    I find it surprising that she didn't mention the moment when Hagrid carries Harry out of the woods after he "died". It may not be super integral to the overall story, but I thought it was a really powerful moment, as he was the one who brought Harry into this magical world, and now he is the one to carry him after it ends (so it seems). I just thought it was really poetic, bittersweet, and touching.

    • @xMRxZEROx
      @xMRxZEROx 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I agree. It's incredibly poignant. Hagrid is literally the one to retrieve Harry and carry him out of the ruined Potter house after Voldemort murdered his parents. He carried him all the way to Little Whinging in his arms and handed him off to Dumbledore. That is Hagrid literally taking him away from the Magical world to protect him. Then when he turns 11, Hagrid comes to get Harry to bring him BACK to the Wizarding World, more figuratively in his arms this time. And then carries him out of the Forbidden Forest after Harry has supposedly sacrificed himself to save everyone. It's beautiful.

    One of my favorite little scenes in the book is when McGonagall gets spit on and Harry reveals himself from under the invisibility cloak because he’s so mad.

    As much as I love Snape as a character, I truly don't understand the sympathy he gets for liking Lily either, or even worse, people who think that LILY was wrong in choosing James over Snape. I love Snape, he's so interesting, but god damn he doesn't deserve squat. he's a bad person who did great things for the wrong, selfish reason. I don't think he's evil, but he's definitely on the darker side of the greyscale.
    I do love Snape as a character though, and I think it's so brave that he plotted against Voldemort, even when he was all alone after Dumbledore's death. It must have been incredibly lonely to be him, but I loved watching him plot with the Headmasters' portraits to help the trio. Awful dude, but JK Rowling has the capacity to make humane asshole anti-heroes.
    I love Draco in here XD He's such a worm.
    I think my favorite part of Deathly Hallows, that I only realized when rewatching the movies actually, was NARCISSA MALFOY. For the entirety of "Harry Potter is dead" bit, she KNEW. For this entire moment after Harry woke up, I was on edge thinking "Holy shit someone is going to check and they're gonna kill him again" but then Narcissa Malfoy comes along and protects Harry much to his surprise and basically flips Voldemort the finger and saves the Malfoy family in one fell swoop. When they were all marching towards Hogwarts, she kept her mouth shut the ENTIRE TIME and just watched Voldemort make a fool of himself, but she knew that HP was alive and was going to win. Can we just give credit to Narcissa's poker face? In the movie, she was SMIRKING the entire time as Voldemort made his speech, and it just made me laugh so hard XD
    Another awful person who did the right thing for a selfish reason, but hey, gotta love the anti-villains too.

    One of my favorite moments of the whole series is at the end, during the battle, when no one can be killed because Harry sacrificed himself for all the people who were fighting, protecting them like his mother did for him. And then the final duel where everyone's watching and Harry and Voldemort are walking in circle and talking because they are both too nervouse to cast the spell and kill the other. And then when Voldemort dies everybody wants to touch Harry, hug him and talk to him. It felt so unreal in the film when nobody thanked him, like he hadn't just defeated Voldemort. I think it was such a powerful scene in the book and was written so perfectly I couldn't put the book down.

    I think it would have been Better for Harry to just refer to Voldy as "Riddle" when talking about him. Why fluff that ego of using the name he gave himself?
    Also, THANK YOU! I am so glad there's another person that doesn't fully forgive Snape. From me, he has my understanding, his parents were abusive, he was bullied beyond belief. BUT! In turn he was a bully to a child for seven years because of his father, a father he never knew. Not to mention the random bullying he sent to Neville for no reason at all other than the pure joy of tormenting somebody.
    I don't remember who said it or if I read it somewhere, but a couple years ago there was a comment made about if Harry had been a girl, Snape might have been more like Petyr Balish from Game of Thrones, the way that character is towards Sansa.

  • @NickTvAddict

    Two remarks :
    1. You said that "Harry and his father were seekers". That is false, James was a chaser, we think James was a seeker because the first movie lied to us.
    2. The reason we know Harry is descending from the Peverells is not only because of Godric's Hollow, but because he has the Invisibility Cloak that has been said to be given from father to son, generation to generation.

      @@imperfect_dan7519 But the point is that the movies are wrong. They also had Minerva McGonagall on the plaque next to his name as being on the team with him too. Which is also wrong. She was a teacher at the time James went to school. In the books, which is the authority on HP information, James was a chaser.

The books. Not the movies. So your trying to claim James is a seeker becuase the movie screwed that information up is wrong in this context. In the context of the books, which is what's being discussed, James was a Chaser. Plain and simple.

