Thanks so much Nicole. I love making this too. You can do so much with it. It's becoming an ingredient as well as a product in my line. Fun stuff. :)Jen
So great that your daughter is interested soap and bath products too. I taught my son to make soap last year, and he helped me fill orders all last summer. It was nice this year with Covid that he was able to work with me to make soap all summer. It’s always so nice to pass on a skill like soap making to the next generation.
That is awesome! I love it. We do need to preserve these arts. With Covid we are learning that things are not always available at the store and it is okay if we can make them ourselves. I will never need to buy liquor again due to the pandemic alcohol shortage since I can make my own sugarshine for sanitizer for example. A few flavorings and I can make any kind of liquor or extract, 😂. Who would have thought that my essential oil distiller and hydrosol maker also distills alcohol? It did not even occur to me when I bought them, but now I have a new skill. Hardship sometimes really can make us stronger, smarter and better people. Stay safe Kali Cat! 💖Jen
Yes it does with all that stearic acid. It's so creamy and whips up nicely too. I got a very light package from Texas today! The kids didn't tell me it came in the mail yesterday. I can't wait to unbox it and hopefully put the lovely treat on my tree. Thanks so much Santa Patrick! You are the best! :)Jen
You're so right! It does look like condensed milk! Just before I turn it into the yummiest carmel for a carmel whip pie... wow, I haven't made one of them for years.... my age is showing lol
l have never seen this made from beginning to end Jen. l will never make it but l know that if l wanted to l could give it ago. l should never say never as they say though. Happy New Year.
Happy New Year Jen!! Wow... this is some funky and cool looking soap! Lol ; ) Is this just a base to make other products since the texture is so strange in its original state? Does the texture change after the complete curing and how long did it take? But I do remember when u did use this in the other video...Duh! LOL ; ) Have a great New Years day...we will be having ham, black eyed peas, fried cabbage, scallop potato's and corn bread!! Don't forget the lil chunk of raw onion and hot pepper that ya have to take a bite of with every spoon of peas and dipping the cornbread in the juice!! Oh Yeah girl!! : ) I use to laugh at the superstitions but have to stick to them! LOL We have to eat pork so we can "root" forward this year...NO chicken because that means we would "scratch" backwards!! Haha My grandma had another superstition for today too... we CANNOT wash clothes today either, it is "BAD" luck!! Dang, I hate that I can't wash clothes today! Haha Oh, I won't either, my grandma would roll over in her grave. ; ) I need to get to cooking hun!! Big ((Hugs)) and Love from Texas!! xoxoxo : )
I have had a hoot reading all of your wonderful comments Kelly! Thanks so much for the love. This is so cute! All these things are sure to keep out the bad luck, how could they not? LOL. You made me drool a bit from that spread you described (and my tummy is full of finger foods from grazing all day LOL). I really like your grandma's tradition, any excuse to not do house work it tots in my book. Big hugs back at ya hon! xoxooxJen
You're amazing Jen! I think like you about the business and the kids running it more than one generation, but with my HVAC business, but we have girls, so maybe a son in law??? Hahaha! Full watch for everything sweetheart
LOL! Yep, I couldn't quit playing with this stuff. I LOVE making it. Just give yourself some time for it to saponify before creating with it. Let me know how it goes? You're gonna love it :)Jen
You wrote a book? Tell me more about that. Cursive will be the secret language for old people because kids won't be able to read it. SO SAD!! I was thinking the exact same thing about the consistency. Just lovely
Renee Cormalis- Soaps For Love -I tell my 17 year old son to learn to read cursive and he’ll have a skill many people won’t have. It’ll be like people who can read Latin; or long-lost languages. He’ll be able to translate old letters, diaries, and many archival materials.
