If I may make a suggestion. I use an extra large disposable aluminum turkey roasting pan when I make my Chex mix. You can mix it in the pan and it’s so much easier to stir during baking. I just wash it and reuse it over and over. Chex mix is one of my favorite snacks. I LOVE the bugles in it. I’ll have to add the Kit cereal next time I make it.
I'm hooked on watching these videos and I make a ton of these recipes, when the videos start I say "hello my friends" and my husband laughs at me, he says who are you talking to? I reply well Tom & Melissa of course, congrats on getting your TH-cam plaque so well deserved, I was clapping and excited on the big day !!!!
Brings back memories ! My Mother started making Chex Mix for all of us for Christmas, she'd give each of us 2 or 3 coffee cans full. But after about 3 yrs, everybody started getting picky, wanting theirs special ( like this but not that, etc ). Well as you know making 5 totally different batches is time consuming, confusing, costly, etc. An no one " Helped " was the biggie. So this Gift of Love got out of hand, so she just Stopped. That really got them. Comes back to the old saying " Don't look a gift horse in the mouth ! ".
Watching you put the mix onto baking sheets I thought how can he do that without taste testing? The next second you picked up a piece and popped it.into your mouth! LOL I appreciate the way you say put a little or a lot make your own choices. I thought it was a wash tub, but it's versatile! Thanks again! ❤❤❤
I meant to say buggles not bubbles LOL 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 And add a little bit of coconut oil .l get it from the DT store for 1.25 cents.lts creaper than Walmart or at the grocery store 😊
This is our favorite snack mix… hope recipe is allowed. I send it to our son in Seattle every Christmas… I triple the recipe! He vacuum seals it in quart jars ! Making this to send to my Alex in Seattle this week! Honey Pecan and BBQ Snack Mix Serves: 7 cups Ingredients 1 cup pecan halves 1 tablespoon honey 1 cup wheat cereal (such as Chex) 1 cup mini wheat crackers (such as Triscuits) 1 cup unsalted pretzel wheels 1 cup corn chips (such as Fritos) 1 cup oyster crackers 1 cup cheese crackers 1 stick butter, melted 3 tablespoon BBQ seasoning 2 tablespoon sugar Instructions Preheat your oven to 325° F. Line a sheet tray with foil and spray with cooking spray. Toss pecan halves with the honey and place on the sheet tray. Combine the rest of the snack mix in a large bowl. Pour the melted butter over the snack mix and toss to coat well. Pour the snack mix onto the sheet tray. Sprinkle the BBQ seasoning and sugar over the sheet tray and toss to coat well. Bake for 20 minutes, tossing frequently. Remove from oven, let cool slightly and enjoy! Store in air tight containers. Makes 7 cups I use McCormick barbecue seasoning… I buy it up when Publix has it bogo!
Im rather new to your channel. You sir are a calm kind man. I can tell. I adore your love for Melissa. It shows. Even though Ive never seen Melissa, I hear her sweet voice. You two have got to be one of Kentuckys favorite couple. I subscribed so look forward to watching more recipes. You sir, hooked me with MY FAVORITE chocolate layer cake. 🤤 Bless you both. Stay warm and be blessed!
That’s really smart to take the snacks you like along with a cooler with your favorite drinks and water. It’s so expensive buying stuff out on the road. I’d be taking a few lunch meat sandwiches too. This sounds super yummy. Thanks Tom and Melissa.. 🙏🏻🙏🏻I like bugles too but I fill them with cream cheese frosting then dip them in white chocolate then into colored sugar. So good. Just dip the part that’s filled. My husband and I love my homemade beer cheese and my dried beef dip to snack on.
Oh yes, one must have snacks for a road trip. I always say something sweet (cookies), something sour (oranges?), and something salty like your Chex Mix. One time I had some left over chow mein noodles and so I tossed those in just to use up the package. Now I have to buy chow mein noodles to put in all the time. I tend to like them better than pretzels and the price is right. Have a safe and happy trip.
Your mix looks really good! I am definitely saving this recipe! I grew up with Lawry’s as that was Mom’s “secret ingredient.” About a year ago I found a lower sodium Lawry’s and there is NO difference in taste so that is what I now buy. Also, the best hot sauce for us wimps is *Trappey’s Red Devil.* It has a tiny kick but the flavor is great!! Kroger used to carry it but no more so I order it from Amazon. Seriously, it’s a delicious sauce!!