    I absolutely detest Snape. No redeeming qualities, the only good thing he did was for selfish reasons (his obsession for Lily). He was an adult bullying kids and abusing his authority as a teacher to remove way too many points to Grinfindor for personal vendetta reasons. Ugggghhh. I don’t mind the chatacter, as you said he was a great vilain and what a twist at the end... but I just can’t get my head around the fact that some people think he’s a hero. Remember in book 3 when Harry showed Peter Pettigrew mercy? I think that formed a bond, a magical debt so to speak. So when Peter aka Wormtail wanted to kill Harry that debt prevented that from happening hence him being killed by his own hand (I don't know if that magical hand was more in tune to the magical debt and perhaps that's why it killed Wormy?)

    A few things I want to talk about:
    1. Albus was an amazing Wizard even when he was that young.
    2. One of the reasons why the two teenage boys would even think like they did and Harry did not even though they were the same age might be because it was a different time. The Wizarding world had not gone through the terrible things it has when Harry is the same age as Albus was.
    3. Every pureblood families are related. It is only natural that they would be related in a way or another. I am sure the Longbottoms are also related in one way or another.
    4. It wasn't suicide. Voldemort had a "kill switch" because he knew that Wormtail would either turn to the good side when he lost or something like that.
    Sorry for my spelling mistakes, and these are just my thoughts. They aren't necessary true.

    • @emmmabooks

      oh yes i'm aware dumbledore was always fabulously talented, he just got a little lost along the way with grindlewald!
      also very true about the different times!
      i think my issue is more to do with the fact that it's made significant in the novel. we've already been exposed to the fact that most purebloods are related, but i feel skeptical of the authenticity of the reveal as not only are they connected by blood to each other, but they are also connected by blood to the family who are the original owners of the deathly hallows. i would be fine if jk revealed in an interview "yeah voldemort and harry both come from (half) pureblood families that are related" but it's just so oversaturated with connections that i start to doubt how genuine these reveals were.
      i appreciate you sharing your thoughts with me!

    He silver hand strangled wormtail because it was designed by voldemort, who does not know mercy. It is described as a 'merciful impluse'. By doing this wormtail is punished for his betrayal to voldemort. Idk that was i always thought. I never thought that it was suicide. Idk why but i have always liked how clever that part is.

    I 100% agree with you that Snape's good acts do not excuse his shitty behaviour, but I definitely believe that Snape was acting in accordance with his beliefs and not because of a debt. I don't think Snape is a capital G good character, but if he has a redemption moment, it's not the "Always" moment (because, agreed, creepy), but when he instinctively will not stand for Phineas calling Hermione a Mudblood. Yes, it's probably a lesson he learned in time from Lily - but he learned that lesson.

    My only thing is I wish they extended the ending. I wanted to see what others were doing. I wanted to see Nevile leaves his grandmother house to head to Hogwarts and her saying that she is so proud of him. Or Luna coming home from a crazy adventure. George running the joke store on the busy week before school starts.

    I agree with you for Snape. What he's done during his life is awful and can't be replaced by the good he did... But he's my favorite character for that. He's not really a hero because he's kind of a bad guy but in the end the died for the wizard world and that's great. I mean he could have stop helping Harry after Dumbledore's dead... He could have betray every body from the beginning because Dumbledore didn't save Lily...
    And for his behavior I think he didn't have an easy life... He grown up with an abusive father and his mother was disowned for being with a muggle... All he has known is violence so why be different that what he knows
    But that's only my opinion :) he was for me the more complex and the more surprising character. At first he's a bad teacher scaring students, then he's revealed as a member of the order so you think he's a "good" guy. After he killed Dumbledore you hate him because he's a traitor and a double agent and in the end he was a triple agent for the good side... And that's why he's my favorite character :D

    My favorite parts are Snape's memories, Ron coming back, Hermione & Ron, Dumbledore everything about him, Lupin scene at Grimmauld Place, the Hallows, Dobby Harry making the choice to die I literally sobbed through out the whole book I even cried reading Lily's letter about baby Harry with his toy broomstick, the saddest part was when they had no plan and Ron left but it was essential of course it couldn't have been easy... I MEAN I LOVE EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS BOOK

    I agree with you about Snape 1000%. When i started reading the series and said to friends, who had already read it, that i didn't like Snape their response was always "wait until the last book. he'll go from a despicable character to you favourite one". Now that i've read Deathly Hallows i can't see why they told me that! Snape's obsession with Lily is definitely NOT love! And even if it were love, it is not a justification for the terrible way he behaves throughout the other 6 books.
    I totally acknowledge that he has done brave/good things, but he is not a good person! Making the right choice a few times does not eliminate all of the bad things you've done nor does it make you a good person.

