So glad you mentioned to turn off mains water stopcock at front of residence. This is an awesome video covering beginner washer replacement, intermediate refacing seats, and advanced replacement of tap seats for DIYers. Thank you so much.
HELP 😢 PLEASE! I followed your video on how to do a simple washer change and now when I turn the bath taps on, water is coming through the wall.... What have I done wrong?
Bloody brilliant Bill. My dad (retired plumbing industry) was very disappointed when I told him I fixed it myself with this videos help. He had even gone to his shed to get his old tool box.
A big thank you as I'm on the brink of having to change my bathroom sink washers myself 🤦♀ girl power to the rescue. I have to rummage through my fathers tool box to find the needed tools do most of the task. Watched this job done many times as a child so wish my luck 🤞
Go girl power !! I've seen my dad replace washers many times, and fix cars. I've replaced washers myself, but never done a reseat. This video was awesome. Extra knowledge.
Thanks so much @billshowto I'm an elderly lady and my husband no longer can do handyman work. I'm excited to learn from you. I'm so very sad my husband is no longer able but it does mean I now get a chance to do things. Blessings and Thanks 😊❤😊
Another great, helpful video. Well done Bill. Your explanations are perfect, not over complicated and give confidence to the home handyman that they could do just about anything around the home.
Missed a few tips here. Turn off the water first. Open the tap valve as it makes it easier to remove spindle. When you tap a thread as in for the new seat always go 1/2 turn forward and 1/4 turn back. This will clear the debris and make it easier to tap the thread. You also need a slow revving drill such as a cordless drill to reseat as too high a speed would cut too much out.
Thanks Bill. You are a legend. I find your videos are very practical and useful. All explained in a very thorough and straight to the point DIY friendly way.
Magic. Thanks for this video. The new tap seat is what i was hoping for. Never new you could do that. You have saved me a plumber bill. Thank you so much.
Finally the solution. I had a micro crack in the seat and I have tried reseating this about 4 times and feared I was getting close to flogging it out for good. This has fixed the problem. You are a legend Bill.
Thanks for sharing brother. As a tiler and carpenter, I've always shared knowledge when and where ever possible. Plumbers rarely ever share knowledge, and I never knew that third way to resolve a broken seat. Brilliant
FANTASTIC, AND EXTREMELY WELL PRESENTED. SIMPLY EXPLAINED DIFFICULT ACTIONS. I LEARNT A LOT. GREAT JOB. I ACTUALLY HAVE A MASSIVE LEAKING TAP, AND NEED TO RESEAT THE COLD WATER. THE PLUMBER MADE IT WORSE.
Thanks for your video. I've never experienced a plumber actually flushing the taps after reseating, so now I know why I have to keep getting them back to fix dripping taps! Ceramic disc taps are the way to go though.
Great video Bill, I love the knock-up you made, excellent stuff. I was amazed 20 years ago when I came to Australia, that these old fashioned taps were still a thing. Ceramic washer taps were unheard off 😂
Thanks Bill. Great video that I will share with my daughter. Can you make a video comparing the various materials used in hot & cold tap washers. There are so many choices, cheap & expensive, soft & hard, plastic & brass stems. Some wear out quickly.
Good job. That kit's been around for years. Haven't had a tap where I've had to go that far, but it's a good s option if required. There's one leak which is rare but you can add it to your list and that is the spindle o-ring.
cheers Bill, very timely. I have a set of taps that are leaking again that I did the tap seats in years ago, I'm hoping another go with the reseating tool will do the job, but that hydroseal looks like a game changer if it doesnt!
Thanks Bill, my mums shower has a continual leak and the plumber said there was a damaged tap seat- scratched exactly as in your example, now I know how to fix thanks to you. You’re a gentleman and a scholar!
Great video I've done steps 1 and 2 for years to fix my taps but always thought how can I fix a tap fitting which has been refinished multiple times, never knew about the rethreader kit!! Will keep that in mind, if I ever get that far up s*^t Creek!!
