2:54 Overcoming the coaching. How many times did Romo have to do that with Garrett in charge? Garrett put Romo in so many losing situations that I wonder if Mrs. Garrett didn't make the trip to Mexico with Tony and Jessica.
Rewatch the play. The play clock almost expired before they got the play off and was actually 00 when the play started. That's why Garrett was trying to get the timeout.
Watching this video bums me out. Romo really was that guy who just could not catch a break. Seeing the Dak Prescott we see now, I just wish Romo had another chance to lead his team in the playoffs. The cowboys played their hot hand with Dak and now we are feeling it. Tony Romo will always be my favorite football player I have ever had the fortune of watching, and I wish things could have ended better for him than being benched. It does bring a smile to my face that he got to throw his last touchdown pass to a chorus of eagle boos in the linc however.
Stephen Jones will do his mother wrong if the money is right, that was our Superbowl season Romo,Dez,&Zeke would have murdered Green Bay in that divisional game at home still pissed about that!
Yea well Dak's career isnt over yet so dont be too quick to judge his performance. Damn its like everybody is expecting Dak to be Elite back to back when he is JUST starting his third season.
Just that one series and they almost had a QB controversy. Plus they had already started to sit starters by then. Romo would have been out there with the practice squad after that. I'll bet he still would have won though.
Well Romo didn’t win all those years before. It’s dumb to think he would have won a Super Bowl in 2016 since he only won two playoff games before. I was a Romo fan but he took too many chances with his throws. He can pass better than Dak but I prefer a QB with some caution and Romo like pass too much for me and he’d chance it with tight coverage for interceptions. Romo always had good receivers and a running back but has too many 8-8 seasons. His offensive line was bad some years but he had plenty of years with a good one too and Parcells left him a decent one as well. There’s no excuse, he just couldn’t get it done.
Didn't win it in '14 with Romo. Didn't win it in 07. Didn't win in the those 8-8 years with critical picks to doom each season. I can't stand our fanbase, always looking in the rearview. It's the past, no point in revisionist history. Dak may not be the answer, if not Garett gone, no wasted contract and it only cost a late pick.
jsdzx why can’t you stand the fan base? There are such things as honesty even amongst the fans. You can love the team and still be honest about what you actually see. I wore my Romo jersey proudly and display his picture in my sports room to this very day but he made me cringe with some of his decisions.
In ' 60 ,was 6 yrs old. Started interest in '72. Watched Staubach, then White, then Troy. They were the ones that went deep in playoffs. Then there's Tony. Of all of these QB's, Romo was the most creative, passionate and had the best humor ( color) of them all. Loved the way he could change things on field when it went bad. And wasn't even drafted. Dak will do well, but I really miss watching Romo's ad lib style. One of a kind for sure. He gave opposing defenses fits. So much fun, but that style cost him. He definitely was amazing.
Would have been a great story coming bck from injury going to the super bowl (don’t know if we beat Brady but still def woulda beat the packers and falcons dak wasn’t ready smh don’t mind me just letting the pain out 😭

Breen Machine he should have played in one of the final two possessions at home vs Detroit the previous week. Garrett wouldn’t put him in with the whole crowd chanting for him. His last chance ever at home and Garrett had him just stand there. Still rubs me the wrong way.
2 things here.. 1. This proves Romo was valuable backup during this season, without him Daks first year would be miserable! And some other team should have signed him!! 2. Did anyone see Brice Butler blocking a DB on McFaddens big run? The play was originally going to the other end of the field, but he decided to play football! Too bad we don’t have him around still! #fight
Romo carried this team, but all the haters can focus on are things that are not his fault. Like going 8-8 with the 3rd worst defense in history. With that bad of a defense, how did they go 8-8 and almost literally 1 play from the playoffs? Hint: Romo.......
Yes he did, he carried us to 2-6 in the playoffs, 0 divisional games won, and never even sniffing the SB. Who was the biggest choke artist Qb in the history of the Cowboys, and the NFL? Hint: Romo....
@@jayjhamb980 Is a SB winning QB a choke artist? Probably not... Is a 4th year QB who already has as many career Playoff wins as Romo did in 11 a choke artist? Not yet. What does either QB, or your question have to do with Romo being a choke artist?
