    So, what do you think? Should Harshad pull the trigger on this 16700, or walk? Let him know!
    Also, when it comes to the description of the watch (see 3:23), the unpolished claim only seems to be made in regard to the case and the case-back. So, that could explain why the clasp looks so clean - it very well might have been polished! (It's all about the fine print, and reading between the lines!)

      The lugs and crown protectors seems more rounded to me which could only means they well polished. For a collector’s piece, I would prefer a full set or at least with the original cert. I agree there are still good pieces to be found out there.

      I wouldnt buy it. This video made me grab my own 16710 t serial out to see what dial and insert it has. You got me excited as it does have the serif fonts on the dial and the 5 minute markers and it has a fat font serif insert. Case back stickers is also very good condition. Seller original owner said it was unpolished. I believe him it has plenty of wear

    It’s great to see you back! I’ve missed your videos, one of my favorite TH-cam watch channels! I have bought a few watches during my last couple of visits to Japan, particularly at Nakano Broadway. I often thought about your videos whenever I was perusing the many watch shop display cases there. Thank you for another fun and educational video. 👏🏼 Looking forward to the next one!

    Personally I would look for a tritium dial Master II with box and papers with history. Yes, you would pay more for such a watch and it might take a while to locate. As far as the question, in my opinion, he should take a walk.

      @@watchsymposium I decided not to go into detail regarding my 1990 16700 GMT. Had deeply patina'd dial with snow white hands (all orginal), crystal was worn, it was all original. Given that it isn't a highly collectible watch (like 5513 for instance), I took it into RSC for service and had the dial, hands, crystal, crown all replaced, I want a functional watch, and it's like brand new again. Even sent the original Jubilee to Rolliworks for a spa day. The 16700 has such a slim profile, is so comfortable to wear. Now it's good for another 25 years. Fantastic watch and one of my favourites. But I do miss that t

    Good stuff Austin. Just for completeness the so-called T25 Tritinova were never production watches - they went from proper T tritium ending to SWISS footer luminova in A and U serial then SWISS MADE thereafter.
    The tritinova dials were all made on unusable obsolete production dial plates and retro- filled with luminova and put into worldwide RSC / Rolex service centres and used between 1999 and as late as 2006 on the rarer stuff like say a 16760 or 14270. Rgds P

      Thank you, and I hope it comes through for you. I'd love to see you review it on your channel.
      Now, I've watched enough of your videos to know you like watches with a date, so I'm surprised you're going no-date. But the clean aesthetic of the dial and lack of the cyclops magnifier is worth the sacrifice, in my opinion.

    I’m selling my 1994 16700 which is completely original and unpolished. For sale by Kibble Watches in Clerkenwell in the next couple of weeks.
    It’s a very good watch with a lovely patina to the bezel.
    A better condition watch than the one you’re considering buying.

    Great TH-cam channel!!! I have a vintage 6694 linen dial as my first Rolex . Love the pre ceramic GMT . Would love to own a faded used GMT with the character . I found one in NYC but wanted 15500 which I found expensive. For how tiered it look . Is that about what the market GMT are selling ? Big fan keep up the great work & I look up you email to send you a picture of theGMT I was talking about

  • @nr1416
    @nr1416 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Ok got it for buying vintage. If something looks off, its not original. And if something looks too perfect, then it's probably not original as well.
    You have to buy neo vintage and vintage with 1 eye closed. As long as everything is a original Rolex part on the watch then don't over think too many factors.

  • @amickinflorida9008
    @amickinflorida9008 ปีที่แล้ว

    Rolex will now do a historically sensitive service. You can ask them not to polish, and not to change the hands or dial. But what happened to me is they will call you and tell you that while they were disassembling your watch they broke the hands or dial and that now it Has to have new. When this happened to The hands of a sub I was servicing I had them put on a New old stock tritium hour hand that was unfortunately still glowing a little. The point is you have to work with them now and in general they’ll do what you ask where as in the past they would not.

    • @watchsymposium
      @watchsymposium  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You got very lucky - you really can't count on new old stock tritium parts being available. Here in Japan, they simply don't have tritium parts in stock (and Rolex doesn't make them anymore), so you'll be getting luminova parts.
