Aye up lass, cracking video and great to see ya on canals. Before commercials there was naught else and to see a talented youngster like yourself perfecting the art is marvellous. 👍👍
That looks like a great bit of fun! There is no prettier fish than a hand sized roach! Roach on emp, one of life’s intricacies yet the feeling can be electric! Great video thanks!
I agree with you that once you get the roach feeding on hemp it can get crazy and they do seem to become addicted to the stuff. Its got to be the most underrated bait ever and its especially good in the warmer weather for some reason. Love your tip regarding it staying on the hook and I'm amazed I've not heard of this before .
Quality video, I've always left Hemp as just feed as I could never hook it properly, perfect little tip and I'll be trying it soon, cheers and tight lines Scott
thats a nice net of roach! i use hemp for my carp an tench fishing, but only as feed. this method i will have to try. love your videos. you have a lot of knowlegde and skill. keep making content, so i can become a better angler. much respect from Denmark
Thats not sad Kayleigh thats dedication to your sport.Regarding your pole, thats a huge piece of kit for a little lass ! six hours weilding that thing, must be truly knackering ✌❤ Bob
I use to fish my local Lea. It was pretty industrial. There was a fella whom we use to see on opposite bank to us, he was always there. We called him hemp man. He'd winkle out roach all day. On our side of the bank we would catch small UNs like gudgeon and the like. Good ol days.
Hemp is a good time saver two on the hook. Had loads of fish on i pieace if its hooked right and the fish dont crush it. Hemps great on the junky two some cracking hydrids and quality roach over a pound.
You have the Birmingham and Worcester canal. Brilliant venue with an abundance of quality roach from the M6 south through Warndon (great roach fishing) through to the city.
Arms on my fleece are long as well. Nice video, i never fish canals or past September when we get bak from Whiteacres. Thursday i will put my fleece on and see how i get on.
great video kayleigh roach are my no1 fish i was brought up catching them and still i would rather have a 20 lb net of roach than a 100 lb bag of carp any day
Numpty question , but if are there no roach to be had on a shorter line? If an angler sat across the canal on the far bank, would they think it necessary to fish on your side ?
Must give this a real try next year. Kayleigh does it go off in the colder weather, or improve. I did think hemp was a summer bait? Great video. well shot, sound good, nice moment. Thanks RB.
Hi Kayeigh. Great video. How do you prepare your Hemp for the hook bait please. Do you soak before cooking? I've got a bag to try from the tackle shop. Kind regards Paul. ( Suffolk)
I generally soak it during the day and then I put it in a flask overnight, and it comes out just starting to split, I’ve done it without soaking before but it seems to take a bit longer to cook
Back in the 1970's and 80's you could buy larger hemp, which would easily stay on an 18-22 hook, I boiled my own and kept the juice to mix the groundbait, hemp and even tares were deadly on some stretches of the River Lea in Hertfordshire.
You can still buy large hemp from pet/animal feed stores . I get mine in a 15 kilo bag which doubles up when soaked and boiled. Often I grill /toast it and run it through a blender/coffee grinder to enhance my bread crumb & blended pellet ground bait.
@@JollyRogerification thanks for that, as I am now seriously old, i tend to only use bait I can eat myself, 😂, corn meat bread peas, cheese, and a good floating carp bait ? Cheese puffs, or baked cheese puffs
Hi Kayleigh, I have not watched all your vids yet, but it would be good to see how you "rig up" for each venue, I have plummets but very rarely use them unless I visit a new venue, as I store venue settings in my head, (float type, depth of venue, depth to fish, shot patterns, bait etc), I have "standard" set up I use, what size hook do you use when match fishing canals in your area, and for hemp ?
Nice one. I'd like to pay a compliment. However, the last time I did that, I was told it made me look very bad!! Some people live to ruin your day. Anyway, thanks for the lessons on undercooking the seeds. I'd never thought of that. Good tip.
Hi Kayleigh, what length pole are you using in this vid?, And how far across are you, I used pole about 40 years ago, but prefer rod and reel, although I have a 5 mtr whip, I have mastered the "underhand flick" and can put my H,L,&S exactly where I want them
Was this filmed on a Sunday by any chance? (random question) but the Drax train that went past in the background goes by a local fishery I fish on a Sunday (nr Leeds) and never see it any other day. Sad I know haha
Kayleigh I see a lot of the Preston anglers using the f1 fine or f1 maggot over the chianti for silvers(I love the chianti!) what makes you favour this float over the others? Cheers
It’s a cane tip in a chianti so it a bit more sensitive for silvers, I do set up a f1 maggot/fine when the light is bad as hollow bristles are easier to see then but prefer a chianti when conditions are right
Nice one kayleigh a quick question do you think the stamp of fish on the stainy has improved over the last few years? The size of roach seem to have definitely got better
Yes it seems to go in cycles for some reason the last couple of years the smaller 1oz fish seem to have grown or not been there in numbers, seems to be a better stamp. no idea where these tench have come from over last few years though
Do you use traditional slip elastic for winter silvers or have you moved over to duraslip? Does the decent depth help with the hemp working through winter or would you also expect it to be worth a go on a shallower venue? Great vids 👍
Yes it should work fine on shallow venues aswell as long as there are plenty of roach, I generally use the hybrid slip in a 5 for bigger stamp roach but if the average was smaller I would use the normal slip elastic as it’s a bit softer in the smaller grades
@@KayleighDowdFishing nice, I tried fishing the Rochdale canal with a feeder rod and sweetcorn twice lately (cold) didnt get 1 bite but a few line knocks from small roach... oof