My mom always used her large blue roasting pan to bake the chex mix, so I have continued doing the same. By using the deep roasting pan, it is easy to stir every 15 min, and all the stirring is done in the same pan, easy clean up!! At every gathering my family always requests the mix! It is a favorite.
We also like the savory mix as well, when my mother was alive she would just use any kind of cereal leftovers in her mix... one time she used corn pops in her mix and my son's now have to have corn pops in every batch, just that one little bit of sweetness adds so much to the mix nicely... it is delicious!
Big weekend for football 🏈 two games Saturday & Sunday. Hubby and I microwave frozen Edamame. Tomorrow will definitely be popcorn 🍿 possibly a Slim Jim!!
We love the videos Tom & Melissa. I always use an unscented trash bag to coat our Chex Mix. It really helps to coats every piece and reduce the chances of crushing the mix.
Funny you mentioned how you pronounced Worchestershire Sauce - I was watching a real country cook awhile back and he pronounced it "washyersister" sauce 🤣🤣🤣 Safe travels !!!
But… I live in NH - but less than an hour drive from WORCESTER, MA. So, the correct pronunciation of this city is as follows: WOOS-terrr(rhymes with burr) … rhymes with “he is not brave; he is a real WUSS!!” Hence, the “sauce” pronunciation is as follows: WOOS-terrr-shear Sauce. And yes - it is “SHEAR” rather than “SHY-ER” . The emphasis is on the 1st syllable in BOLD ie “WOOS”Easy peasy once you practice a bit! One of my kids is a Prof Chef & can vouch; another one of my kids lives in Britain & can vouch. Lastly, I live 1 hr drive from BOTH Concord, NH and Concord, MA. Sharing this since you were teachers…. an old New England saying is still a truism: ”Atila the Hun never conquered Concord.” Newscasters & politicos usually mis-pronounce the CITY name. Both the city & the action are pronounced THE SAME. If only they’d been taught this adage! I really enjoy your videos & recipes - keep up the good work!
This recipe is just what i need because i need to clean out my pantry with all of my snacks!! Thanks guys. And I hope Melissa had fun time with her scrapbooking friends.
I love your channel. You and Melissa are precious and Tom you are just a hoot. The little funny things you say brings a smile 😊 to my face. I’m 78 and I still love to cook and bake. Have fun at the beach 🏝️ and be careful.
My husband and I have made two batches of Chex mix just since New Years and are planning another. We tend to buy the Chex from Costco because at Christmas time they have a mixed box of all three flavors, each in their own bag. Works great for this, and since we add in the wheat Chex too (I know a lot of people don’t) it works great for us. Along the same Costco theme, we also use some of their mixed nut blends. I am also not a peanut fan, and always substitute cashews for peanuts. And my husband doesn’t like the bagel chips, so we leave those out but we do put in pretzels and we did goldfish but have decided to try cheezits next time. I really like the idea of both the kix cereal and the bugles. I’m with Melissa, I love bugles! Have you ever tried caramel bugles? They’re a fabulous sweet salty snack! I used to be able to get them at the grocery store but unfortunately lately I’ve only been able to find them at convenience stores on road trips, so that’s also a favorite road trip snack.
This is a little different from the traditional Chex mix, and I think I'm going to love it. I will probably make it next Christmas too. We don't snack too much, but this is a great idea!
Looks good! We always put Kix in our Chex mix. I love the variety of crunchies you used. Found that awesome wash tub on Amazon and ordered one. Great idea for so many kitchen uses!
We really enjoy the Chex Mix. And we are so glad you found the wash tub on Amazon. It's certainly a nice tub for big projects like this one. Thanks so much for watching our channel.