    JK Rowling confirmed Snape never murdered or tortured as a Death Eater. It is unfortunate she has released information on him and his relationship to Lilly and Harry after the books, rather than in the books. If what he felt for Lilly was unhealthy & obsessive, do you really think his patronus would be a doe? JK made it clear in the books he switched sides due to love & guilt, not obsession.

    Also, I was reading a thing on Quora the other day that was explaining how every pure blood wizard is related by default. It was actually explaining how Draco Malfoy is a closer relative to Harry Potter than Ron Weasley is. But by that same logic of every pure blood wizard being related somehow, Voldemort would have been a relative to Neville Longbottom too because he was a pure blood.

    I never quite get how Harry forgives Snape AND comes to admire him enough to name a child after him. Snape is abusive and Harry is petty as hell. Boy had one bad interaction with Draco and tries to blame him for every major problem at Hogwarts.

    • @marinartg6374
      @marinartg6374 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Maybe Harry admires the fact that Snape stayed loyal... He could have betray Dumbledore after Lily's death or betray Harry after Dumbledore's death I mean why stay loyal to the good size if he was such a BAD guy... I think Harry understood that Snape wasn't all bad and that he just made bad choices and had a bad life. If I was Snape, I think I would have become a death eater too
      Why people likes Draco and hate Snape is what I don't understand because Draco would be like Snape if Dumbledore and Snape hadn't been there to help him...
      And JK Rowling said that if Snape had the choice again he wouldn't become a death eater
      Sorry if I'm not clear, I speak French ^^

      I know that this is months ago, but I really want to give my opinion to this.. so yes, Snape is an awful bully, and he does things that are not excusable whatsoever. But in the end, what matters, is that Snape sort of gives the greatest sacrifice of all. Just think about it.. He is forced to serve the man that killed the only love he ever knew. He then is forced to kill the only person who actually knows his true feelings and intentions. He then has to live on, being hated and loathed by everyone who is actually on his side. He literally sacrifices his whole life and being to ensure Harry's safety. It doesn't excuse his bullying behavior and things he says and does, but he is the absolute most tragic character, basically from the moment that he meets Lily. He lives a tragic, desperate and sad life. And yes, he never really does care about harry, I would never argue otherwise, and yet he risks everything to make sure that he lives, for Lily, his one and only love..and I feel that has to be appreciated, for he plays a most important role in voldemort's defeat, and he does so, thinking that no one will ever know where his loyalty really lay... not for harry, but for Lily, and therefore for love..and so he deserves all the praise that he gets

She is literally prepared for every situation since they leave to go find the Horcruxes (like, where would they all be without her ward spells + her magical purse that has EVERYTHING YOU COULD POSSIBLY EVER WANT), and I actually think she is the MVP of Harry Potter as a whole.

  • @ellysalvatore949

    What do you think about the theory that the Dudleys were so terrible to Harry because he is/was a Horcrux? Of course, they hate wizards and the Potters but there are some proofs of the Horcruxes having VERY negative effects on the behavior of a person when in "range" of a Horcrux

    • @emmmabooks
      @emmmabooks  7 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      ah i don't believe that one as much because they were still bad people when harry was at hogwarts (for christmas they would send him old socks and pence and such) and also, there's no evidence of him affecting ron and hermione with all the time they've spent together over 7 years!
      i personally think every horcrux works differently and they don't all make the people around it terrible people - the diary never affected Lucius because he was always a bad person with or without the diary in his possession, and we have no evidence of the ring affected Dumbledore in that way either. i've always though the negative effects were specific to the locket as we haven't seen them with any other horcruxes!

    Loved your review. I agree with you about Snape, and I just get mad every time I watch the movies or read the books. I do pity his character and find him to be well written, but I can't completely defend his character. I was thinking his protecting of Harry might have been done, because of all the bad stuff he did in the past. It's been a while since I have read it, so I don't remember. Does Dumbledore ask him to look after Harry? If so, maybe it was liking saying you want to earn forgiveness you gotta protect James and Lily's son. I have a friend who absolutely loves Snape and she writes FF, so wondering if her Fanfiction where she has Harry living with Snape is her way of "improving' it.

