- Over time most steam mops will stop steaming. The failure is often related to hard water deposits collecting inside the steam unit. I'll show you the easiest method to unclog your Shark (or any other) steam mop and get the steam billowing out quick!

Thank u so much for ur fix tip. Used vinegar (mixed with plain warer)..scared of CLR and Lime Away. Vinegar worked great in just a couple minutes. GREAT FIX..thanks again!
Excellent! Good to know vinegar can work as well!
I'm on it right now with the vinegar
.....thanks
Excellent. I used cleaning vinegar instead. Worked like a charm. Thanks
Perfect!
It's common for the pump to have seized up, too (indicated by no noise from a usually 'buzzy' steam mop, and no steam output at all but the mop body still getting warm where the heater is). For that, the pump needs to be very carefully dismantled and cleaned. This is usually some kind of crappy solenoid 'buzzer' pump. BigClive has a good video for taking it apart. This problem is common if the steam mop has not been used for many months. It is the same situation with fog machines which work similarly.
Thanks for the info! Big Clive is awesome!
Shane, this is a great video. It's easy to watch and to the point. My Shark steam mop (the same model, even) is doing what yours did. I am going to give this trick a go today, hoping for the best. It pains me to send the unit to a landfill, where it would sit forever and ever.
Thanks you! I feel the same way and I hope it works out for you as well. I hate throwing things away unnecessarily.
Great tip! I have a Sparkle steam mop from "New Donaine" that we bought several years ago. Trying to use it tonight, we got no steam after multiple tries with just water. Put CLR in it and ran the pump. Soon after I started getting CLR steam and turned it off. I let it sit for a few hours, rinsed and ran the unit.
Steams great now. Thanks!
Excellent!
Brilliant it worked. Thanks. Used 30 seconds version product instead. Happy little steamer again.
Great to hear!
Thanks....you're so handy!!
Awww, you're welcome!!!
Thanks a lot! I left the CLR in the machine for two days (because I forgot it in the garage). I plugged it in knocked it a couple times on the ground and yeah steam poured out again. I appreciate your help; the machine is ONLY 6 years old and works like new. 😊😊😊😊
Excellent!!!
Awesome! Fixed!
It's nice when it works out so easy!
Thank you for the tips it worked ❤
You're very welcome, thanks for watching!
Hey, I love my steam mop but it did the same thing. I tried clr however I had it dripping brown liquid. Anybody know if that is crud build up or something else?
Sure as molasses, your recommended hack worked. A couple of hours wasn't enough, the patient 24 hrs soak w/the C.L.R .solution did the trick. Thanks for helping another common pleb fix a vexing issue, mate.
Happy to help!
Thankyou for this video I was gifted a used steam mop and it's not working so going to try the clr
Excellent! Good luck!
Very Good!... #25 {4-18-2024}
why doesn't the green power button light up! it heats up but doesn't steam
How do you keep it from burning waffle tracks in your carpet? Looks like it gets really hot.
Hahaha! Well, I found out if you fill it with cold water instead of hot water it's just barely cool enough to not melt the carpet. I'm still trying to figure out why it makes the carpet smell like mildew... 🤣🤣
I don't think this is good for carpets. That "mildew smell" is probably from the activated microbes (you've given them warm water) in your carpet's jute backing. "... jute has a tendency to absorb moisture easily, which can lead to the growth of mold and mildew if exposed to excessive dampness".
What were the ominous drops from? My Hoover drips from the side out of this little rubber weep hole. Can’t find anything on it
It seemed to me like it was just a tiny bit getting past the clog
@Shane’s Getting Handy, my problem is I can’t adjust the flow of steam. My steam mop is stuck on “low” and does produce low steam. The medium and high settings will not longer press/work. Any advice?
Unfortunately I have not seen this type of failure yet. You might need to disassemble it and check the buttons and associated electronics.
@@shanesgettinghandy Thanks for responding. I LOVE my steam mop. My family told me I simply wore it out! 😂
Couldn't you use vinegar instead of CLR? Less noxious :)
I haven’t personally tried it, but it should work, although it might need to sit longer.
I have no steam coming out when plugged up its full of my cleaning solution. Warm on side to touch. Just have a vibrating feeling to it that's all. What can i do
Try using the CLR like I showed in the video, I hope it works for you!
Same here, did you solve it somehow?