Some cracking roach there Kayleigh, great to see. Also relieved to see that women can have just as much kit as us daft lads.
I dont fish any canals but still great tips throughout. I havent fished with Hemp since my Trent days. Thank you young lady. Quality tips

Exellent video thoroughly enjoyed, nice to see a quality angler who know's their stuff
Keep it lit.👍 and stay safe

Well presented video, will definitely try hemp as a hook bait and not just a feed. Thanks.
Great advice on hooking Hemp, I usually avoid it on the hook through losses, feed Hemp and Caster on the hook but I will try this :)
very enjoyable vid kaleigh, wish we had a s&k canal down here in the midlands. never stop what you do, keep safe.

Awesome talent from England International and FishOMania Winner Kayleigh, if I had half this lady's talent, I'd be ten times the Angler I am.🤙👋

Another great video Kayleigh. Some quality stamp roach there and tips. I use the same tactics on the Wensum in winter with tares and caster. 👍

If anything it gets better as it gets colder. Find where the roach are and have ago. You will not be disappointed 😁
Nice bag of fish Kayleigh

@@KayleighDowdFishing Hi Kayleigh, thanks for the reply,
Where do u buy dry hemp that ends up bigger than tin cooked hemp? My hemp I buy is tiny
Hinders giant chinese hemp is ok but it's often out of stock. Unfortunately decent hemp is hard to get hold of
My dad always said if you find a girl that can catch fish on hemp, marry her!! ;-)
I married my angel because she had worms !! lol. That was 35 tears ago, and I've yet to get them on my hook.
Hmmm. Interesting. My dad said the same thing. Are you my brother? Is your father from Russia?
I guess I am pretty randomly asking but do anybody know a good site to stream newly released movies online?
@Roberto Elias I would suggest flixzone. Just search on google for it =)
@Colton Archie yea, have been using FlixZone for since april myself :D

Yes it was 😊
@@KayleighDowdFishing Haha thank you! for clearing up what was a randomly weird question
While waiting for the hemp lines to develop what other lines would you fish at this time of the year on the canal?
On here a bread line is always good for small fish
Super video Kayleigh .....again,some cracking Roach .
Do you use any additives to your hemp?
Staysafe and keep sharing.
No I don’t use any additives it’s just plain hemp
What length is your pole?
Hi,where do you buy your hemp for the hook, great video TIA.
Just from the local tackle shop, most will probably sell uncooked hemp i imagine. if not you will be able to get it online
Hi Kayleigh, I've bought hemp on line and when you receive it it's to small for the hook so I've got 20kg of hemp for feeding lol.

Hi Kayleigh, which hemp do you prefer to use, boil your own or the ready to use tin variety, cheers
Happy to feed either, tinned is harder to hook with it being more split so always take some of my own for the hooking
Thank you Kayleigh,stay safe
What size/model hook were you using Kayleigh ?
18 N-40
@@KayleighDowdFishing Thanks Kayleigh. I'm not a fan of barbed hooks but the profile and length of shank look perfect for hemp.

where do you buy the big hemp you cook, to use on the hook?
I just get it from local tackle shop they sell it uncooked
@@KayleighDowdFishing try ebay pal specificly list it as giant hemp seed much easier to hook if cooked right. Also much better value.
That was ment for kevin bye the way lol.
very good but try with a waggler is a réel it will go much better than witch a large rod , thanks .
Nice, but do you always fish the same peg? Ha
No just went up there as there was a match on other sections when I filmed it