    I totally agree with you about Snape, except for one thing...I think Snape also helps Dumbledore also because he respects him and appreciates him giving him a chance :-) It doesn’t make him any less of an ass, but it is something :-)

    In terms of Pettigrew's death, I remember in one of the previous books (Prisoner of Azkaban, I believe), where Harry spares Pettigrew's life, and Dumbledore tells him that Pettigrew is now indebted to him, and that it's a very powerful thing, and he really emphasizes the importance of the fact. It really felt like something that would be touched upon in the following books. So I always wondered if that was why Pettigrew couldn't kill Harry, and ultimately was forced to turn on himself because of the magic that was at work.

    Harry might have been too harsh on Remus, but I think he is the sort of "no bullshit" person that will not sugarcoat situations, and will tell the truth, no matter how brutal it is. And that actually helps in the long run. I can totally respect Harry because of that. Harry calling out Remus for being scared to face the truth, and abandoning his family, was what lead Remus to go back to Tonks. So he actually helped the situation.

    I think it's actually said in the book that when Voldemort gave worm tail the hand, he kind of hexed it so that it would turn against Wormtail if he ever ended up feeling something like regret or sorrow or whatnot I think 🙈 I at least always thought of it as such and never ever thought about it actually being suicide until now!

  • @caitiece
    @caitiece 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    The scene with the death of Wormtail I would say is murder from Voldemort's part. I always thought it was about a full circle - James was killed by Voldemort, Sirius was killed by Voldemort's lover Bellatrix, Remus is killed by Voldemort's followers, and the ultimately Peter is killed by Voldemort's "own hand" per say. It is almost like Voldemort removed the four boys who were using magic outlet for good - so I interpret this scene as the end of Harry's innocence. The four boys who started the Potter legacy are removed from the story, so now it's only about Harry - and Harry's legacy.

    Dudley's new relationship with Harry did make me happy, but also really sad. Deathly Hallows is the point where Harry basically leaves behind the Muggle world forever and fully immerses himself in the magical world, and to think that Harry will pretty much never see Dudley again after beginning to repair that relationship is heartbreaking (although of course, it is Dudley's fault for bullying him for ~eighteen years)

  • @paulineowoo5375

    A bit late to the party but the reason that wormtails hand killed him is because when Voldemort gave it to him he said “may your loyalty never waver again, wormtail” and the loosening on Harry’s neck was probably the first wavering of loyalty and thus he was never able to disobey his master again

    So glad that you see Snape for what he really is and don't romanticise or idealise him. Another problem I have with Snape is that he only went to Dumbledore to protect Lily when he found out that the chosen one is lily's child... He couldn't care less if it was another family that would be murdered in cold blood by Voldemort the only reason he regrets telling Voldemort about the prophecy is because it targeted lily's child and therefore lily herself

    Another thing about the controversial topic Snape that I never see anywhere is that he mentally and psychologically abused his students so much that Neville, who, as an infant witnessed his parents being tortured to insanity, his biggest fear is, as we see in PoA, Snape. And when people say that Neville probably can‘t remember that because he was so young, his parents are still lost to him, he has never really known them and I find it astounding how his biggest fear isn‘t that some of his friends or his grandmother or anyone else he knows would be in the same state as his parents, but simply the physical presence of Snape... I really don‘t understand why nobody talks about that because I find it horrible and disgusting!
    P.S. Loved this video and all of the previous reviews !☺️

      Another thing he did so bad is he heard the prophecy in that bar from trelawney then told Voldemort, knowing Voldemort would kill the baby. He didn't care about the life of a lil baby. Only when he understood it was Lily's baby,he got jittery feet. And even then he was like hey him kill James n the baby n save Lily

    I absolutely respect your opinion about Snape but I have a different one. Snape is my favorite character and I know he did wrong things but do you think if James was born and raised in Snape's environment and the other way around he would be what he is and has become? The Prince's Tale is my favorite chapter of all time (and I don't think any other will surpass it) and it tells a lot about Snape and James's upbringing and also about the opinion of Dumbledore on Snape. Without Snape Harry would have died and would never been able to defeat Voldemort and the world would be screwed. Would you trade this for every bad thing Snape has done? Very ironically Snape couldn't manage this if he hadn't been "evil" but he could have not abused kids, but I think that was the result of his upbringing and his lack of love from parents and so on.
    Every time I read that chapter I just think Snape doesn't deserve all that hate and he's my favorite character. But he is also written in a way for people to discuss and to split opinions and I can respect all of them, as long as they also respect mine. 🙂

