Handy tip for soldering wires, stagger your joins leaves a less bulky join, and also means that they can not short together if the heat shrink ever gets damaged (sadly, does happen).

@@newscotlandtv I know! I do pyrography and have the blisters to prove it lol 😆 . But dealing with electrical issues is a pet hate of mine. I borrowed a hedge trimmer from next door. But to my horror the cable was cut and held together with sellotape. I repaired it before using it with her consent. It's just so fiddley 😒😏
You do all this prep and then talk as if you're just telling us stuff like a friendly neighbour. It's really *really* impressive. Thanks very much for all you post.
The biggest money saver is using your other half's credit card for spacers.
We're on similar paths. I did my new build garage a month ago, replacing the solitary pendant with 3x 40W LED battens, I can see why you'd choose 6500K for filming but generally 4000K is a bit easier on the eyes.
The next biggest improvement to make is paint the brickwork, helps with the lighting and feel of the space.
Actually 6500 is daylight colour 4000k is nearer tungsten light bulbs. Either can be used for filming, you just need to set the camera. 6500k leds are brighter than 4000k ones, and give a more clinical feel to the eye, also gives a more accurate colour judge, but can seem harsh.
4000k is a warmer look to the eye, slightly less brightness (inherent to all led lights) but can be easier to work in. Checking the colour of paint, or a,stain for example, may need to be checked under the light they will be seen under when completed.
Either can be used for video, just set the camera white balance.
Also not bad to have k-adjustable LEDs, at least in an area where you can test for color.

This is a brilliant design for filming, the lights look perfectly normal (and make great overhead lights) when stowed away, and transform into "film lights" without having to store/drag/setup separate lights. Also a lot easier to work around since you won't be tripping over the wide base of lighting tripods. I don't do filming in my shop, but this is a terrific solution for those who do!
That is really cool! We couldn't put this sort of system into our current place because it's a rental apartment, but hopefully we'll be in a house later this year and can do something like this there. This is brilliant for recording sessions. Thank you so much. I'll be showing this one to hubby!

I’ve got mine on a PIR sensor so they come on when I walk in with my hands full. More useful than I thought. Probably not what you need for your workshop/studio though.

Hi Stuart. There may be wider applications for these lights. Still photography for one. I don't see any signs of flicker on your videos either so maybe also in other indoor video applications. The shadow free lighting is a great boon. The professionals will worry about the spectral colour balance but for more low cost amateur work they may be useful indeed. Thank you for publishing, it's a lot of extra work putting these great videos together.

I saw these lights used on another video and brought six with a three year warranty (luckily) within eighteen months all six had blown, but they were all replaced without issue. I am now preying that these six last a lot longer. Can you let us know if & when yours fail. Great Videos by the way.

hi, thanks for all the fantastic content! I'm following your lead and planning on installing these light into my garage workshop. HOWEVER, I'd love to know how you wired the panels into the lighting circuit? I'm removing the old tube lights so have a wire, but I'm a little confused how I attach that wire to multiple LED drivers...? Any and all help and advice would be much appreciated.

Hi, Could you consider turning down the volume on the intro music just a bit, it's out of step with the rest of your interesting production. There are standards for broadcast 'loudness' but there's no need to faff about with them, just think about toning it down a tad. Thanks.

This is a great idea. I am looking for lighting ideas for my garage that has no power. I was thinking 6 or 8 MR16 12V LED Spotlamps (5w each) ran from a 20V Power tool battery with a Voltage regulator. These units are low voltage as well with a transformer. What Voltage is it working on?

Hi Stuart great vid once again, quick question, do you have any plans on making a video about picture frames? My wife likes making art and finding frames that fit is quite a challenge and can be expensive, i was wondering if making your own frames is a easier route to go down. And finally do you have any tips on how to hang a bunch of pictures on a wall all in the correct place, it drives me mad getting them looking right and thought a precise guy like yourself would have some ideas! Thanks.
Thats funny you should say that... the answer is yes and yes. I have a blank wall that my wife wants filled with all of our framed prints and photos which I plan to make a video on very soon and I have someone who will soon be doing a painting for me which I will make a frame for. Getting pictures to hang in the right place I have easy solutions for - once you know how - coming soon!
In the meantime, look up Micheal Alm and Get Hands Dirty - both did good videos on making them at home.
Easier and neater to extend the driver output by wiring direct into the module instead of extending with a joint

Stuart, After some time of use what are these lights like. I was thinking of purchasing some for my garage but about 10% of the reviews say they fail early. What is your experience?

Love this. When I saw the lights previously, I assumed you'd had to cut out openings in the plasterboard for each one. You crafty little b*gger!!
Those are the worst solder connections. I’m not say they won’t work. I am saying as a professional I do a straight twist between the two wires and then solder it. If you have problems in the future check those solder joints. 😮

What I like about your workshopis the fact it's not a precious space. You don't keep up the illusion of a perfect you tube shop.
You are right - it's an average workspace, full of rubbish and there to be used - not to be polished!

Apparently these panels blow after a few months use. Cheap components and poor quality control in manufacture
On Amazon they have 2 years warranty. Check it out.
