I actually love Chamber of Secrets, because there is so much more mystery in it. Also, I think McGonagall was about to take points off, but Harry points out that their school term had not started yet, so that misdemeanor did not count. McGonagall was quite amused by Harry's request, and it's a small but really cute bonding moment between the two of them. Also, I think Hermione genuinely admired Lockhart, she was not manipulating him.
Well with the basilisk, they were illegal to breed so not many people would risk it. Also, they live to 1000 years so it takes a very long time for them to become as big as Salazar Slytherin's basilisk, hence they would never become powerful enough in one person's lifetime. Also, they can only be controlled with parseltongue and only certain parselmouths (Harry couldn't control it but Tom Riddle could) thus meaning that barely anyone could actually raise and control one to be like the one in the Chamber of Secrets. I think this one was especially rare. There probably are other Basilisks in the wild I assume, they are just uncontrollable and perhaps in very secluded areas. Idk Someone also said in another comment that a rooster's crow is it's weakness which also isn't rare so they are probably pretty easy to kill while young and small, never being allowed to grow as big as the chamber of secrets basilisk. This is just my theory ☺️
I haven't read any of the books in the Harry Potter series, but your reviews on them is making me want to!! Also quick question, have you ever done a video where you answer questions about yourself? Like just a general Q&A about yourself? It would be cool to hear!
About hermione being “manipulative” I also remember when Ron and Harry were hesitant to make the potion but hermione was lowkey manipulating them to convince them to make the potion with her and was saying things like, “well,,, if you don’t want to find out who the heir of slytherin is, I can go return this book right now.”
I liked this book because we get to see the Burrow for the first time. And i think Chamber of secrets has the best plot twist at the end, possibly out of all the books. Like Ginny??? She's behind the attacks? But it still makes sense because she is pure blood.
Chamber of Secrets is my favourite because it introduces so many concepts that will be critical later on. 1) Ron's wand (not being Ron's at all) breaking and being irreparable 2) The Whopping Willow 3) House elfs (their living condition, Dobby's desire for freedom) 4) The Burrow 5) (A part of) Voldemort's past 6) The first Horcruxe, the diary I don't believe Dumbledore knew about Voldemort's Horcruxes before seeing the diary. So without it, Harry would have been so screwed.
We don't know how Dobby knew about the diary. But we know that Voldemort gave Lucius the diary during the first Wizarding War without telling him that it contained a part of his soul. He just said that it was charmed to reopen the Chamber. Lucius put it in Ginny's possession during summer 1992 to harm Muggle-borns students but I think mostly to sabotage Arthur Weasley and to get rid of this Dark magic object (Ministry searches on Malfoy's manor). I also think that the whole Malfoy family knew about the diary ("you will be next, Mudbloods"). So maybe Dobby just heard a discussion between the Malfoys talking about it.
I can't believe I've never thought about the basilisk like that before. That poor snake must have been so lonely and hungry down in the chamber for 50 years! These are important questions!! I feel like every time I reread HP I pick up on some detail I missed or come up with a questions about the story!
Harry and Hermione are honestly both very clever and manipulative and definitely have lots of Slytherin in them. But it makes them so interesting. I love that scene where Lucius and Arthur get into a all-out-punched-out-dragged-out fight in the middle of a bookshop with all their kids watching XD XD how embarassing
"Like, yeah, you do have magical blood, but you're pretty fucking useless without a stick and you don't know how to use technology so really who's the better adapt species here?" *sips tea* - this might be my favorite thing anyone has ever said.
Harry learns how to duel, Expelliarmus spell is introduced, Aragog is introduced, they crash a car, Dobby is introduced, Lucius fights with Arthur. A lot of stuff happens before they enter the chamber.
The answer to why Lucius pulled that diary stunt that particular year isn't very clear, but I think it had to do with his rivalry with Arthur Weasley. I don't remember much but he was willing to do anything to discredit him, and that was Ginny's first year at Hogwarts, so that seemed like the perfect opportunity maybe...? Like Ginny was the youngest in the family and had he waited longer to do what he did, more people would probably have been suspicious with that sudden change in her personality, like 'she has never done anything like this before. What's going on with her?'