This is almost exactly my recipe for "Bits and Bites" that I make at Christmas every year...I make 2 triple batches and give 3/4 of them away as gifts...they are a hit every year...I use Captain Crunch cereal in mine and I love the sweet and salty mix...I also use mixed nuts and cashews instead of peanuts...We can't get Bugles in Canada anymore so my friend picked some up when she was in the States for me...They wouldn't be the same without the Bugles.😊😊😊Yours looked so good😊What a funny story about the "worsh tub"...My Grandma always said "worsh".😅😅😅
We are all loving it! I like to throw in some chocolate sometimes with mine if I'm craving a little sweetness. M&Ms will usually do the trick. We really appreciate that you are watching our channel. Hope you're having a good evening.
I’ve always made what Americans call Chex Mix, although in Canada we call them “Nuts and Bolts.” I’ve used the same recipe X 25 years and have shared it with lots f my friends who still use it. I am intrigued by the addition of bagel chips in yours and try these next year. My batch fills the bottom of my roster pan, and I get almost all of them away. What I keep, I put in the freezer, which keeps them fresh for a very long time. Thanks for the ideas. Be safe and God Bless. ❤️
Freezing them is a very interesting idea. Thanks for letting us know about it. We have shared this with lots of our friends this time. It's been a big hit! Thanks for watching our channel. We hope you are having a great start to your weekend.
You definitely knew what I was going to ask. My grandmother had several of those Enamel pans. I have shelled a many of peas & butterbeans in one of those. Safe travelers to the Sunny State❤❤
A suggestion. My Mom would make the original recipe. She would pour all dry ingredients into a 5 gallon pickle bucket. She would put the lid on it, and roll it to mix it. So, you might go to a fast food place and ask if they have an empty one. Or you could go to a Lowe’s and buy one.
Around the holidays our family baked the original when it came out. I remembered mom and I had a little problem keeping the snacks in the pan. I'm thinking a roaster would be more ideal. Thanks again for another great video
Yum! Will try your version. When my sons were little, I always enjoyed mixing up the Chex Mix version on the back of the cereal box. I added in some things that my family liked too. That was our New Year's Eve tradition.
✍Hi Tom and Melissa...Today is a great day to be making Chex party mix cause we finally got our snow❄ here in Ohio that we should have got in November. It has snowed all day 4-5 inches ❄⛄ The weather was bad enough that schools were closed and even the beauty salon called to reschedule my appointment cause they were closing due to the dangerous driving conditions ❄ When I was in junior high in the 50s our Home Economics class was given recipes to make Chex Mix and Nestles Crunch bars at home and I still have those recipes we were given all those years ago. Just shows how delicious recipes stay around for a persons eating enjoyment... Yum!! Tom when you first pulled out that white porcelain pan my first thought was the same as the old gentleman from the hardware store... either for washing or for a baby's bathtub... ha ha ha Enjoyed the video and recipe from my young years. Safe Travels for you and your friends and enjoy your snack mix. Good Night😴 God Bless LuvYa! Bye from snowy and freezing Ohio❄❄⛄
Like your Morehead T. We share a lifetime of teaching. I’m up in Alberta, Canada and enjoying your videos. And a former student of mine plays baseball at Morehead.
I just LOVE watching yal cook or bake. Be VERY careful driving down here. The foods are always something I want to make and are easy enough that a really bad cook like me can make them. You feel like my family. I hope you really enjoy your trip to Florida. I’ve lived here, in Naples, for 63 years. It’s legal name is Beautiful Naples on the Gulf, Florida. Haven’t seen snow in 63 years. Oh, I don’t get to travel much any more but my favorite snack to take is fruit.
It's been delightful to read your comments. We love escaping Kentucky winters with a trip to Florida. Naples is absolutely a beautiful area. We visited there many years ago. We really enjoyed our time spent in your area.
Years ago when I flew to Florida, to go on a Bahamas Christian cruise. I made cinnamon roasted pecans, and put them in a ziplock bag. The minute I dragged those things out of my carry-on bag and started sharing them with all of my group that was going to the Bahamas. Everyone absolutely loved those cinnamon roasted pecans and bragged on how wonderful they were and they made such a great snack and they were a hit! Better than what the airlines was offering.