@@joshuawood1436 im just saying no one ever gives shit to all these names when they had all the weapons, the whole team stacked, but Romo is going to be called a choke artist when he leads possibly the worst team into the playoffs. Yet Dak leads a team that shouldnt even lose more than 2 games to a 7-9 record, and Wilson throws a super bowl. However, Romos going to be the one who gets hate. (Wilson is in his 7th year not 4th btw)
Dak’s smile and push of Romo, like good job rook was so disgusting. Bro you got 3 with multiple drives with all starters. Romo effortlessly scored with mostly a second team. I’ll never forgive Jerry for this.
Bench an all time great QB for a mediocre rookie during a season with the most stacked offense in team history? It's brain dead decisions like that that have kept the Cowboys out of the Superbowl for 28 years.
They didn’t wanna disrupt the winning but the failed to realize we coulda looked even better with Romo. Dak was still fresh. Shit he still looks fresh in year 7 lol
@blazejay1713 agreed. It was also in the midst of all the Kaepernick drama. Bringing Romo back while Dak was winning games would have been a bad look. No one wants to talk about that, but I do believe it was relevant at the time.
We never should have picked him up because when we tried to sign him off season of 2015, when he resigned with the eagles he took a shot at Valley Ranch and the Cowboys. I live in Philly. Well when we signed him last year I found out his email and I sent him a letter saying he showed no class in making an ignorant comment about Valley Ranch. He replied to me apologizing and said he was only planning up to the eagles fans and he really did not mean it. I saved the email. I live in Philly. I also said to him after one week at training camp. Also I still did not see the need to sign him. What veteran skills could he show our corners? How to get beat? We already had Scandrick for that. Jason did not want him, I know that for a fact. Honestly, we could have kept Carr on a one year deal for that kind of money and he would have stayed for another year. Carr had a good 2016 after they began to play him on his best side and he never missed a game for us. He signing was another Stephen Jones special. We are still paying him this year. It also should be noted that Jason wanted Tony to start as soon as he was healthy, AGAIN Stephen overruled him and wanted Dak to remain as the starter so they could make sure what they had so they could get out of Tony's contract. If he stayed healthy we would have beaten the Packers, Tony would never miss those open receivers he did in the first half. Breaks my little heart. We FINALLY got the squad for Tony and then they do not let him play. Now we are stuck with someone who honestly has not done anything that RG3 has not done. Watch his first game last year, OMG his accuracy took a serious regression. We really could have won the Super Bowl in 2016 but NOPE. Stephen had to interfere. I LOVE LOVE Coach Garrett and he always treats me with class.
he has done great overall tho that's just one of his mistakes other then keeping Garrett so long. our drafts are great and we usually made smart free agent decisions
WHAT??? I am a HUGE Jason Garrett fan and clearly you have NO fucking idea what you talking about. Jason is a very good coach, great in some regard and THIS is when I stop talking to you.
T Will is way better than what the haters go on about and JG is no longer HC material. He has SB rings from the 90s and is stuck in that era. Power runners may work for short yardage but the long ball is the current NFL.
Dak had great first year because Romo was coaching him on sideline. I understand continuity and chemistry, but Romo would have had beaten Green Bay in the playoffs at home. Dak didn't have the savvy to win against a team who was concentrating on football; the Cowboys were just thinking about winning which they couldn't do. Now in his third year, Dak will make the coaches admit they should have given team back to Romo (especially with Zeke playing). Oh well.
Dak had the Cowboys in the lead with less than 30 seconds to play and Green Bay trapped back near their own 20. Just like the 2014 loss to the Packers, the 2016 loss was because at the end of the game the defense broke down and Rodgers was able to burn them. Defense wins championships, that's a fact. If you are in doubt, go back and check how many high flying offenses with mediocre to poor defenses have won rings (not many), then look at the number of mediocre to poor offenses with great defenses that have won rings (quite a few). For good measure you will note that the majority of SB winners featured good but not great offenses (efficient, good ball control, well balanced, but not exactly barnstormers) paired with good to great defenses. Part of this is the very nature of the offenses, being good at ball control helps your defense tremendously by both reducing how often they are on the field and spacing out opposing offensive drives more (which helps "cool off" an offense that has got into a good rhythm.