It's so adorable re-reading the younger Harry Potter books, seeing them make mistakes that totally flew over my head as a little kid reading them for the first time!
I feel like Harry and Ron didn't lose points for the car incident because it didn't happen at Hogwarts. However, it does seem like the incident was a way more downplayed than it should have been. Like since it was a matter of breaking the Statute of Secrecy and potentially exposing magic to Muggles, the Ministry should've gotten involved or something, although I guess the Ministry did always have a soft spot for Harry, which is a wholly different matter..
I remember Harry stating clearly to McGonagall something along the lines "professor, when we used the car the school year hadn't started yet so we can't lose any points".
duuuude your basilisk rant is my favorite thing ever! omfg you're the best. This is my fave review, I love HP reviews especially from people that have reread the series!
I love that shirt every time you wear it! I always catch myself over analyzing the HP books now that I have read them so many times, and then I have to take a step back and remind myself that they're like 12. I just can't help myself!
what a coincidence !! im also reading the chamber of secrets right now , im in the part where myrtle explain her death to harry and ron !! so im in the same track with u right now !! ( iknow you re rereading ) keep those hp reviews! they make me feel like im not late ( even if i am
I think Dobby knew about the diary because he's the servant of the Malfoy family, and it's common for servants to gossip. So I think he was kind of the eyes and ears but Lucius never thought he would tell anyone because of his loyalty to te Malfoys.
Hi Emma, while I watched the video a few ideas and clarifications came to my mind. 1. We don't know how old Dobby is. He might have been there when Voldemort gave Lucius the diary. It's totally possible that Voldi told him that It was a from his time at school with the chamber of secrets, so that Lucius will get how important that is. It also shows that Lucius didn't think that Voldi will truly come back and that he definitely didn't know about it being a Horcrux... Otherwise he wouldn't throw the book away to a place he doesn't know what will happen to it. 2. If I remember correctly, the camber was covered with bones of little animals, so the Basilisk wasn't starving :P 3. Also it may be a bit dangerous to breed something you can't look at as you will die (or be petrified if you look at it through something). Plus all the problems in the other comments :)
Probably not able to say "same" here exactly, to rereading Harry Potter this summer Emma. This is my first time reading the series in english, but I'd say it (kinda) is a reread since I've read them at least 3 times in danish? I don't know - the point was that the reviews came at an amazing time for me! Thanks for the great thoughts!
Just a few comments about the video: 1. Lucius, despite being on the Board of Governors, cares little about disrupting the school year, unlike Voldy. The Dark Lord kindly waits toward the end of the school year to try to kill Harry. 2. As for the convenience of Lucius carrying the diary, I think it is possible that he would be carrying it around for days, waiting for the perfect opportunity to frame Arthur or Ginny for killing Muggleborns. Yes, the Ministry does raids on people's homes, but they don't ever seem to do pat downs. 3. For how much he knew, I'm sure he would be aware of the Chamber opening in his father's time at Hogwarts. Since the Dark Lord is a Parselmouth, he could probably figure that it has something to do with opening the Chamber. Voldy bragged to everyone that he was immortal, but he would never share how he was immortal for fear of someone destroying that for him. I don't buy that Voldy would ever order Lucius to use the diary because he was furious at Lucius' betrayal of him (by claiming he was imperiused instead of an adamant Death Eater) in GoF.
I've never thought about how Dobby knows so much, that's crazy! As far as the timing of giving Ginny the diary, I do have an idea. At some point in the book it's mentioned that Arthur is trying to get some sort of Muggle friendly legislation through the Ministry, so Lucius is trying to discredit Arthur now before that legislation can go through.
I think the weirdest part of this book is the revelation that Hagrid is supposedly in his mid-60s??!! Cuz he was like 15 or 16 when the chamber was opened which was 50 years ago! It's just so weird to me because in my head he's in his 50s AT MOST, but really he's supposed to be 60-something?? It's weird!