Two things I changed on my shower tap set up, I chipped the edges of the tile at the bottom and "Injected" some silicon all the way through to the base of the body so that when the tap was removed, the water would run forward and out over the tile outer surface instead of soaking into the plaster board, I have fitted those stainless seats on all my taps and use the washers that soft self seal by using the pressure of the water to effect the stop of flow. This demonstration used the best type of seat resurfacer, I don't have that type and had to be careful not to leave radial chatter marks on the seat.
helps at times to open the tap a turn before you try to loosen the spindle, then you are just working on the thread minus any pressure/friction from the washer
Yes mate have done all this and it must be said that one has to be very careful when reseating a tap seat as there are many cheap reseating tools are really great at wrecking the seat or taking too much of same goes for renewing the seat just be careful to get quality fitments and tools.
Top video mate. I’ve not seen these kits before. I thought the only option was just to reseat the old one. I recon teflon tape might be the go instead of lock tight though, as who knows, the replaced seat might need replacing again in 20 or so years. Thanks for sharing!
Can you do a waltec 12 version please cause I am having a problem getting to my seats I have removed the cartridge and everything else but still can access the seat
if i wanted to take the taps off like you showed, and then NOT use the taps or spout anymore (ie. leave them removed from the wall), can i just take the spindles out and screw some sort of end cap in place of the spindles? will that work, or is it more complicated than that to disable a tap and spout?
Great video. I almost bought one of these kits yesterday but decided to try reseating again first. How do you know if the tap seat gas already got a replacement seat in there and does that matter?
How would you fix low pressure in the house, I check the mains tap, cant see a pressure reducing valve but it coudl be underground. Have you heard anything about low pressure after home handymen remove rainwater tanks as it looks liek this bodge job owner has pulled out his tank and the pressure is shit thanks to that bodge job from my guess.
hi mate, your video is really helpful, thanks. Can you add a link of socket spanner you used in the vedio? I couldn't find the right one on the market😅
I started using the seat replacement kit recently and sometimes I don’t align the tool properly and it starts chewing away at the seat instead of biting to create that thread, any tips?
Great video, I have ordered all the bits shown in your video and I trust you will get an Amazon affiliate link. I did not know about the reseat replacement damn good idea. Cheers
Hi!! If it was damaged (the seat) by a plumber how do you then fix it? I simply told my plumber my taps make squeaky noises after a while they're not doing it yet but after about a year they will start getting squeaky when you turn them on and he marked around with it and now I've got a worse issue. The tap was not dripping at all but now it is continuously dripping. I have found out I need to get one plumber in they need to pull all the tiles off the wall and then I need a builder to come in after that a lot of hassle for me as a tenant over a dripping tap. Is there a simple fix or a way around this? I do have handyman in the family and I would love each of you fixed easily and quickly without all of this drama that is ahead of me
thanks @billshowto its very helpful. quick question: do we need to remove old valve seat before installing the new one? or straightaway go and make the new threads as shown in this video? thanks in advance
I have a leaky shower head changed shower head to new and changed vale to new still leaky .. please help what's next the shower head is dipping thanks bill
Make sure the main water supply is turned off first👍👍👍👍
So glad you mentioned to turn off mains water stopcock at front of residence. This is an awesome video covering beginner washer replacement, intermediate refacing seats, and advanced replacement of tap seats for DIYers. Thank you so much.
you’re very welcome 👍
A great suggestion.
Also put the plug in the sink or bath tub so nothing goes down the drain! Many people dont do that and they lose things.
That aint right. Gotta let Dad be a Dad. SpecificLLy your Dad who wants to teach his son. Great Comment hey. Im a sook