Danny Martinez Are you fucking stupid? No way in hell Romo would've put up 31 points in that game. Don't even try with that bullshit! Romo would've thrown multiple picks in that game
22steve5150 Cowboys weren't in the lead, but they had just staged an epic 15 point comeback in the 4th quarter. Everyone says Cowboys should've won, and I dunno about that, but it definitely should've gone to overtime. Like you said, defense was ass that game and totally fucked up that last play
How does that work, Austin? I believe they were right to start Dak in that game because it was his team and his season at that point but why do you think Romo would have bombed? He finished his career with a lower career INT rate than Aikman or Staubach. He threw 2 or more picks only 26 times in 156 game appearances, that's about 17% of games he played in (and even then he won 27% of those multi-pick games), and he started 6 playoff games and threw only 2 picks in those 6 games. So where does the certainty of a multiple pick stinker game come from?
Needed his wisdom and experience to go forward that’s why I know the coach was so bad an angry at romo so they scapegoated him and this man saved his job every year
Thanks Timmy. Roger Staubach and Tony are the two most electric QB's to ever play the game. The Boys always had a chance as long as they were on the field.
I mean they haven't won a ring. But they have just as many playoff wins as these cowboys had. They have went 12-5 2 years prior to now not to mention a 13-3 #1 seed season. Probably gonna win around the same amount of games this year. All that matters is a championship but they haven't sucked since daq got there.
Dez Bryan tended Dez Bryant's career by being unable to get any separation from the defender and tearing his achilles. Make no mistake; Dez Bryant is my all time favorite cowboy, but his career came to its natural conclusion.
Romo made that drive look like a piece of cake! Romo and Elliot would’ve destroyed and won a ring If Jerry let him play during the playoffs being healthy as an Ox!
That guy shouldve been the starting QB in the next game . The divisional playoff against Green Bay in Dallas. Dallas would've had a much better shot to win 3 straight and a Super Bowl ring.
2016 was a bitter-sweet season for the Cowboys. Sweet because it was a great season with excellent performances by it 's players especially rookies Dak Prescott and Eziekiel Elliott, but bitter because we didn't get to the Super Bowl after having a phenomenal divisional championship season and, of course, losing Tony Romo to retirement. Brings tears to my eyes.
no he doesnt...you can hear in his announcing when he calls out a "could be play". Hes too emotional, and not practical. hes a quarterback who calls things in the moment"which was his strength ON THE FIELD"....but as a coach you have to predict and look at the whole picture....he's coaching material from a "hey this was my experience" standpoint, but tactically for the long run...no way
Typical eagle fans. Booing room when it's his last game. Any other stadium. People would be showing respect. But not the eagle fans. These are the same people that cheered when Irvin was laying on the ground years ago ....
This was the one year that I’m convinced that we let the media dupe us out of a Super Bowl. Gotta play Dak, hot hand, Romo is Jerry’s son, …I even heard the race card…. If we handed the reigns back to Romo, the drought would’ve been over. No question!
Yup guess romo made these receivers all the sudden he ain't shit Beasley ain't shit bryant ain't shit bring in amri cooper force him the ball when dez thrives on that it'll be alright I wish the best for these players hopefully they end with a qb that can help them shine!
When was the last time Williams was on the field? Why does it look like Dak has no idea at times? It's like a clusterfuck when the ball is snapped. The ball is thrown seconds late. Cooper is fast and if hit in stride is potent. Dak throws after the play has come and gone. He ruined Dez and Williams. Watch what happens to Cooper, Gallup and Austin the next few years.
At this point Romo had so much experience in the league he could dissected just about any defense. Interceptions had came way down. Damn body just wouldn't hold up anymore
Im still not over how dallas did him dirty! Shot themselves in the foot doing what they did. Romo was clearly the better QB at that point and way more explosive. You give Romo his team bqck and you let Dak sit watch and learn from Romo for the next few seasons. When Romo decided to hang it up the right way instead of taken from him then Dak could have been really good. Miss watching Romo play

His back gave out from carrying the team for so damn long.
Not his body so much as his defense all those years. Tony would score inside the 2 minute warning and the defense would give up a score in under a minute. Can’t count the times....🤬
MISSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS...........ROMO SO MUCH HE WILL ALWAYS BE MY QUARTERBACK......HOPE ONE DAY HE WILL BE THE HEAD COACH FOR THE COWBOYS.