Looks delicious. You made it alot of fun mixing all the ingredients. Thank you and have fun with your friends on your road trip. Drive safely. Take care. Love 💕 from Debbie and Dexter-Dog my sweet tiny rescued Chihuahua 🐶 companion living a quiet crafty life in southern California.🐶💕🐥🐾🐣🧑🦽💌✝️🐰
I just found your channel by accident and had to watch. Oh and my family is from Southern Ohio-Northern Kentucky area and both my mamaws had tubs like that but never to wash stuff in, rather used just like you are. One of my fondest memories, from my childhood, was when my maternal grandmother would pull the tub up from the basement, chop cabbages and make sauerkraut. Oh those where the good old days. To this day I've never found another kraut that tastes as good as hers. It's probably missing the extra dose of love she put in it knowing I would be eating the majority of it.
Oh wow, another memory that my auntie used to make. Wrote the recipe down and will make some and remember game nights at aunties with cousins. Y'all are so awesome! Thank you!
I made some chex mix the other day. I call mine a poor man's party mix or we used to call it nuts and bolts many years ago. I use Crispix, the butter square pretzels, pecans, w sauce and garlic salt. It is a great idea, buy what you like. I love to eat it with a cup of Russian Tea or a small glass of coke. I have never thought about some of the things you put in it and that would be so good. When things were not so expensive, I would buy all the items but things got so expensive, I started just buying Crispix and I really like it in it. Thank you for sharing a different recipe for party mix.
You are very welcome. We do appreciate that you are watching our channel. We agree that food prices have gotten so high recently. We enjoy making food and sharing it with others, but it's more difficult when prices are so high.
The Dollar Tree has all kinds of chips, crackers, nuts for a $1.25 each so if you're on a budget and looking to cut costs there's the place to go... Dollar Tree!
I just made Chex mix last weekend. I wish I had added Kix. It will be an add in next time. I usually use two cans of mixed nuts (no peanuts). I personally like peanuts but it just seems more elevated with the mixed nuts. I will also try adding paprika next time. Thanks again for great ideas. Have a safe trip!
Definitely saved... for our road trip in June/July! I miss Florida so much... living in Indiana has been a big change... but we go back every summer to my lil paradise, Mexico Beach, where I was raised!🏖🌞🌊🐚🩴 Bless you both & your friends..🙏🏻🚙🌎⛱️ Have a wonderful time & a safe trip!☺️♥️🫶🏼 btw, in my family, it's "Rooster sauce"!😉 and our fav snacks are salted nut mix, Gardetto's garlic chips, Cheeze It's, any chips, dried fruits, peanut butter brownies!😋😋😋
We visited Mexico Beach just months after the hurricane hit a few years. It was absolutely heartbreaking. Such a beautiful area. I hope your childhood home was spared. Thank you so much for watching our channel and we hope you and your family enjoy the chex mix on your trip this summer!
@comesitatmytable9044 the beach home we stay in every year was spared but the place we were married along with everything else... like the Driftwood Inn, El Governor, IGA & homes that had been there since I was a child all gone...😢 2018, Hurricane Michael was awful however the beautiful people of Mexico Beach all came together & much of it has been restored. By next spring the pier & Toucan's will be rebuilt. My hubby & I plan on retiring there if I can ever get him to slow down. Much love Melissa & Tom!🥰
U know what ? U deserve every subscriber u get. It’s obvious u wanna make sure u fully explain everything u do & the reasons for yur actions. That’s why I love yur channel soooo much !!
The mix looks delicious! I’ll definitely try some of the difference ingredients you used, ones that I have never used! I mix and bake mine in an aluminum roaster pan! Have a wonderful and safe road trip! TFS
Melissa, if you love Bugles snacks, you should go by Bucee's on your way to Florida and try the "White Fudge Beaver Twists".....bugle snacks covered in white fudge. They are delicious!! But be forewarned.......they are very addictive!!! 😋
I just love to hear that you and your wife doesn't just sit around your house and you "actually travel everywhere". How wonderful.? Love your videos and I have made a couple of your recipes and they were good. Keep your videos coming and I always try to look at the videos that you post. So thank you!. Safe travels ok.?
The best thing about this video is that wash tub!! My local hardware store sells them, but it is a little costly for me right now, I will get one because I just love it and I also love the Chex mix snack, second to the wash tub!! Love all your shows. Have fun in Florida.
