyes though. If you have both hands on the wheel, you will find the ridge for the indicators and based on the direction of the wheel, will press the appropriate signal. @Uchejnr I'm sorry but I have major brainfarts if I want to adjust volume or quickly change a song on the steering wheel if it's not at a normal angle (150 degrees turned or something), this simply will never work for me without my brain having to work extra processing cycles for no reason. But if it works for you that's great, I'm still not convinced this will ever become mainstream and will probably create a major backlash when more and more people start to drive this model 3 and accidents are starting to happen because people are to busy figuring out button positions :)

If you look closely at 11:18 the AEB kicked in even when the car hasn’t crossed the line. This kicked in way earlier than what we experienced with the BYD.
Tesla knows their target customers. They have genius marketing team. Taking away those basic components ie stalks, shades etc and selling it as a 3rd party accessories are big brain money move. But people who can afford RM 200k car wouldn't mind getting rip off of few hundred RM, as long as they can be seen driving a Tesla. I think the AIO screen that controls everything from driving to opening glove box is not a good idea. Technology should be developed to convenience the people. I would imagine the inconvenience of people who use reading glasses but not necessarily use them while driving, when looking at those tiny fonts in the screen.

But in real life, drivers will be very busy navigating the roundabout and traffic and finding the signal button would be of least priority.

People just need to see this video to understand how it works because there is no other way to use the indicators. I think people feel it's complicated but he's now shown how it works. All that's left is for people to try for themselves to then decide if it's really for them.
Turn signals are not just about going in and exiting roundabouts. Just take a mute button on the steering wheel to start with (many cars has it), try do a 3 point turn or U-turn and find out where the button is in different situations while driving. And come-on, we all took our driving tests and been driving with the signal stalks for years, there are good reasons why signal stalks remain in position when the steering wheel is turning. One stalk alone conveniently controls lights, high beams and signal itself - remember ?