Samantha's Books well since wizards live waaaaay longer than muggles I think from the moment they matured (around mid 20s I say since it's the most fertile period for humans idk maybe it's weird) the way they age gets slower? At least that's what I think
OMG yesterday I saw a car that looked EXACTLY like Ron's dad's car, I'm pretty sure it was a Ford Anglia like in the books, my siblings and I asked our mum to ask the owner if it could fly and the owner said "yeah, when the wind is behind me" xD
I had the same thought about the Basilisk feeding habits on my latest reread… what does it eat? It only petrified people and they show no other sign of injury. I understand it might be to stop it being too gruesome for kids reading it.
I love it when Lockhart loses his memory lol. It's so funny in the movie because of the confusion on his face. It's great lol. Plus Ron's response is amazing
Dobby can know more than Lucius about the diary, he is older and has been around dark wizzards all his life, which for an elf is a long time. He might have just overheard that this is a dark object that opens the chamber and made the connection. We've seen later in the books how much knowledge house elfs actually have about the wizzards and how much they know. And it makes sense Lucius to get rid off the diary because of the raids of the ministry but also he might wants to do it while Harry is in school as well. I am more sticking behind the fact that Lucius is just afraid, we've seen that he is afraid of Voldemort, he doesn't really wants him back, he is afraid that he is going to loose his position in the Ministry. The things found in his house might have been dark objects but he can always say they were heirlooms in the family, he is not proud of them, blah blah blah. He knows that whatever Voldemort has given him is much much more powerful and dark and that's why he wanted to get rid off it. And some other more suspicious things (at the beginning on Knockturn alley). We are definitely reading too much into it but I love it cause I loove Harry Potter. Thanks for doing these videos!
"I'm pretty sure having magic makes you dumb." lol I can't I just can't. Damn you rereading the series makes me need to not only reread the series, but all my childhood books
omg i forgot about harry roasting voldemort..hahah dead. okay but how about in order of the pheonix when harry legit always talks in all caps XD oh the angst.
Perhaps there are wild basilisks that run free from the wizards who tried to raise them. Pretty much the basilisks outlive anyone who raises them, and not to mention, pretty much anyone see them dies. So, a non-survival bias right there
lol "it never gets long enough to eat anyone..." Hermione does have a dark side that I love that should have been in Cursed Child... But facts! Harry is the only one that can be sassy, even to Voldemort.
Ah this was such a great review!! The inconsistency is so mind boggling but the thing with their wands (why does this sound so weird xD) anyway it reminds me of the shadowhunters and how they are "normal" humans without their runes and depend so much on them. This was/is one of my favorite movies mainly because of Ginny and I wanted to her so bad and I loved all redheads that I could see myself in so that might have contributed.... xD Also the car was the dumbest decision ever also you concern for the basilisk is making me so happy xD Dobby knows too much but I love him too much to question how and where he gets it from. (Yes I'm using present tense, he is present...okay)
honestly i really enjoyed chamber of secrets when i first read it. i still enjoyed it when i reread it a month ago. even though it's not my favorite harry potter book, i thought it was still very good. i also really like the movie. but anyway after watching this video, i think i'm going to watch chamber of secrets because you know ... hot tom riddle lol
So there is this scene when McGonagall catches Harry and Ron wandering alone in the hallways and when she asks them what they are doing they say they are going to visit Hermione and they see a tear escape her eye am I the only one who thought in that moment she was thinking about how similar The Golden's Trio friendship is similar to the Marauder's friendship(and yes I know that that was probably because of the school nearly closing but I'm a sucker for the Marauders😉😉)
The first time reading the series, the second book didn't seem to fit in until the Half Blood Prince, it was important, but so different and seemingly unrelated.