Good Morning to you both my Aunt would make this and fudge every Christmas for presents we would cook in in turkey roasting pans she would also add dried fruit there would be so much we would mix before the spices in clean trash bag, because we made enough for like 30 people to get quart size bags but boy was it delicious
Even though I don’t eat animals or animal byproducts…..I can still make yur recipes by switching a few ingredients. I LOVE yur recipes & explanations ….u really r the B E S T !!!
Wow!! Completely forgot about Kix cereal. Everything sounds divine. Will try this soon but in a reduced amount. There's just the two of here now. Have a great trip and show us pics 😊
It's easy to cut this recipe in half or even a fourth. We just knew we would have lots of people eating from it, so we made a lot! Thank you so much for watching our channel.
Hello Melissa and Tom, thank you for another great recipe and suggestion to make it my own. I will make this and enjoy eating it too. Be safe on your road trip and keep warm. Just remember that the South is suffering from cold, my daughter in Jackson MS hates it. I am from Cincinnati but live in Hamilton after i spent 30 years in MS. I do miss the South especially when we have cold and snow 🥶🥶🥶 so i am hibernating ☺️😁 May God bless you and be with y'all and your friends. Enjoy yourselves and come back home safely. Y'all are a real joy and blessing to all of us who watch you and enjoying your recipes. 🤗🥰😇🙏🙏🙏
Thank you so much. We will continue to post videos from Florida. It's way too expensive to eat out all the time. We love escaping the cold temperatures in Kentucky.
This really brought back memories.... thank you. My family used to always make this for their "card playing" get togethers... along with their home made Kahlua back in the seventies...... You gave me some ideas of some other stuff to throw in there... Looks soooooo good....
You are so welcome! We are all enjoying it! Not only do we enjoy it for traveling but we love it like your family does for game nights and UK game watching!
We make Chex mix every Christmas ! We use our turkey roaster and put it all in there. Your recipe looks good. We will definitely try this 😊 Thank you ❤
Hello from Washington State. 😊 I Love your big white metal bowl. My grand kiddos are always wanting to snack. This is a great thing to have on hand. Thank you
If I may make a suggestion.
Great, great tip... Perfect!
Thanks! Good suggestion.

THANK YOU LADYSMITH 3578 - FOR THE STUFFED BUGEL IDEA ~ SOUNDS GREAT!
@@Yrutnec1 You’re very welcome. It’s actually quite good because of the salty and sweet.

Yummy to my tummy 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤
I never thought that I would want anything other than the "regular" chex mix until now. This looks delicious and I will make it for sure!
Big weekend for football 🏈 two games Saturday & Sunday. Hubby and I microwave frozen Edamame. Tomorrow will definitely be popcorn 🍿 possibly a Slim Jim!!
I am excited to try this! My dad made chex mix before Christmas, his seasonings were alot like yours. Oh, memories

Oh and Tom your chili recipe is the best, I make it all the time!

Yep, that's a worsh tub. Lol 😂 I am on a Craisin cashew mix right now. Yum
That looks so so good enjoy your time with your friends and this way you don’t have to stop to snack 🎉🙏
Thanks Tom and Melissa for the snack recipe. Looks great, stay safe and have fun. Fred.
Thank you, Fred. We love hearing from you! Hope you are having a great night.
My husband and I watch your channel daily! What a great teacher you must have been.
I’m going to my hardware to get a wash tub. Great idea tky
my favorite snack is gardettos... the mix you made reminds me of gardettos

Freezing them is a very interesting idea. Thanks for letting us know about it. We have shared this with lots of our friends this time. It's been a big hit! Thanks for watching our channel. We hope you are having a great start to your weekend.
In the 70s, when I first tried this snack, it was known as nuts and bolts!
That Looks Yummy 😋
Around the holidays our family baked the original when it came out. I remembered mom and I had a little problem keeping the snacks in the pan. I'm thinking a roaster would be more ideal. Thanks again for another great video
Yum! Will try your version. When my sons were little, I always enjoyed mixing up the Chex Mix version on the back of the cereal box. I added in some things that my family liked too. That was our New Year's Eve tradition.
My Grandmother always made this for Christmas and she called it Nuts and Bolts lol.
Very nice recipe.