I've been compiling my recipes for years. About 15 years ago (about 6 years into soaping) I decided to share some of my formulas and start teaching other's how to make soap. I did 'crafting parties' and we made soap, bath bombs etc. So many people asked for my recipes I compiled a book of my treasures. My brother is working on edits and I hope to make it interactive which would be awesome. Finding time is the biggest issue but eventually I hope to have it available again digitally. Of course there are tons more content which will make it extra special. The cream soap is super fun. LMK if you make it? BTW--I'm doing a happy dance! I got your amazing collection of soapy goodies and can't wait to open them up and enjoy them. They look fabulous! Thank you so much my sweet wonderful soapy friend. You are a super soapy star! Gorgeous job. Lots of love xoxoxoJen
You are a busy woman!! I'm not the adventurous type so for me even making soap was a big leap. I would like to eventually but no room to store more ingredients. With all the herbs and containers and soaping stuff, I'm plum out of space. You are most welcome for your little gift. Love to you too dear friend.
I have never had taffy (that I remember) but that looks the perfect consistency and silkinees of proper homemade besciamella that my nona used to make... Darn now I am hungry lol!
Very nice..but dear when exectly i can measure the ph ..after 2 weeks and if its highrlt how i put the citric acid ..i dissolve it with little water or just like that powder ? I need to try this lovely soap
You can add citric acid to water to dissolve it first. A little water will not make your cream soap to runny. I would start testing at 1 month. It is lovely to work with and whips up like a dream. Good luck and LMK if you need any troubleshooting! ❤️Jen
please can you show us a pic of how the final product looks...love the final cream product you made (inserted pic)...please show us how u made that from this base ...thankyou in advance and tahnkyou also for sharing this method
I will be doing a lot of work with this base so stay tuned for the whipped version. I basically just whip it up, add fragrance and colorant and pipe it into the jar just like a foaming bath whip formula. It's brilliant and soap based instead of detergent. I made a whipped soap icing for the last cookie of the cookie count down if you are interested in seeing the cured soap. Here is a link to that video th-cam.com/video/VfBzErAGDlE/w-d-xo.html
@@JenSpice ill definitely keep my eyes peeled.can you tell me how mild is the cold process version....i found the hot process version with or without stearic to be quite harsh...thats why i gave up on this method of cream soap even though its much more natural. i found without enough stearic in the hp method the peaks didnt hold well when it was finally whipped.so i am very looking forward to seeing your results.
Thank you so much Julier. I use a vegetable based shortening (similar to Crisco) the brand I use is Sunspun. It's got a lot of soy. Good luck and LMK if you make it :)Jen
YES! This is just like it but made from oils instead of detergent. How cool is that? You can substitute other oils if you don't like using RBO (it has a shorter shelf life but I had a ton so was playing with it--I do love it though. ). I've been able to whip it up and make a foaming bath whip and will be making some sugar scrubs too. I made the meringue 'cookie' soaps with this stuff for the Soapmas Cookie Countdown (last cookie). Just stick to the 25% NaOH 75% KOH and put your favorite oiis through your favorite calculator. LMK if you make some??? Good luck Michelle :)Jen
I do add a high pH tolerant broad spectrum preservative. Germall Plus works up to a pH of 10 and is widely available. Stay within manufacturers recommended range (.1-.5 %). I find the minimum amount is sufficient for my creations. Chelators are also nice in this one to keep the oils fresh. I use tetrasodium EDTA 15 grams (about a teaspoon) per pound of oils.
hi there ...thanks for sharing...really love your soap ..its gorgeous...i have a few questions tho...did you not need to use glycerine? also in ur insert picture u showed a vanilla soap ..does this discolor without a stabilizer?
Thank you so much. No need to add additional glycerin, this is a oil and hydroxide based soap and glycerin is produced naturally during the chemical reaction. You can of course add more glycerin. Most liquid vanilla soap do discolor to a dark golden color like corn syrup. You do not need to use as much fragrance oil so discoloration is less than you will typically see for a solid soap. Since the soap paste is generally diluted down by 75% you get an even lighter hue when you come to the thickening stage. Preservative is needed so pick one with high pH tolerability and a good broad spectrum protection from mold and bacterial growth. Good luck!
Sorry, I did not see this question. Crisco. Any vegetable based solid shortening should work. I have tried several brands and they all work fine. Hope this helps? 💖Jen
I love making cream soap for shaving. This is amazing. You are really just amazing at this.

Crisco is a brand of shortening found easily in North America. Any vegetable based solid shortening should work as well.