Agreed this isn't really my favorite book in the series either I have to agree with your view on the Basilisk though although I never thought about it before poor Basilisk questions so many questions about the Basilisk and how it matches to do what he does without getting caught he can't be in the pipes all the time because there aren't any pipes near a lot of the places where the bodies are found and here he shows up a few seconds later every time so how does he disappear so quickly I mean it's not like he can be turned invisible if he could he wouldn't have to use the pipes in the first place and yeah you're right this book doesn't have a lot in it it just kind of seems like a lot of darkness and Terror and without any actual events happening besides a few people turning to Stone or whatever and another thing is gilderoy Lockhart yeah I agree I like him better when his memory for the white-eyed so hard to believe he's a Ravenclaw I can't imagine a Ravenclaw being that pathetic I'm a Ravenclaw and I know a lot of the best wizards we know are ravenclaw's like mr. Ollivander and of course quick and McGonagall was almost a Ravenclaw and then on the Ravenclaw name we've also got killed or Lockhart and I just can't believe he's one of us and yeah Hermione is very good at manipulate manipulation and I just thought it was just her intelligence forgetting how to mess with people I love to see her try that I'm gonna go though ten bucks says it wouldn't work that is a figurative set not a literal one I'm not actually betting anything here
What I learned from this review, Harry Potter is a Killblocking, Dark Lord roasting, sassy kid who gives zero Efs. Forget being the boy who lived or the chosen one, this is what he's famous for!!!
I love chamber of secrets but it does have a plot hole that deathly hallows revealed. If Harry himself was a horcrux then should it have been destroyed within him when the basilisk bit him? This is probably more the fault of deathly hallows tbh. But when I read chamber of secrets it's so blatant to me now.
Ends well with a more satisfying conclusion. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (Novel) Book By J. K. Rowling (PDF-Summary-Review-Online Reading-Download): www.toevolution.com/file/view/581096/harry-potter-and-the-chamber-of-secrets-novel-book-by-j-k-rowling-pdf-summary-review-online-reading-download
The reason Lucius used the diary at that time was becuase there a new piece of legislation being drafted called the "Muggle Protection Act" I believe. And he is a pure blood asshole who didn't want it passed. It was being drafted in part by Arthur Weasley. Hence, why he did what he did giving it to Ginny. To make Arthur look bad.
I loved the book though it's probably not my favorite, but the movie definitely is! I know the ending is sappy but I tear up at it every time cause you gotta give it up for Hagrid!
I liked the humour in Chamber of Secrets best. You have to have a keen sense of the ridiculous to appreciate Dobby and Lockhart. Hogwarts house points system is so arbitrary. JKR doesn't give details such as basilisk hatching any consideration. She throws in tropes from elsewhere in literature undigested without giving them any thought. Hermione doesn't come across as a bad girl in this book, but yes, she is hyper-competitive. Dumbledore did not repay Harry's loyalty - he does not tell him everything he needs to know, he continues with unnecessary subterfuge. Slip the sock in the diary? That was only in the movie! How do you keep getting the books and movies confused? I never do. Lucius did not know that the diary was a Horcrux. Presumably Voldemort only told him that it was cleverly enchanted and would open the Chamber, but told him nothing about the Chamber or the monster (I assume Dumbledore told the truth about that). Ginny mark 1.0 deliberately concealed the attacks and her part in them and had no contrition over this whatsoever, but I still prefer her as a character to Ginny 2.0
I. Loved. This. Book. BISHHHH. *HARRY.* *Flippin.* *POTTER.* *SPOLIER* GINNY WAS BEHIND THE ATTACKS. Best. Flipping. Plot twist. Dobby is a mood when he said “you shall not harm Harry Potter!” Yesss bishhhh. And Harry is a Gryffindor PERIOD. That sword was awesome and still can’t believe Tom Riddle was Voldemort!! Lovedddd this. But I hate Lockhart, he was so aggravating 🙄🙄.
That Book and movie are so underrated big time. This book is my second favorite book and my third favorite movie You forgot to add this was book and movie. That had a horcrux being destroyed which we did not know until book 6. Until Dumbledore told Harry but that did happen that's why this is good. If Harry had know killed the. Basilisk Hogwarts would have been closed big time.