Tap spanner! Thank you for using the name so I don’t have to walk around Bunnings showing teens a screenshot of some metal hexagon

Oh no, way to much…what’s the plumber’s number 😅
Thanks Bill. You are a legend. I find your videos are very practical and useful. All explained in a very thorough and straight to the point DIY friendly way.
You’re welcome, glad I can help👍
Magic. Thanks for this video. The new tap seat is what i was hoping for. Never new you could do that. You have saved me a plumber bill. Thank you so much.
You’re welcome 👍
Your a legend
I Had no idea that you could simply tap in a new valve face
I got quoted over $3000 plus GST to change my bathroom taps in Sydney..........I'm handy enough to do it myself! Loved this video.
That’s really useful video
Keep putting these simple and informative videos out Bill… fantastic work mate!!
👍👍👍
Finally the solution. I had a micro crack in the seat and I have tried reseating this about 4 times and feared I was getting close to flogging it out for good. This has fixed the problem. You are a legend Bill.
Thank you for the video, as I now have the confidence and knowledge to correctly replace damaged tap seat. 👍👍👍
Love it. If you added a part about installing quarter or half turn taps, that could save even more money and effort for homeowners.
That may have to be a separate video. I’ll add it to my list 👍
Yes please
Thanks for sharing brother. As a tiler and carpenter, I've always shared knowledge when and where ever possible. Plumbers rarely ever share knowledge, and I never knew that third way to resolve a broken seat. Brilliant
I finally fixed our leaking shower after so many tries. Thank you Bill!
Glad you pinned the need to turn the mains off first! Hopefully no one tried changing their washers without turning the mains off.
Another winner Bill! I'd managed the first bit myself in the past, but have never had to reseat or reseal. Great knowledge to have, thank you!
You’re welcome 👍👍👍
The best video I ever seen in my life as second generation migrant .clearly&simply spoken bravo Vasili
👍👍👍
Thank you for making every tutorial easy to follow. I now no longer have leaky taps, also I now have also installed a new shower head!!
FANTASTIC, AND EXTREMELY WELL PRESENTED. SIMPLY EXPLAINED DIFFICULT ACTIONS.
I LEARNT A LOT.
GREAT JOB.

As always, easy-to-follow instructions and valuable information. Thanks for sharing.

Your videos are aways so helpful, straight to the point, and show me exactly what I was looking for. thank you!
Thanks Bill, another informative video.
Coming from a first time home builder, your videos are always my go to when it comes to home improvement 🤙🏻
Unfortunately the way new houses are being built including mine, maintenance and repairs come much quicker than they should. Hope all goes well👍👍👍
Great building advice for the many Bill, always awesome.

I have done a few videos on this but on shut off valve’s. Exactly the same process but I’ll add it to the list in case people can’t find them👍
cheers Bill, very timely. I have a set of taps that are leaking again that I did the tap seats in years ago, I'm hoping another go with the reseating tool will do the job, but that hydroseal looks like a game changer if it doesnt!

superb video, id defo recommend turning off mains and flushin a toilet or running a tap to remove any system pressure!!
Thanks Bill, my mums shower has a continual leak and the plumber said there was a damaged tap seat- scratched exactly as in your example, now I know how to fix thanks to you. You’re a gentleman and a scholar!
Well done Bill..You only need to view the size of Plumber's advertisements to conclude many charge like wounded Bulls..
Cheers mate! Appreciate your input and insight on such a simple repair that almost anyone can do. 👍🏼
Great video I've done steps 1 and 2 for years to fix my taps but always thought how can I fix a tap fitting which has been refinished multiple times, never knew about the rethreader kit!! Will keep that in mind, if I ever get that far up s*^t Creek!!