Romo not getting his job back was a travesty.
It was to save his health
ya, they did him dirty..when your stud qb is healthy for playoffs, u start him! that was their year..damn shame
even caused Dezs numbers to go down..dak wanna throw to wide open guys only, smh..thats never been dezs specialty(getting seperation)..romo just trusted him to win the fight
@@michaelzieschang7339 bro I never thought about it like that, that’s interesting
@@michaelzieschang7339 this. It was their year. And possibly the next and then Romo retires. Then start Dak.
Greatest quarterback of all time
nah, he was even more amazing than the concept of time...
Tony Romo pushing it a bit, but a hell of a lot better than Dak and a hof for sure
Absolutely
2:54 Overcoming the coaching. How many times did Romo have to do that with Garrett in charge? Garrett put Romo in so many losing situations that I wonder if Mrs. Garrett didn't make the trip to Mexico with Tony and Jessica.
Rewatch the play. The play clock almost expired before they got the play off and was actually 00 when the play started. That's why Garrett was trying to get the timeout.
+ teejay Trujillo
All those years when Romo was playing, He WAS the coach. He knew far more about what was going on than Garrett did.
teejay Trujillo fax tony romo is the sole reason y Jason Garret still has a job
Romo would be a better play caller than who is doing it now. Every win they had was due to Romo's presence and wisdom, not the coaching staff's.
+alwaysopen Romo was the ultimate overachiever, but no one wants to give him credit for it.
Romo with the current defense would be at best, an NFC champ. Idk what exactly about Dak doesn’t click, but whatever it is, Romo always had it.
They wouldn’t. I love Romo but let’s not act like they would’ve beaten the 49ers when the team fell apart both years
Romo and Dak are the same. You’re just having nostalgia let it go
Tony Romo always had beautiful throws.
Fucking perfect with lots of touch and heat.
when the offense was completely inept the entire game then Romo makes it look easy on his first attempt you know we have QB/Coaching issues
THUMBS UP IF ROMO SHOULD BE THE HEAD COACH.
OC without a doubt the way he can read a defense
No. They don't deserve Romo on their shitty staff anymore.
We win superbowl with Tomo that year.
Thank you for the memories Tony.
What the hell was Stephen Jones smokin when they picked up that bum nolan Carroll.
Chooch 484 we cut his ass
He was cut $4M later. We used to roast Philly's 2ndary twice a year. I wouldn't have touched anyone in their 2ndary back then.
Nolan Carroll and Leodis McKelvin. The nightmares...
They did this man so wrong just for a rookie to have a one year wonder
@Robert Hall yeah...and the hot hand has been average at best ever since.
Damn how right you were sir
Stephen Jones will do his mother wrong if the money is right, that was our Superbowl season Romo,Dez,&Zeke would have murdered Green Bay in that divisional game at home still pissed about that!
we should have won that 2014 game, what couldve been man fuck
Yea well Dak's career isnt over yet so dont be too quick to judge his performance. Damn its like everybody is expecting Dak to be Elite back to back when he is JUST starting his third season.
Romo should have played the whole rest of the game
*season
B Landel well it was week 17
Yeah but I would have loved to have him week 19 vs GB
Just that one series and they almost had a QB controversy. Plus they had already started to sit starters by then. Romo would have been out there with the practice squad after that. I'll bet he still would have won though.
Cowboys win super bowl if Romo was QB in 2016
That chance killed by political correctness and Steven Jone's jealousy. I'll never forgive them for that.
Heather Mckibbin without ? can't believe the dumb decision to not give him his job back just thinking back to it gets me angry!
I’m not crying, you’re crying
I miss watching Romo, Dez and D-Mac together
Darren McFadden hardly even played with Romo. Wtf. 😂😂

Greatest cowboy QB...underrated
Love the guy, one of my favourite Dallas players

Tony, it goes without saying, "THANK YOU" for carrying a heavy burden by your self for all those years. Wished you and Witten could've gotten your super bowl rings!! God bless you & your family Tony.☺☺👍👍
THATS a positive way to go out honestly. Nice long methodical TD drive ending with a final TD pass to end your career.