I always double the seasonings and wet ingredients. My favorite treat! Yum! Prayers going up for a safe trip for you all! Thanks for sharing!!!
Looks delicious 😋
This chex mix looks so delicious. I can't wait to make it. Thank you Tom and Melissa. I hope you enjoyed your road trip. 🙂
This will make a great road trip snack. Hope you have a safe trip and a fun time.
Hello Tom and Melissa! Safe travels and God Bless you both 🙏🥰🙏
This is making me so hungry for chex mix! Thanks for all you do.
You are so welcome. We hope you get to make some soon! Thanks so much for watching our channel.
Hey Tom, I call that sauce “ warsh your sister sauce” 🤣😂
Im going to make this for my son that travels for work. He’s going to love it!
Funny story! You made us laugh out loud. We hope your son loves it like we do. Have a great weekend.
My favorite snack is caramel bugels. Yummy 😋
Those are sooo good!!! I have trouble finding them these days though. 😢
I never knew until tonight that caramel bugels even existed! Those sound absolutely fantastic. I simply must start looking for them!
@@comesitatmytable9044 I think you will like them. Hope you do and enjoy. I will be tempted to eat a whole bag.
😅😅😅
It's been delightful to read your comments. We love escaping Kentucky winters with a trip to Florida. Naples is absolutely a beautiful area. We visited there many years ago. We really enjoyed our time spent in your area.
Love it. I used to make for my 2 sons birthday parties.❤
It's great for parties. We enjoy it for lots of things besides traveling. Thanks so much for watching our channel. It's great having you with us.
Ya’ll drive careful, weather is still a little rough. Have fun and may His hands of protection over you all.
Be safe. I love white cheese sauce and tortilla chips, but I like this that you just made. Love ya'll
Thank you!
You are so sweet. We appreciate your kind comments and are tickled that this recipe brought back some memories of game nights at your aunt's house.
Hope you have a wonderful trip and drive safe. This sounds so good. I think it should be my trip snack from now on.
What a fantastic recipe !
Check Mix snack has been a favorite of mine since I was a toddler ❤❤❤ !!
Looks So Good.I love Me Some Chex Mix..😊😊
I hope you both have a very safe and uneventful trip. Be careful in the North Carolina mountains. It's slippery and frigid. God Bless you both.
Safe travels to you both and to your friends 🧡 Such a nice idea to give each car going a bag of this wonderful, savory snack😊 Enjoy 😉
First time I have seen a product from pepper palace used on a youtube channel. I love that place, so many spice blends and sauces
Whoever ever has too much Chex mix? We call it Texas Trash and I Love it! Thanks for the recipe too.
Melissa, I LOVE Bugles too! Ever since I was a kid, those Bugles had a hold on me. 😂😂
I love those things! They are addicting! I can never stop with a small handful!
TFS
You are so welcome. We appreciate that you are watching our channel. Thanks for your kind comment. Hope you are having a nice evening.
Melissa, if you love Bugles snacks, you should go by Bucee's on your way to Florida and try the "White Fudge Beaver Twists".....bugle snacks covered in white fudge. They are delicious!! But be forewarned.......they are very addictive!!! 😋
My favorite snack food in the evening is olives and shaved ham.😊 safe travels from WV
So glad you answered the question about the pan! I hope I can find one!
Have a fun trip! Maybe Lord guide your way and keep you safe under his wings! My fav is Lays potato chips! Or hard candy.
I've made a similar mix in the crock pot. Very easy and convenient to do!
I make lots of Chex mix during the holidays, I add it to gifts.
It's a great gift. We basically gifted it to people we are traveling with, too. We love to make food to share with our friends.
My aunt graduated at Morehead!!❤ she went on to work at CNN !!!
Another MSU Eagle! Yea!
Good to see you're using real butter!
YUMMMmy!!!
I might also add some Cumin!!! Maybe a touch of Cinnamon too!!! 🥰🎶❤️🇨🇦
Thanks so much for watching. We love your ideas! Hope you are having a great weekend.
Have a great time in FL!🍊It’s cold and snowy in Southwest Virginia. We like to take brownies and popcorn when we travel.

Sweet and salty is a winning combination. That sounds so good. Thanks so much for watching our channel. We really do appreciate it.
