Thanks Mike. I was happy to find the fault rather than the 'swap and hope' approach. First time I've seen a transistor leaking, while not being a straight short.
That would explain the corrosion. What about the transistor. The reading it gave it diode mode didn't give any clues (to me at least) that it was faulty. The faint glow on the LED was the only indication of a fault, so I'm wondering the best way to test in future.
@ I’ve have had a schottky diode go leaky when it was warm and not when it’s cold, it read ok and then powered the psu it worked for a split second and cut off, it doesn’t always need to be a dead short to be faulty, a transistor is normally about 0.512 approx on a meter obviously depends on the structure but anymore the that should indicate it’s faulty
Another Great fix and adventure Phil! Well done!
Thank you Edward. This is one of those fixes where I genuinely learnt something new, so it has been well worth it.
Brilliant fix!!!
@@GadgetUK164 thanks Chris.
Well done Phil, tenacious to the end 😁

I really enjoyed it too Philip, I did think it was odd the first time round, I have a feeling water tracks down the cables from the switch body 😊

@@PhilipBryden the mosfet should of only read one way, you had readings both ways on both pins
I thought if a transistor was faulty it would be a straight short. That's what confused me.