Breen Machine he should have played in one of the final two possessions at home vs Detroit the previous week. Garrett wouldn’t put him in with the whole crowd chanting for him. His last chance ever at home and Garrett had him just stand there. Still rubs me the wrong way.
Romo>dak
Nat Grader agreed
@@alanarockia9141 Dak is super young and had a amazing rookie season. Romo was legend though.
Jason May true, he can improve a lot
Lmao
Stop
1000 percent agreed
Yes he did, he carried us to 2-6 in the playoffs, 0 divisional games won, and never even sniffing the SB.
Who was the biggest choke artist Qb in the history of the Cowboys, and the NFL? Hint: Romo....
@@joshuawood1436 so is dak a choke artist? Is wilson a choke artist?
I miss seeing Romo out there. Thank you for all the memories! 😢😢😢
Miss you Romo !
Dak’s smile and push of Romo, like good job rook was so disgusting. Bro you got 3 with multiple drives with all starters. Romo effortlessly scored with mostly a second team. I’ll never forgive Jerry for this.
I’m a Giants fan and I think Romo was a hell of a good quarterback he just had bad luck in the playoffs
That release is a thing of beauty
Only a few can do it. He let go of it so fast at times it fooled you.
Bench an all time great QB for a mediocre rookie during a season with the most stacked offense in team history? It's brain dead decisions like that that have kept the Cowboys out of the Superbowl for 28 years.
That's on the ownership.
No one wants to talk about that, but I do believe it was relevant at the time.
that "mediocre rookie" led them to the 13-2 record you see at the top of the screen there ya casual
that "mediocre rookie" was the rookie of the year and got MVP votes that year.
He should've got the playoff start, it would've been a different story that year!
I wish he would’ve played the rest of the year. You can tell he learned his lesson and he was getting rid of the ball quick
My heart ....
And the corner T-Will embarrasses here, on a route that takes time to run.....THAT is who we target TWO TIMES as a free agent. Good job Stephen.
Felony Strutter, facts! This is the only corner our guys could get separation on. I was sick about his pickup.
Oh well.
Yea Packers had luck on their side that game. Cowboys should have won, but Pack had so many unbelievable plays
I remember watching Roger tearing up Washington too many times in the 70s. I use to drive my landlady nuts.
Prescott ended dez Bryant’s career bc he didn’t know how to use him and was scared to throw to him lol now look at we’re the cowboys are
I mean they haven't won a ring.
Dak Prescott has forever and for always been a check down guy, was never gonna work with Dez who’d let a qb throw him open.
Sept. 23 2018.... WE ARE MISSING YOU TONY!
Romo made that drive look like a piece of cake! Romo and Elliot would’ve destroyed and won a ring If Jerry let him play during the playoffs being healthy as an Ox!
Coach clap is enjoying Romo’s play. Well he’s clapping somewhere else now.
Ahh the old guard. I miss some of these guys. Definitely not Garrett though. Go Cowboys!
Romo is better than dak
Much better then Dak.

OC/HC
Romo needs to be OC
no he doesnt...you can hear in his announcing when he calls out a "could be play". Hes too emotional, and not practical. hes a quarterback who calls things in the moment"which was his strength ON THE FIELD"....but as a coach you have to predict and look at the whole picture....he's coaching material from a "hey this was my experience" standpoint, but tactically for the long run...no way
please come back
Still should of gave Romo his job back
Watching this in 2018 like "now that's a real franchise QB"
Typical eagle fans. Booing room when it's his last game. Any other stadium. People would be showing respect. But not the eagle fans. These are the same people that cheered when Irvin was laying on the ground years ago ....
Well, that's just the Eagles way of showing support. :-)
This was the one year that I’m convinced that we let the media dupe us out of a Super Bowl.
Gotta play Dak, hot hand, Romo is Jerry’s son, …I even heard the race card….
If we handed the reigns back to Romo, the drought would’ve been over.
No question!
And that was the last time Williams caught a TD pass.
@Jack Wilson I hear you. Just a lil info I thought I'd share lol
Wow, Williams was turning into a boss out there. Miss these guys
My favorite player of all times
Tony Romo is my quarterback. No disrespect to Dak but Romo should have come back as the starter in 2016.