    • @Someone-hl5gr
      @Someone-hl5gr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Snape did irredeemable stuff though
      1-he chose his death eaters friends over Lily. It's basically like a white guy being friends with a back people hating group while his best friend is black, calling him the N word,and still expecting the best friend to understand n forgive.
      2-it was very clear Snape didn't leave any chance to bully n harass Marauder's either. Harry saw a memory where James harassed Snape,but there r time Snape did the same as told by Remus n Sirius. That's like if Harry's kid accidentally saw that one memory where Harry sectumsempra Draco n think his dad is a murderer. James was a jerk for sure, problem is the guy he bullied was a bully himself n also a pure blood supremacist. And while James changed n died fighting the good fight in his 20s,Snape was a full on death eater by then.
      3-he heard the prophecy n told it to voldy even though he knew voldy would kill the baby for sure. He didn't literally care about an innocent lil kid being murdered at all .
      4-he only panicked when he understood it was Lily's kid,even then he wanted to save Lily n let James n Harry be killed he doesn't care.
      5- he bullied kids under his care without any reason. Specially Harry, Hermione n Neville. He bullied so much that a kid like Neville whose mom dad got tortured to insanity had Snape as his boggart.
      6-he knew Sirius was innocent,yet lied. He intentionally wanted an innocent man who suffered years n years in Azkaban to get dementors kiss n he didn't care that petegrew will have no hunt for him by the law either. He'd rather let a murderer go scottfree if it means his school rival gets dementors kiss
      7-his one sided hung up on Lily is creepy imo. Specially when he does stuff like ripping off a letter of Lily n literally ripping Lily off from her photo with James n Harry. How cruel n insensitive.

    I'm pretty convinced that it wasn't a suicide, even though the first time i've read them i did not understand what was happening ( that's because i'd read them in a weird order) but then in GoF, when Voldemort gives Wormtail his new hand, he says "May your loyalty never waver again", so when Wormtail betrayed Voldy, the hand killed him.

    Regarding the Peverell connection between Harry and Voldemort, isn't said somewhere that every wizard families are connected in some way? Harry might have inherited the invisibility cloak and Voldemort the ring, but Neville might have Peverell blood too. (Especially considering that the tale is centuries old and the wizarding community isn't that big.)
    Your reviews were amazing, thank you :)

    Ah this review was great!! Hedwig's death really feels like the death of Harry's childhood, even though it was so sad. I mean reading the series, I only cried like three times no four, Hedwig, Dobby, Fred and the "all was well" just because WHAT DO YOU MEAN THE SERIES IS OVER.
    McGonagall goes from the overprotective strict teacher to the "that sounds like a bad idea....do it" teacher and when she gets to prepare Hogwarts for Battle, it's just the best!
    SNAPE is the worst ever, I understand young me being afraid of him. He did unforgivable things and many of the good things he did, he did out of debt and obligation. Not out of his his conviction, belief nor love. I think he is egocentric and does not deserve to be seen as a father figure.
    The ONLY real or the two only real father figures Harry had were HAGRID but also Arthur, the Weasleys overall don't get the recognition they deserve but especially not Molly and Arthur for taking Harry in like they did.

    If we're talking about Obscurials and them being somewhat mentioned in previous books, couldn't it be argued that Merope Gaunt falls into this category but she had the ability to control it? The Gaunts are known for being unstable and violent which follows the logic that an Obscurus is a strain of dark magic. If she's not a true Obscurus, this could be the first thought or idea JK had about this plot point for future books in the wizarding world.

    I personally don't think Snape and Lily has a romantic relationship but a very intense friendship that quickly derails because Snape was abused as a child and thus his version of showing "love" is quite possessive. I also don't think he joined the Death Eaters completely voluntarily, for me it's either this endless void of nothingness or this supremacist group where he feels kind of valued.

    All of the pureblood families are related to each other. We find this out somewhat early on. There aren't that many of these families. harrypotter.wikia.com/wiki/Sacred_Twenty-Eight A few pureblood families are excluded from the 28: Potter, Prince, & Crabbe. Arthur Weasley has Black blood, for instance (his mum was Cedrella Black). He's then related to Prof. Black, Bellatrix, Sirius, all the Blacks. That Harry & Voldy were related was 0 surprise. That Neville was also related to Voldy would not be 1% surprising. However, JKR never came out & said N & V are definitively related.

      Mary Pliler I don’t particularly remember which is my favorite book- haven’t read them in years BUT idk if this is just me, but I’m currently rewatching the films with my boyfriend and Harry Potter 3 used to be my favorite and now I find it so choppy.. and he faints like 5 times (an exaggeration) but he faints A LOT. LOL. I think it was always my favorite because of the scenes and Hermione’s first flick of badassery and Hagrid being a Professor and Buckbeak and UGH it’s like our first introduction into just how spectacular the wizarding world is and can be. Curious as to what you think about the film adaptation of that book. :) sorry for the super long reply thing here haha.