You are fantastic, Bill. Thanks for sharing all these useful videos.
Thanks Bill, I knew you would had a video on this. Great work like Always. Now onto the toilet running 😁
Great plumbing video, just gotta question, how did u remove the old seat?
Wow. Awesome video. I didn’t realise about being able to redo the seats. Great info. Thanks. 🙏.
Thanks a million, it's so easy and quick to do as long as you have that Tap Spanner. Annoying drip now gone after replacement washers.
You’re life saver ! Love your channel

Just a shout-out... Man, these are seriously impressive how-to videos.
Awesome stuff! Thank you so much for sharing this knowledge. Saved me some money and headaches 🤙
You’re welcome 👍
Great Mate. That is exactly what i needed. Tried to shave but that did work so I am going to do exactly what you have shown us.
Yes mate have done all this and it must be said that one has to be very careful when reseating a tap seat as there are many cheap reseating tools are really great at wrecking the seat or taking too much of same goes for renewing the seat just be careful to get quality fitments and tools.

Great video Bill. I never knew about those re-seating kits. 🙂
Thankyou, I'm going broke buying new washers that don't make any difference, will try the drill reseater tool as my hand driven one does SFA.
Quality content and video Bill.
👍
Can you do a waltec 12 version please cause I am having a problem getting to my seats I have removed the cartridge and everything else but still can access the seat
Always great new innovations out there and blokes like you put them out for us to see👍
Thanks mate. Your advice has been really helpful. Off to Bunnings
No problem 👍
Thank you Brother so much, for your very valuable demonstration and explanation.
Great video Bill. Very helpful

Does anybody know what the best washer on the market are and
I love this channel I have learnt so much I can do myself around the house. Thanks Bill ! :)
Great video. I almost bought one of these kits yesterday but decided to try reseating again first. How do you know if the tap seat gas already got a replacement seat in there and does that matter?
I have a question can I use the tap from a shower to taps for a washing machine ?
Hey bill can you still shave the seat on the hydro seal or does it have to be the original seat?
Thank u so much man i fixed my shower but the tub is a priblem i i put in the new seat but spout is still leaking could it be the spout???
Very helpful information 👍
You’re welcome 👍
Should always go back and forwards when tapping any material even a little lubricant helps the thread cutter
a thousand blessings on your household
You could shine a light unto the seat at the beginning and different stages to really make it easy to see into it
Bill, you fkn Legend, mate!
Wish the landlord would let me do it myself
Are all shower valves the same size/thread or do you have to know what size your old ones are?
I've been putting up with the ensuite cold dripping for months... Ill have a rack this week, Legend cheers 🍻
👍👍👍
I ment crack at it 🤣
How would you fix low pressure in the house, I check the mains tap, cant see a pressure reducing valve but it coudl be underground. Fantastic vid Bill 👏 thanks heaps for sharing
How big the spanar?
hi mate, your video is really helpful, thanks. Can you add a link of socket spanner you used in the vedio? I couldn't find the right one on the market😅
Is it a different repair if it's a single tap (mixer)?
Awesome presentation!!
I started using the seat replacement kit recently and sometimes I don’t align the tool properly and it starts chewing away at the seat instead of biting to create that thread, any tips?
Did you take off the old tap seat before u put the new?
What if you have a recessed washer?
Great video thank you. Does the new seat simply sit over the old one after the new thread has been created?
With that last tool....how many times do i spin it or do i spin until it wont anymore? Thanks
after replacing the valve when I close the tap I have to tighten the tap so hard. does this means it's a worn out tap seat
Cheers Bill. You are a life saver 👍
Great video Bill❤
Hi, great video. What would you suggest would be the problem if you had a ceramic tap which was leaking? Same procedure?
Great video, I have ordered all the bits shown in your video and I trust you will get an Amazon affiliate link. I did not know about the reseat replacement damn good idea. Cheers

How do you flush out thew shavings?
Legend. Super easy to follow. 👍
I have a leaky shower head changed shower head to new and changed vale to new still leaky .. please help what's next the shower head is dipping thanks bill
Thanks Bill. Great video.
How do you take off the tap head or just tighten up a loose one? Great channel thank you.
Hi, if you’re referring to the spout they are generally removed by rotating the whole spout anti clockwise 👍
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge ❤
You’re welcome 👍
My seat is worn. There is about 1.5 mm of metal above pipe. The erosion is about 1mm above good metal. I'm wondering if still possible.
