    I bought a black dial version. It was one of the the greatest moments of my life as I saved 10 years to buy that watch. I flew from Amsterdam to London and took a coffee after 3 hours went back. Now I can do a little research and hopefully find out what what she is worth.

      Great that will fetch you some cash. *I used to be a collector, but I liquidated my collection to venture into real estate. In January, I acquired homes in Malibu for $55million, and the returns on investment far exceed what I earned as a collector.

      How did you grow your portfolio to $55m, I'm impressed, I have a lump sum in the bank, the rates are not impressive so I'm moving it, what's your cash flow like?

    Hi there. The 16700 is the latest elegant, simple, slim GMT which has kept the spirit of the 6542.

    @Austin so your choice would be the 16710 between the two? I would have to agree. Great content and would love to see more in the near future!

    I'm loving this deep dive on the GMT. Of course, I see it as yet more convincing from Austin that I should go for the 16710 instead of the 16760. But I think I have my heart set on traveling to Japan and getting a peach of a 16760. :)

    I have been fortunate to own both. My preference is for the 16700. It is more comfortable on the wrist and benefits from the quick set date facility. I am usually only tracking one other timezone so the rotatable bezel is fine for that.

    • @lv293
      @lv293 หลายเดือนก่อน

      So this is a simple choice for you between the two? I have been having this debate for some time now. Any additional insight would be great! Side note: I do have a smaller wrist

    Great vid and good topic. I prefer the 16710 for the easier and more functional usability that comes with the master 2 over the master. Other than that it’s more the aesthetic you have given the slight changes in size and fit on the wrist I guess. I couldn’t see myself wearing this watch while cycling.

    Such comprehensive knowledge as always. I think he should buy and enjoy the model he wants but I'd definitely wear a G-Shock for the outdoor activities as Austin suggested. A preceramic Rolex is tough if well maintained but why risk the damage?

    A late 90’s 16700 is the end of the line of the original GMT. That is the one to buy. It has Quick set date and a simple GMT function. Do you really need to track 3 time zones on the fly? In theory people want it but in practice they don’t use it. Most people don’t know how to use the 3 Tim zone function.

  • @mlogicli

    I bike with modern GMT II, Daytona, and Speedmasters for two hours every day. So modern pieces are totally fine. Just don't drop them into hard surfaces. I don't have direct experience with neo-vintage movements though but I think they'd also be fine since my understanding is that people 50 years ago were more active than us today, and Rolex were specifically targeting adventurous people in those eras.

    Gotta say my 16713 root beer makes me grin every time I look at it. The dial is a chameleon, when inside the printing looks black and outside it looks tan. However, two tone at work can be a bit shouty. Get the 16570 Explorer 2, love mine.

    The 16700 is thinner than the 16710 but the 16710 is still a pretty thin watch. I'm sensitive to watches being too thick and I owned a 16710 and thought of it as thin for its type.

    You can’t set the 1/2 hour time zones on the 16710, you‘ll be either half hour early, or half hour late. But you can on the 16700. That makes the 16700 more versatile to me.

    • @LukeZak
      @LukeZak 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @vincet6730 what exactly do you mean? 16710 is superior over 16700 as in 16700 you can't adjust the GMT hand independently at all.

    • @vincet6730
      @vincet6730 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      OK, try to set the 2nd time zone to ie. Mumbai local time. You can’t do that on the 16710. But on the 16700, because the bezel has 120 clicks. The bezel on the 16710 has 24 clicks only. If it had 48 clicks, it would make the 16710 the perfect watch.

    • @LukeZak
      @LukeZak 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@vincet6730 The bezel on 16710 has 120 clicks so you can set it to whatever timezone you want. Plus it's great for timing things. The 16710 is a perfect watch indeed. I think you mixed that up with the current, ceramic GMT Master II which has 24 clicks.

      The models you mention start at around 10 grand. You didn't mention it, but one of the best value SS Rolex professional models is the Ex.2 Ref. 16570. You're about halfway to one of those.

    The lesson here is, if you are a collector, buy a Rolex, if you want accurate Time keeping, get a Casio or a Timex Quartz. If you want to see the watch in the dark, Timex Indiglo. If you want a watch that will last a nuclear winter, get a G Shock. I won't even get into the affordability aspect. How ironic, the irony wasn't lost on me.

    I keep rewatching this vid. I've wanted a 16710 so bad...but I found a 16700 that is really amazing; can't decide if I can live with that fixed GMT hand. Or if I'd like a thinner case? Will it wear different/feel different on the wrist? And for the same cost?. I thought a cal. 3175 would be at least $1,000 - $1,500 less all else being equal. Is $11.5 w/ B&P a bit high? U-serial, "Swiss" only dial. Bob's and WatchCharts value it at $9-$10,000

    • @watchsymposium
      @watchsymposium  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'd say $11.5 is a tad high, but if it's never been polished and in good shape, I might consider it. I can understand the feeling of being torn between a 16710 and a 16700; I always kind of wanted a 16700, but not sure if the thinness is worth the mechanical and aesthetic limitations (no Coke option).