I commentrd on the review for the first book with some cool facts for you in regards ti Scotland... another silly one whicch is more if a theory than fact but wuite spooky... that those city chambers in Edinburgh that the idea comes from that has the same entrance like the bathroom sinks in film and with a ghost that shares the same middle name as Moaning Martyle... but although the book was published 1998 the film released in 2002 which was exactly FIFTY YEARS since 1952 when Scotland decided to build and began preperation for its city chambers begining construction in 1953... just like voldermort opening them 50 years later in the film which was released exactlly 49/50 years since the real ones opened also just like in the film
Wait "not much happens", what about poor Hagrid?! I've personally always found this one the scariest book! I think Lucius might have decided to get rid of the book because of the raids and since Voldemort himself had given it to him he might deem it to dangerous for the Ministery to discover. Also maybe the fact that he now knows that Voldemort is still sort of alive somewhere could have made him decide to try to open the chamber now.
It's definitely not my favorite, but GOF is my least favorite (like... why does the world cup take up half the book? I'm so bored before we even get to Hogwarts!) That said, all your questions are valid. I've wondered these myself! And yes. Guys. The flying car. It makes me want to bang my head on my desk.
i can't believe you didn't mention Ginny's poem! Favourite part of Chamber of Secrets. Seriously, legendary.
plus, JKR did confirm that Ginny wrote it.
I actually love Chamber of Secrets, because there is so much more mystery in it. Also, I think McGonagall was about to take points off, but Harry points out that their school term had not started yet, so that misdemeanor did not count. Same
"DAMN FOR A 12 Y/O HERMIONE REALLY KNOWS HOW TO WORK A MAN" - I am weak 😂😂😂😂
She straight up destroyed Cormac McLaggens life in the Half-blood Prince.
Well with the basilisk, they were illegal to breed so not many people would risk it. This is just my theory ☺️
Exactly. It's stupid to try and breed those things because they aren't controllable. Only someone really nuts or really evil would try creating those.
Well said. And I'm with you. Makes perfect sense.
And, wouldn't a basilisk kill its maker the first time it opens its eyes?
"He's cockblocking the basilisk" the best sentence said about Harry Potter ever
I haven't read any of the books in the Harry Potter series, but your reviews on them is making me want to!! Also quick question, have you ever done a video where you answer questions about yourself? Like just a general Q&A about yourself? It would be cool to hear!

6) The first Horcruxe, the diary
I don't believe Dumbledore knew about Voldemort's Horcruxes before seeing the diary. So without it, Harry would have been so screwed.
I think he did know about them already...
YOU CHANGED YOUR END SONG!!!! Wow what a day. Also, loved the review, confused gilderoy is my favorite gilderoy
We don't know how Dobby knew about the diary.

"you're pretty fucking useless without a stick" is an instagram bio material quote
I just read Half blood prince and I can't help but feel that chamber of secrets and half blood prince are really deeply connected
Your eyes are gorgeous I love your natural makeup look!

I'm reading it all for the first time. it's interesting how I didn't realise how good it was and I regret not reading it earlier
MY FAVOURITE HP BOOK😭 WHY? GINNY WEASLY!!!!!
It's so adorable re-reading the younger Harry Potter books, seeing them make mistakes that totally flew over my head as a little kid reading them for the first time!
I've been living for your HP review videos because you always notice the most hilarious things! :) Loving this series!

Personally I love the Chamber of Secrets because
DOBBY
i hated that book so much since it was so borrrirngggg...
i almost died.
I love that shirt every time you wear it! I always catch myself over analyzing the HP books now that I have read them so many times, and then I have to take a step back and remind myself that they're like 12. I just can't help myself!
'Killblocking'..... I will never look at the basilisk in the same way again
I love that you feel bad for the basilisk 😂

Your empathy for the basilisk is amazing😂 you're just too sweet!
Ah! Yay! I reviewed it recently too! I agree completely. Nothing happens. At all. Haha. Glad I'm not the only one!
Empathy for the Basilisk.. Best part of the video😂😂
Emma you're the only person I know that can rock that lipstick color, it looks gorgeous 😍

Great review really worth the watch!
My fave part from this book is everything that happens in the burrow. The weasley family home and harry staying there. ❤❤
omg i feel the same way about some of this! I am about to start reading the Goblet of Fire and I can't wait to see your reviews!
