    Great video. Illumination was perfect. Sanding seat surface I'm sure most people never thought of.

    Great ideas. I would take the seat out so I can try and polish the surface so it doesn't tear out the gasket all to pieces after little use. Originally those seats are smooth as a baby's bottom. That round file on the drill leaves too rough a ring.

    My valve seat was the hexagon pattern. The trouble I had was the removal tool hit the back on the manifold before I could push the tapered end of the tool far enough to lock up tight against the valve seat. Once I got the threads started and halfway in...I sort of wedged the square end of the tool into the hexagon valve seat tight enough to get it screwed tight into the manifold...probably was a dangerous move since I could have distorted the seat, but it worked. In hindsight, I should have cut off a little from the hexagon end, so it wouldnt hit against the back of the manifold.

      You're probably right but those old manifolds are thick and strong, but you're right don't take a chance .

    Should have left the tap open and flushed out the debris you caused with the drill bit first - that saves embedding the grit and swarf into the new tap washer.

      OhBoy! that's a tough one, If it's the part you take out then purchase a new one. If it's the tub faucet valve there is not much you can do except to replace it. If I can think of anything I'll let you know.

      Mr moneytaker, I've seen 3 different videos using a "properly" sized screw driver, that is "tapped" into the seat(don't get wild with it), then turned to the left. If you don't get a good bite, tap it further in. Remember these are brass, in other words soft. Good luck.

      @@henryjames8654 This is great to know thank you for your input. I'll try that on the next tub valve

      Mine felt rounded out but I think the hexagon tool was hitting the back of the manifold before it could wedge in tight to the valve seat. I had to tap the square end of the removal tool into the hexagon valve seat. Was probably a dangerous move but I got lucky, and got it out. Should have just cut the tip of the hexagon tool off so I could push it in further..

      @@BandiGetOffTheRoof I ended up using a reverse threaded nipple extractor, worked like a charm

    Thank you. This was a big help. The design of these valves is really Mickey Mouse. Wonder why they don't use ball valves?

    • @dustyguy
      @dustyguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      They didn't have ball valves back then

    What !!! You did not change the old washer. I believe your seat is to rough it will damage your new washer if you would have put a new one in...

      just showing how to save the original seat when you cannot find a new one. Had to do this on several antique faucets. I'll send you a video on changing the seats

    Terrible, just purely terrible, wobbly and uneven cutting with unshaped seat face. Use the correct tool or wait until tomorrow to buy a new seat, SMH. I bet that crap leaked so much afterwards.

    • @dustyguy

      That's why washers are rubber and pliable. They conform to the surface. It's when there's a gouge they won't seal the seat. But you're a perfect plumber with all the answers so you knew that... right. He was giving tips to everyday people. It wasn't a bad tip when you're in a pinch... but you knew that too... right😂🤣

    • @6977warrior1
      @6977warrior1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Scott-eo7lj LOL, you must be a pretty crappy plumber too who knows nothing about how water is sealed in a faucet. The seat face is crooked so it will leak prematurely, but you knew that, right? And had to stick your fat mouth in someone else's comment to show what a real jackass you can be, right? Get lost loser.