Emma looks so gorgeous in this video omg

"So really, who's the better adept species here?" Bahahahahahaha 😂😂😂
omg good points! I have a pressing question too but it's based in PoA so I'll ask it when you post that review :))))

The best part in Chamber of secrets Was Draco Malfoy being surprised finding Ron in a shop ( sorry i was sorted Slytherine )
I also thought about the lucius malfoy thng after reading the book
"Who's the better adept species here?" *literally sips tea
"It must be so hungry!" OMG, this review was so great.
I never thought about how hungry the poor basilisk would have been until now 😂 bless
I can express how much I love Harry Potter 😩😩💕💕
From what was mentioned, they could not deduct points because they school term did not start yet.
I have to know where you got your lipstick it's so pretty 😍💜
So happy! Been waiting for this!
I love this review and you made some excellent points! It makes me want to reread the series now 🙈
Please do more HP reviews. I love it.
"I'm pretty sure having magic makes you dumb." lol I can't I just can't. Damn you rereading the series makes me need to not only reread the series, but all my childhood books
It could be because the only thing it takes to kill them is a rooster's crow. So easy to make, easy to kill?
omg i forgot about harry roasting voldemort..hahah dead. okay but how about in order of the pheonix when harry legit always talks in all caps XD oh the angst.
Lucius was talking with the diary, just like Harry and Ginny did.
Dobby probably spied on him and got the info that way.
ASKDHHDHEJE YOU CHANGED THE SONG ON ME
Perhaps there are wild basilisks that run free from the wizards who tried to raise them.
I like your new outro music^^
And sympathizing with the basilisk?:D
I never picked up on the thing you said about Hermione:)
The first time reading the series, the second book didn't seem to fit in until the Half Blood Prince, it was important, but so different and seemingly unrelated.
When chamber of secrets and prisoner of azkaban are your favorite hp books
Chamber of Secrets is my least favorite but I always thought it was because I despise Lockhart. 🤷
Ollivander and of course quick and McGonagall was almost a Ravenclaw and then on the Ravenclaw name we've also got killed or Lockhart and I just can't believe he's one of us and yeah Hermione is very good at manipulate manipulation and I just thought it was just her intelligence forgetting how to mess with people I love to see her try that I'm gonna go though ten bucks says it wouldn't work that is a figurative set not a literal one I'm not actually betting anything here
What I learned from this review,
Harry Potter is a Killblocking, Dark Lord roasting, sassy kid who gives zero Efs. Forget being the boy who lived or the chosen one, this is what he's famous for!!!
2:30 it was not school year yet so they did not lose any points on a technical basis also LIONS FOR THE WIN
I love chamber of secrets but it does have a plot hole that deathly hallows revealed. If Harry himself was a horcrux then should it have been destroyed within him when the basilisk bit him? This is probably more the fault of deathly hallows tbh. But when I read chamber of secrets it's so blatant to me now.
new end music haha ❤️
Ends well with a more satisfying conclusion.

Who do you ship harry with Hermione, ginny, cho or luna
Books=Ginny
Movies=Hermione
I. Loved. This. Book. BISHHHH. *HARRY.* *Flippin.* *POTTER.* *SPOLIER*
GINNY WAS BEHIND THE ATTACKS. Best. Flipping.
Lol I just made a video basing my predictions for the rest of the series off the first book
TBH the basilisk is one of my favorite creatures and you opinions make me love it more 😂 and I had a good laugh *killblocks Basilisk*
glad you enjoyed ;D
That Book and movie are so underrated big time. This book is my second favorite book and my third favorite movie
You forgot to add this was book and movie.
Dinner at breakfast OMG, the spiders in the forest - let's talk about creepy!!!
Nice cover
Girl, that whole wand thing had me cracking up! I never really thought about that either! This whole video was great. You made me giggle.
Oh your outro music changed. I was going to jam to the previous one! 😂 My brain got messed up
It's definitely not my favorite, but GOF is my least favorite (like... why does the world cup take up half the book? I'm so bored before we even get to Hogwarts!)
That said, all your questions are valid. I've wondered these myself! And yes. Guys. The flying car. It makes me want to bang my head on my desk.
Love love love it. 💙💙💙💙💙💙💙 my love for Harry Potter is enormous.
